we read about diversity in India. We learnt that each one of us is unique with specific qualities that make us different from one another. These differences re because of diversity. Though we know diversity enriches the culture of a country, sometimes we form certain attitudes and opinions that are a cause of concern. Let us tudy about these in detail.

DISCRIMINATION DISCRIMINATION iversity exists because of historical and geographical factors. However, diversity is not always appreciated. Often, we find people being discriminated against on the basis of their skin colour , race, caste, language, religion or gender.

Prejudice The practice of making such distinctions and treating a person or a group of people less fairly than the other is known as discrimination.Discrimination emerges due to prejudices and the formation of stereotypes among people and their way of thinking.

What is Prejudice Prejudice is an unreasonable opinion about a person which is formed without much thought or knowledge. It is based on false opinions and beliefs that exist in people's minds. Prejudice results in dislike or unfair behaviour towards others based on such opinion. It limits our thinking and causes disharmony among people.

We must learn to accept and embrace diversity to reduce prejudice in society. We can overcome prejudice by understanding people before forming an opinion about them. Learning more about different cultures, languages us and religions and being tolerant can help us overcome prejudice. Most importantly, we must
