Problem solving and Ideation - Dr. Meera C. Singh Professor Sinhgad College of Pharmacy, Vadgaon , Pune 41

Ideation Ideation is the creative process of generating, developing, and communicating new ideas. It is an essential part of the design thinking process and involves brainstorming and conceptualizing new solutions to problems or opportunities. Ideation can be done individually or in groups and often involves a variety of techniques and tools to stimulate creative thinking and innovation. Key Components of Ideation: 1.Problem Identification: Clearly defining the problem or opportunity that needs to be addressed. Understanding the needs, challenges, and goals associated with the problem. 2.Brainstorming: Generating a wide range of ideas without judgment or evaluation. Encouraging free thinking and creativity to explore different possibilities. Using techniques such as mind mapping, sketching, brain storming etc .

Key Components of Ideation : cont --- 3 Concept Development: Refining and expanding on the initial ideas. Combining and modifying ideas to create more robust and feasible concepts. Assessing the potential impact and feasibility of each idea. 4 Evaluation and Selection: Evaluating the generated ideas based on criteria such as feasibility, desirability, and viability. Selecting the most promising ideas to develop further. Using methods such as voting, scoring, or discussion to prioritize ideas.

5 Prototyping and Testing: Creating prototypes or models of the selected ideas to test their viability. Gathering feedback from stakeholders and users to refine and improve the concepts. Repeating on the ideas based on the feedback received. Techniques for Ideation: 1 Brainstorming Sessions: Group sessions where participants share ideas freely without criticism. Encouraging wild and unconventional ideas. 2 Mind Mapping: Visualizing ideas and their connections in a diagram. Using a central idea and branching out with related concepts. 3 SCAMPER: A checklist technique that stands for Substitute, Combine, Adapt, Modify, Put to another use, Eliminate, and Reverse. Using these prompts to think about how to innovate or improve existing ideas. Key Components of Ideation : cont ---

Techniques for Ideation : cont - 4 Role Playing: Acting out scenarios to understand different perspectives and generate ideas. Putting oneself in the shoes of different stakeholders or users. 5 Brainwriting : Writing down ideas individually before sharing them with the group. Allowing for more thoughtful and diverse contributions. 6 Reverse Thinking: Thinking about the opposite of the problem or reversing assumptions. Challenging the status quo to discover new solutions.

Developing Business Prototypes "Developing Business Prototypes" typically refers to creating a preliminary model of a new business idea or product to test and validate its viability. This process allows businesses to refine their concepts based on feedback and make necessary adjustments before full-scale production or launch. Prototyping is an essential step in the innovation process, helping businesses minimize risks and increase the likelihood of success by validating their ideas before committing significant resources to full-scale production. Steps in creating business prototypes: Conceptualization, design, testing, and repetition/ reiterations . Douglas Aircraft
