Prophet Lut and the People of Sodom- Islam's View on Sexuality

This is a presentation for kids about the story of Prophet Lut and the People of Sodom. His people invented the act of homosexualtity and were punished for their sins.

2. Lut’s people & Location L u t’s relationship to P r ophet Ibraheem Prophet Lut & Prophet Ibraheem   During this time, Prophet Ibrahim was also alive. S ome narrations say that he was the uncle of P. Lut . Ibrahim was a very old man and his son Ishaq had not been born yet. He didn’t think he was going to have any children because of his age and the age of his wife. Prophet Lut was sent to a place called Sodom (Sodom and Gommorah ) which is in current day Jordan, on the edge of the Dead Sea Sodom

3. One day, 3 handsome men came to P. Ibraheem’s home His wife was listening and she was so surprised because of their old age, but the Angels told her - Allah can do anything and you will have a son named Ishaq. We are the Angels of Allah - here to tell you that you are going to have a child قَالَتْ يَـٰوَيْلَتَىٰٓ ءَأَلِدُ وَأَنَا۠ عَجُوزٌۭ وَهَـٰذَا بَعْلِى شَيْخًا ۖ إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَشَىْءٌ عَجِيبٌۭ We are on our way to destroy the people of Lut . وَلَقَدْ جَآءَتْ رُسُلُنَآ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ بِٱلْبُشْرَىٰ قَالُوا۟ لَا تَخَفْ إِنَّآ أُرْسِلْنَآ إِلَىٰ قَوْمِ لُوطٍۢ

4. Propeht Ibrahim was very soft hearted. He asked Allah to please give Lu t’s people more chances, but Allah told him that their chances were up and their punishment was going to come and would not be stopped. يَـٰٓإِبْرَٰهِيمُ أَعْرِضْ عَنْ هَـٰذَآ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ قَدْ جَآءَ أَمْرُ رَبِّكَ ۖ وَإِنَّهُمْ ءَاتِيهِمْ عَذَابٌ غَيْرُ مَرْدُودٍۢ Why were the Angels sent to destroy Lut’s people? What is their story? What is their sin? فَ لَمَّا ذَهَبَ عَنْ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ ٱلرَّوْعُ وَجَآءَتْهُ ٱلْبُشْرَىٰ يُجَـٰدِلُنَا فِى قَوْمِ لُوطٍ

5. Allah put certain desires in us , but he gave us halal ways to fulfill them. Lut’s people did not want the halal, natural way… they invented the sin of homosexuality, and they were proud of it and spread it in their community. The men refused to marry the women of the community, and instead had relationships among one another. وَلُوطًا إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِۦٓ أَتَأْتُونَ ٱلْفَـٰحِشَةَ مَا سَبَقَكُم بِهَا مِنْ أَحَدٍۢ مِّنَ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ إ نَّكُمْ لَتَأْتُونَ ٱلرِّجَالَ شَهْوَةًۭ مِّن دُونِ ٱلنِّسَآءِ ۚ بَلْ أَنتُمْ قَوْمٌۭ مُّسْرِفُونَ وَمَا كَانَ جَوَابَ قَوْمِهِۦٓ إِلَّآ أَن قَالُوٓا۟ أَخْرِجُوهُم مِّن قَرْيَتِكُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ أُنَاسٌۭ يَتَطَهَّرُونَ Prophet Lut was sent to guide his people . They were the most corrupt people of the time. They invented a sin that nobody had committed before - a sin that goes against human nature. They warned Lut that if he didn’t stop preaching to them, they would kick him out of the city.

6. Prophet Lut prepared a meal for them. The men would not touch the food (because they were Angels and Angels do not eat). Suddenly the men of the community came rushing to Lut’s home and started banging on his door and Lut yelled for them to come out. P. Lut was so embarrassed. He yelled out to his people: “Do not embarrass me in front of my guests. Isn’t there a single righteous man among you??” وَجَآءَهُۥ قَوْمُهُۥ يُهْرَعُونَ إِلَيْهِ وَمِن قَبْلُ كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ ۚ قَالَ يَـٰقَوْمِ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ بَنَاتِى هُنَّ أَطْهَرُ لَكُمْ ۖ فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَلَا تُخْزُونِ فِى ضَيْفِىٓ ۖ أَلَيْسَ مِنكُمْ رَجُلٌۭ رَّشِيدٌۭ Prophet L ut was home one day when some handsome young men came to visit the city of Sodom. Lut’s daughters saw them and ran to tell their father. Lut was so worried that the people of the community would see them and come attack them in their perverted ways. He quickly invited them to his home and tried to hide them from the public, but his evil wife went and told them about the handsome guests.

7. The men told Lut that they were Angels of Allah in disguise and not to worry- his community would not be able to hurt them . They had come to let P. Lut know that Allah’s punishment was coming to his people. The punishment was going to come the next morning. Lut and his family were ordered to leave the city before morning came. However, his wife would not be allowed to escape with them because she was an evil woman who encouraged the homosexual actions of the men of the city. قَالُوا۟ يَـٰلُوطُ إِنَّا رُسُلُ رَبِّكَ لَن يَصِلُوٓا۟ إِلَيْكَ ۖ فَأَسْرِ بِأَهْلِكَ بِقِطْعٍۢ مِّنَ ٱلَّيْلِ وَلَا يَلْتَفِتْ مِنكُمْ أَحَدٌ إِلَّا ٱمْرَأَتَكَ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ مُصِيبُهَا مَآ أَصَابَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّ مَوْعِدَهُمُ ٱلصُّبْحُ ۚ أَلَيْسَ ٱلصُّبْحُ بِقَرِيبٍۢ The handsome men spoke up :

8. The Punishment The next morning, the city of Sodom shook violently. Angel Jibreel lifted the entire city with the tip of his wing and flipped it upside down! Then Allah sent clay stones from the sky that rained down and buried whatever was left behind. ف لَمَّا جَآءَ أَمْرُنَا جَعَلْنَا عَـٰلِيَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهَا حِجَارَةًۭ مِّن سِجِّيلٍۢ مَّنضُودٍۢ In the place of the city of Sodom is the Dead Sea, a body of water that is so salty that no living creature can live inside of it. This is the place of a people that were cursed by Allah and Prophet Muhammad (S) advised us not to visit such places, except to reflect on the lessons learned.

9. Islam’s view on Homosexuality 1 . Any sexual relationships outside of those sanctioned by the Qur’an and Sunnah between a man and woman is haram. Allah created us and our bodies and He knows which relationships are beneficial and which are harmful to us and the society. 2 . Desires are not sinful as long as they are not acted upon, and people should not be identified with or ostracized because of their desires. 3 . Same-sex actions are haram and are serious sins , but they do not take the sinner out of the fold of Islam. (As long as they do not claim that what is haram is halal and vice versa.) 4 . We should show all people the beauty of the Prophetic way. We do not celebrate or support what Allah has prohibited, nor do we mistreat those who do not follow the correct teachings. 5 . The story of Prophet Lut is mentioned in all the Heavenly Books and homosexuality is not permissible in any of them .
