Any pain, penalty, suffering, or  confinement  inflicted upon a person by the authority of the law and the judgment and sentence of a court, for some crime or offense committed by him, or for his omission of a duty enjoined by law is punishment. Defination of Punishment

Kinds of Punishment Death punishment. Life imprisonment. Rigorous imprisonment. Simple imprisonment. Forfeiture of property. Fine.

Death punishment D eath penalty , also known as the , Capital punishment is a government sanctioned practice whereby a person is put to  death  by the state as a  punishment  for a crime.

cases when death punishment is given :- 1. Murder. 2.Waging war against state. 3.Abetting mutiny. 4.Dacoity with murder. 5.Giving false evidence by which innocent dies.

Life Imprisonment It means that offender shall be convicted for his entire life. But looking at the good behaviour of the prisoner the state govt. reduced this to 14 years.

Imprisonment Rigorous Rigorous Imprisonment by interpretation means hard labour . Hard labour is not defined either in the Indian Penal Code, or in the Jail Manuals . Simple A person sentenced to  simple imprisonment  will have to do  simple  works in the prison .

Forfeiture of property This type of punishment is removed except in the following cases:- To make robbery in foreign country and acquire property. When public servant improperly purchases property which is prohibited.

Fine Fine means penalty charged for not abiding by the law. Fine may be imposed but it should not be excessive. Also, in some cases punishment and fine both can be made.
