Location of Indian Desert That Desert in India lies in north-western part Lies between Aravali hills to the east and boundary of Pakistan in the West It extends from Rann of Kutch of Southwest to the border of Haryana in North

Physical Features Vast, sandy and Rocky area covered with Sand dunes Sand dunes are low hills of sand that are formed by strong winds Winds deposit sand when they come across an obstruction More winds may lift the sand and carry it away , thus causing sand dunes to shift . Luni River is the only River in Thar Desert

Climate Thar desert has an extreme climate It is very hot in summer and very cold in winters In winters, days are pleasant but the nights are very cold In summers , days are very hot and nights are cool Hot dry winds that blow during the day time is called as Loo Very little rainfall

Natural Vegetation Bushy and Thorny Shrubs grow here Trees like Keekar , Babul,Khejri are common Most trees have long roots which go deep down in search of water Date palms are also found around oases Cactus plant is especially adapted to desert climate

Crops Wheat, pulses, bajra , Maize are the food crops grown over large area Cotton also grows here The Indira Gandhi canal and River Stalin provides a good source of irrigation facility to make farming possible in Rajasthan

Life in the Desert Communities like Banjaras live here and are known for making handicrafts Other tribes include Bhils , Minas and Sahariyas People rear sheep, goat and camel Camel is used for transportation purposes
