PURUSHARTHA:GOALS OF LIFE THE WAY TO LIVE BLISSFUL LIFE GIVING LIFE A MEANING
Meaning of Purushartha Purushartha is a sanskrit word composed of two parts “ purusha ” means person and “ artha ” means purpose . Purushartha is purpose of life. By fulfilling it, man gets fulfillment for life as well as for sustains the society. “ purushartha “ means personal or human pursuit means purpose of human being. It implies our goals of life. Man is engaged in the pursuit of first three Purusharthas but pays little attention to the fourth Ultimate aim of life should be Moksha
PURPOSE OF PURUSHARTHA The purusharthas determines the values through which human actions are to be performed or to be avoided. It can be used as answers of some basic questions which are about life in general and the art of living The standard of behavior restricts human actions which are socially considered incorrect and improper. AIM of life of an individual is determined by the doctrine of Purushartha . It is extremely important that our goals of life should be very clear.
HISTORY Historically, there were three purusarthas accepted they were , dharma, kama and artha . It was called tri- varga or the three categories of human pursuit. The fourth purusartha - Mokeshga was added later. According to Hinduism, the aim of the purusathas is to ensure that people never neglect their obligatory duties and hold themselves responsible for maintaining the balance in the world.
AIMS OF HUMAN LIFE DHARMA: The truth,right way of living and moral value ARTHA:Security of having the material comfort need to live with ease,wealth and meaning of life. KARMA: Enjoyment,Sensual pleasure and happiness. MOKSHA: Liberation,Freedom from the cycle of death and rebirth and self realization and self knowledge.
DHARMA(Righteousness) Dharma (Righteousness) implies a conscientious ,orderly and holastic living. It means discharge of our duties and responsibilites . Dharma stands for moral law in society and is the basis of values It is a regulative principle with bearing on duties and rights It includes laws,conduct,virtues and right way of living. On individual level,one must know the ethical basis on which one is living with true values Being conscious in your actions, words, thoughts Having cxompassion and sensitivity to the needs of others. Fulfilment of virtue, good works,duties,and responsibilities. Dharma is right conduct as authenticated by Shruti and Smruti .

ARTHA(Wealth) Signifies the “means of life” One of the basic human dignities-to have enough assets to live on and care for your family . Worldly possessions or wealth –money, properties etc. for basic needs. Artha is pursuit of activites and mean necessary for joyous and pleasurable life. Vedanta says that Discover a way so money runs after you and not vice versa Do work that is compatible to your nature and capabilities Do work that serves society Do work you really love Greatest and best wealth is remembrance of god.
KAMA(Desire) Kama is satisfaction of desires , acquired money, getting security,use money for comforts,enjoyment,and fullfilling our duties, desires and responsibilites . Wordly sensual pleasure love,lust ,enjoyment. It relates to the pleasure which can be sensuality but is also art,love,beauty,music,fellowship and kindness –it’s brings a sense of delight to your life. The right kinds of pleasure lead you toward your Dharma and help you fulfill it with passion. Kama is good and necessary when it exists to support Dharma and becomes part of the richness of life. Excessive Kama can lead to overindulgence, addiction, sloth, greed and lust. It also lead to downfall and entry to Hell ( Bhagwad Geeta )
MOKSHA(Liberation) It stands for salvation is the ultimate end of human life. It is an ability to let go It liberates the person from wordly ties. Freedom from birth and rebirth –Ultimate attainment.( Mukti ) Knowing that the singular aim of life should be to reach God. Self-realization, Self-knowledge and Ultimate salvation. It is the experience of cosmos within one self ,flow and fusion of energies. It is the experience of union, oneness, Ekatvam with the Universe.
CONCLUSION Dharma is always held higher than Artha and Kama. In fact, Dharma is that which helps man to fulfill the obligations of Artha and Kama directed to the ultimate end of Moksha . Moksha can be attained through Dharma, once it has been cultivated through Artha and Kama. Know who u are and who is god Know that the real aim of life is to reach god Know that the voyage should be avoided with Dharma and Bhakti
