Sugar is soluble in water. Soluble ( pwede malanay o matunaw )

Plastics is insoluble in water. Insoluble (dili malanay, dili matunaw)

Where did the sugar and salt disappear to? : It becomes part of the water in glass

What are they called? Soluble Based on the song, what doesn’t dissolve and stays apart? Insoluble

Mixture Did it dissolve? Is the mixture a solution? Is the substance that was mixed with water soluble or insoluble? Yes No Yes No Flour and water           Sugar and water           ground coffee & water           Sand and water

Do all of the substances that were mixed with water dissolve? Ans. Not all substances were dissolved in water. What you call the substances that dissolve? Soluble substance What do you call the substances that do not dissolve? Insoluble substance Substances that can be dissolved are soluble. Substances that cannot be dissolved are insoluble.

Do all substances dissolve in water? Ans: No, only soluble substances dissolve in water. What do you call substances that do not dissolve? Ans: Insoluble substances.

When sugar is mixed with water, the sugar seems to disappear into the water. This is a process called dissolution . The sugar did not really disappear. Its molecules dissolved into the water that it can no longer be seen. The same happens with salt. You know that sugar and salt are still there because you can taste it, even though you cannot see it. The salt and sugar were dissolved completely into the water. This clear mixture is called solution. The sugar, salt and coffee are examples of solute . While the dissolving medium (ex. water ) is called solvent .

Fill in the missing words. Choose the correct words from below: Soluble dissolve insoluble solute solvent Salt can ________________ in water, therefore salt is the ________________. Water is the __________________. We say that salt is the __________________in water. When something does not dissolve in water we say it is __________________ in water.

Evaluation A. Complete the following sentences by writing soluble or insoluble on the blanks. 1. Substances that do not form solutions when they are mixed with water are called __________substances. 2. Substances that form solutions when they are mixed with water are called __________substances.
