5. Matthew 7
24–25 “These words I speak to you are notincidental
additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your
standard of living. They are foundationalwords, words to build
a life on. If you work these words into your life, you are like a
smartcarpenter who built his house on solid rock. Rain poured
down, the river flooded, a tornado hit—but nothing moved
that house. It was fixed to the rock.
26–27 “But if you just use my words in Bible studies and don’t
work them into your life, you are like a stupidcarpenter who
built his house on the sandy beach. When a storm rolled in and
the waves came up, it collapsedlike a house of cards.”
28–29 When Jesus concluded his address, the crowd burst into
applause. They had never heard teaching like this. It was
apparent that he was living everything he was saying—quite a
contrast to their religion teachers! This was the best teaching
they had ever heard.

13. Religion scholar: “Teacher, what do I need to do to get
eternal life?”
Jesus:“What‟s written in God‟s Law? How do you
interpret it?”
Religion scholar:“That you love the Lord your God with
all your passion and prayer and muscle and intelligence—
and that you love your neighbor as well as you do
yourself.”
Jesus: “Good answer! Do it and you‟ll live.”
Religion scholar: “And just how would you define
„neighbor‟?”

14. There was once a camper from thenorth-side of
town traveling to the south-side. On the way she
was attacked by robbers. They took her clothes,
beat her up, andwent off leaving her half-dead.
Luckily, herPastor was on her way down the same
road, but when she saw her she angled across to
the other side.
Then herSunday SchoolTeacher showed up; she
also avoided the injured camper.

15. A Samaritan campertraveling the road came upon her.
When she saw the camper‟s condition, her heart went
out to her.
She gave her first aid, disinfecting and bandaging her
wounds. Then she lifted her onto her scooter, and
walked besideher to thenurse‟s quarters, and made her
comfortable.
In the morning she took out two one hundred dollar
bills and gave them to the camp nurse, saying, „Take
good care of her. If it costs any more, put it on my
canteencard, I‟ll pay you on my way back.‟

became a neighbor to the woman attacked by
robbers?”
Religion scholar:“The one who treated her
kindly.”
Jesus:“Go and do the same.”

“Each of you has received a gift
from God to use to serve others.”

God has given each of you a gift from his great
variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve
one another…Then everything you do will bring

remain in you.
