Introduction to
Rainwater Harvesting
Introduction to
Rainwater Harvesting
Rainwater harvesting is a technology used for
collecting and storing rainwater from rooftops, the land
surface or rock catchments using simple techniques
such as jars and pots as well as more complex
techniques such as underground check dams. Another
definition of rainwater harvesting is the activity of
collecting rainwater locally and storing it through
various technologies, for future use, to meet the
demands of human consumption.

The flood disaster that hit Bali from September 9,
2025 to September 10, 2025. Rainfall was
recorded at 245.75 millimeters, causing flooding
that submerged the underpass at the Dewa Ruci
intersection on Jalan Bypass Ngurah Rai. The
Dewa Ruci intersection was submerged up to 4.5
meters.
According to one driver, the cause of the
flooding was high water levels and inadequate
drainage channels in the underpass.

Potential
Disadvantage Unreliable rainfall : The amount of water
collected depends on rainfall patterns.
Initial cost : The setup can have high initial costs
due to equipment and installation.
Maintenance : Systems require regular
maintenance and cleaning to operate effectively.
Space : Storage tanks can take up a significant
amount of space.
