Rajasthan education

This slide includes the Rajasthan's economy in terms of education and how this sector is impacting Real Estate in that state.

1. RAJASTHAN EDUCATION SECTOR There are 9 deemed universities in Rajasthan. There are over 1032 colleges, 51525 primary schools, 11606 secondary schools and 6010 senior secondary schools. Rajasthan’s literacy rate according to 2011 census was 67.06%, male and female literacy rates being 80.51% and 52.66% respectively. Although the female literacy rate has improved over the last decade, it lags behind the national average of 65.46%, whereas the male literacy is close the national average of 82.14%. Over 1990s and 2000s enrollment ratio have been increasing but female enrollment ratios still need to catch up. There are high dropout ratios in the state only 60% of who enroll in class 1 are able to reach class 8.   State Government is aggressively pursuing a policy to achieve the goal of universalization of elementary education. It has spent over 4.6% SDP on education. State Literacy Mission Authority encourages PPP(Public Private Partnership) to strengthen the infrastructure of CECs (Continuing Education Centre). In the state budget of 2011 -12 a sizeable amount of Rs 1707.72 Crores has been allocated to education sector.

2. Education Infrastructure Key Indicators The break-up of number of universities in the state on the basis of type of University is shown alongside. Rajasthan ranks 5th highest among all states in India on total of number of Universities with 43 Universities. The State also ranks 1st for number of Private Universities with 17 Universities. RAJ has 6.9% of all Universities in the country.

3. Universities by Type: There are a total of 621 universities (as of 2010-11) across the country, with state public universities constituting the highest share (45.2%). The top five states with the highest number of universities include Tamil Nadu (59, 9.5%of total in India), Uttar Pradesh (56, 9.0%), Andhra Pradesh (46, 7.4%), Maharashtra (44, 7.1%), and Rajasthan (43,6.9%) .   Universities by Type :- Rajasthan This figure reflects the break-up of number of universities in Rajasthan on the basis of specialization. Rajasthan ranks 6 th highest on number of General Universities with 19 universities. The state has no Agricultural or law universities.

4. Universities by Specialization-Rajasthan Rajasthan with 2435 colleges has a share of 7.38% of all colleges in India and ranks 5 in terms of total colleges in any state in India. In terms of access, Rajasthan has a higher concentration of 29 colleges per lakh population as compared to the all India average of 23 colleges per lakh population. In terms of average enrollment per college, Rajasthan (725) is higher than the all India average of 700. Total enrollment of students in regular mode in higher education institutes in Rajasthan is around 14.62 lakhs . Out of the total colleges in the state , 97% are affiliated to Universities and the remaining are constituent/university colleges, PG/off campus or recognized centres by the Universities. In terms of management , Rajasthan colleges are dominated by the Private Unaided colleges, forming 70.5% of all colleges in the state, followed by 24.1% owned by government and 5.3% that are Private aided.

Management of colleges-Rajasthan Stand-alone Institutions: In Rajasthan , there are 552 such stand-alone institutions and the total enrolment in these is estimated to be around 1.11 lakhs .     Student Enrolment   By Level: The state-wise Enrolment through Regular Mode at various levels is 14.62 Lakhs . Break-up across various levels and split by gender is given in the figure / table below. As can be inferred, the highest share of enrolment (87.3%) is at under-graduate level, followed by post-graduate (8.9%) and Diploma (2.5%) with all other levels forming only 1.2%. As can be seen from table 3 above, maximum enrolment share (59.6%) is in Government colleges in the state.

GENDER for All, SC & ST – RAJASTHAN By Gender: In terms of gender, enrolment is skewed as 60.9% comprises males, while only 39.1% of the enrolment is females, indicating significant gender disparity. The Gender for males (20.9) is higher than Gender for females (15.2), resulting in the gender parity index of just 0.72 (which is lesser than 0.86 at all-India level). In terms of overall Gender , Rajasthan ranks 9th among all major states in India.   By Social Group: The Gender of SCs (11.2) and STs (13) is lower than the state Gender of 18.2. As can be seen from Table on Gender and Social representation, the share of student enrolment across all backward groups in Rajasthan is lesser than their proportionate share in population.

9. Faculty and Staff Key Faculty & Staff Indicators – RAJASTHAN The PTR of colleges in Rajasthan at 22 students per teacher is worse than the all India average of 15.1. Total number of teaching staff and non-teaching staff in all colleges in RAJ is estimated to be 0.80 lakhs and 0.62 lakhs , respectively (extrapolating data available for 29.3% colleges in state). However, given the large number of colleges in the state, the number of teachers per college (32.9) and non-teaching staff per college (25.7) are lesser than the corresponding all–India levels as shown in table.

Post Wise Share of teaching staff- Rajasthan In terms of the post-wise share of teaching staff, the figure 6 provides the break-up in the state. 77% of the teaching posts are at level of Lecturer/ Assistant professor followed by 12% of Professors & Equivalent 7% of Readers/ Associate Professors and 4% are temporary staff. In terms of representation of various social groups and gender in the teaching and non-teaching staff, Table below provides the relative comparison with the state population. It reveals that females are significantly under-represented among the faculty and staff in higher education institutes as compared to males. In case of social groups also, all the groups shown in the table show a deficit in terms of representation in both faculty and staff in higher educational institutions as compared to their share of population in the state. 11. The Status of Literacy and Education in India and Rajasthan Education and Literacy are the two most important factors affecting the progress of a nation and State. It is such an important indicator that it has been agreed upon and focused by a collective of nations as the second most important Millennium Development Goal out of the eight goals related to poverty, health, women empowerment, environment sustainability and Global Partnership for Development. Literacy rate in Census 2011 has been computed as the number of persons literate 7 and above years of age. According to the provisional results of Census 2011, the literacy rate of India stands at 74.04 percent. Amongst all the States, it is highest in case of Kerala (93.91 percent) and lowest in case of Bihar (63.82 percent). The literacy rate of Rajasthan is 67.06 percent. The total, male and female literacy of Rajasthan are lower than the national average.

17. Amity University – Jaipur, Rajasthan Amity University, Rajasthan (AUR) has been established by the Amity University Rajasthan, Jaipur Act, 2008. Amity offers Law courses and agricultural courses as compared to other universities in Jaipur. There are few colleges in jaipur which offers agricultural and law courses. As an investor point of few It’s better to invest in law and agricultural college which will effect in less opportunity cost. As the cost of an alternative that must be forgone in order to pursue a certain action is opportunity cost.

18. . Kota as Education City Kota, the South-Eastern part of Rajasthan has become an hub of education. Widely popular as Education City of India . Every year a large number of students in Kota aspire for lucrative options to become doctors, engineers, lawyers, chartered accountants, and the like. Kota have some of the most experienced and prestigious educational institutes that has challenged modern conventions in education. 21. EDUCATION – A TALE OF KOTA Out of the total number of students who made it to the IITs last year, nearly 2,500 of the selected ones were coached in Kota, which makes the success rate of Kota a double-digit 10% as against the national success rate of just about 3 % It brought the township to a grinding halt, with no other employment alternatives as Kota in Rajasthan was neither a manufacturing hub, nor a tourist destination. Necessity, as they say is the mother of invention and some enterprising locals decided that teaching, specifically coaching for competitive exams like IIT could be a good source of earning a living. One of them was V K Bansal , an engineer, who was also working at J K Synthetics but around the same time had been diagnosed with muscular dystrophy, a disease that effected his physical movement, but it did not impede the sharpness of his mind. With limited options to choose from, he took up teaching, at the residential colony that housed all JK employees. It was a small beginning, but in no time the success stories of students under his tutelage created the buzz.
