What is Rmsa education?
The Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) is a flagship scheme of the
Government of India, to enhance access to secondary education and improve its
quality. Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) aims to increase the
enrolment rate by providing a secondary school within reasonable distance of
every home

To ensure that no child is deprived of secondary
education of satisfactory quality due to many
reasons such as gender, socio-economic
conditions, disability, or any other barriers.
To emphasize quality while imparting Secondary
Education and to provide complete school access
for secondary education
The scheme of RMSA was started in Punjab in
the year 2009-10
As per the norms of the scheme, a secondary
school has to be provided within every 5km
radius.
RMSA is a program for the universalization of
secondary education. The objective of the scheme is

Integrated RMSA encompasses schemes as follows:

There should be no high or senior secondary school within the
radius of 5 K.M.
The number of students to be admitted in 9th & 10th class should
be at least 70.
Relaxation in the above norms can be provided in hilly areas and
areas with difficult circumstances.
4 acres land for opening of High school at village level and 2 Acres
land for opening of High school in the Cities should be available.
ACCESS: Upgradation of Schools from Middle to High
318 Schools have been upgraded since 2009 to2017-18

Quality Interventions
School grant of Rs. 50,000/- per school per annum
for repair
Excursion 200 Rs. Per students for class 9th & 10th
Science Exhibition: Rs.1 lakh per district
Remedial teaching: Rs.500/- per student for slow
Lerner.
Maths Kit for selected Rs.2000 per school
Science Kits for selected Rs.2200 per schools
District Level Quiz competition: Rs.50,000 per
district.
Kala Utsav: Lump-sum amount of Rs. 11 lakhs for
students of 9th to 12 class

Equity interventions
Karate Training/Self Defence Rs per Girls & Co-ed school for
coverage of 9th and 10th class girl students.
Motivational camps for Girl 2800 per girls and co-ed school
Sanitary Napkin project/ Incinerator: Girls Hostels and girls
schools.

Vocational Education for Skill Development
Vocational Education under NSQF Project (RMSA) project is operational in 780 senior
secondary schools.
This program is quite useful to enhance the employability of young students. Training
Delivery in these schools has been outsourced to NSDC.

Inclusive Education for disabled at Secondary Stage
(IEDSS)
The scheme covers special children (disabled children) studying in classes 9th to
12th in govt and govt. aided schools. The scheme entails:
Student-oriented components include medical and educational assessment, books
and stationery, uniforms, reader allowance, stipend for girls, assistive devices,
therapeutic services, teaching-learning materials, etc.
Other components such as the appointment of special education teachers, teacher
training, the orientation of school administrators, the establishment of resource
rooms, etc.

Leprosy Cured
Hearing Impairment
Loco motor Disabilities
Mental Retardation
Mental Illness
Autism
Cerebral palsy
Speech impairment
Learning Disabilities, etc.

Girls Hostel
To reduce the gender gap and promote the education of girls 21 Girls Hostels have opened
in Educationally Backward Blocks. 18 Girls Hostels are functioning with a total strength 773
girls students
This is the scheme for imparting computer education in State Govt. Schools.
3566 Secondary/Senior Secondary schools have been covered under this scheme.
Computer labs have been established in all the schools wherein computers, UPS, Printers,
and Internet connections have been provided.
All the students of classed 9th to 12th are getting the benefit of the scheme.
