INTRODUCTION The standard of english is going down day by day as we examine the students of the present day. Every body is busy in cramming certain things and that too just for passing the examination. They are lacking in the fundamentals of the language which are the basis of the language learning.
PROCEDURE FOR REMEDIAL TEACHING: I.K. DEVICE has suggested four steps- Planning,organising,leading and evaluating. FIRST STEP: To identify poor students in English subject by using achievement test,school marks,personal observation of the teacher and interview techqnique .
SECOND STEP: A diagnostic test in English related to specific area like pronunciation,spellings,reading,gra mmar and comprehension etc,.. Is administered to locate the learning difficulties and its causes. THIRD STEP: Here remedial instructions are top be prepared for remedial teaching. FOURTH STEP : An apprapriate teaching is used for remedial teaching. After teaching, a test is administered to ascertain,how far learning difficulties could be removed.It may suggest about reteaching or further remediation.
FUNCTIONS OF REMEDIAL TEACHING To assist the poor students to pace with his class-room teaching. To solve the learning difficulties of the poor students. To improve and modify his instructional procedure in view of the wide coverage of human variation To avoid wastage in education process. To evolve the effective strategy of E nglish teaching
METHODS According to M.S.Sachdeva the following methods by which mistakes in the written english can be remedied: Drills of sentence pattern may be give. The teacher may take up one sentence pattern at a time and give simple repetition drill to the class. Then substitution,completion and conversation drills can be used for teaching the sentence patter. After oral practice, they shuld be given written practice. The correct sentences and corrected sentences may be written on a chart. The students should be asked to consult that chart again and again. Thus, they will be able to get rid of incorrect english .

REMEDIAL PROCEDURE Generally two processes are used for remedial purpose: Teaching process. Tutorial system and mastery learning strategies. Instructional process. Branching programming and adjustive devices. Teaching and instructional remedial processed are used for solving immediate language difficulties and problem. The ultimate objective is to develop mastery learning and to evolve effective remdial strategy of teaching or instruction.
