General Teacher General (Regular) Teacher plans, coordinates , schedules, instructional outcomes within a secure and positive classroom environment for all students including those with disabilities.
Role of General Teacher Develop and implement weekly lesson plans. Maintain and evaluate progress of all students. Communicate with students and guardians. Meet special education teachers regularly to provide information, do necessary modifications and adaption in teaching learning process. Work collaboratively with special education teachers. Learns about child interest and strengths.
Role of General Teacher Make content interesting to keep student motivated. Establish eye contact with student which helps in good classroom management Modify learning environment i.e. close proximity with teacher will help student to focus better. Coordinate with other support system i.e. counsellors, doctors, etc. Keep a check on child’s medication i.e. adverse effect on learning , for e.g child feeling sleepy- inform parents. Give the students choice to select their activities
Role of General Teacher Sensitise students about special child. Buddy system/peer tutoring can be another way of developing social skills in children with special needs. Restrict students from making hurtful remarks against each another. Explain clearly learning-disabled child- What is to be achieved? What is his/her accomplishment and areas of improvement. Avoid labelling- can adversely affect child's perception. Collaborate with family and resource teachers Encourage and motivate students with low self esteem and confidence
Role of General Teacher Be empathetic, avoid harsh comments. Do not compare performance of students. Discuss the problems of child with family. Regular teacher should not consider special children to be only resource teacher’s responsibility. Therefore from afore mentioned points it can be said that regular teacher has enormous responsibility.
Resource Teacher Resource Teacher is – Specialised teacher that focuses on helping children with physical or learning difficulties. Specialised in educating visually or audibly impaired child. Concentrate on life skills and basic academic process of mentally challenged. Work with small group of children. Work on wide range of subjects. Work on children with mild to moderate disabilities. Usually uses traditional teaching methods to cater needs of individual student . Prepares students for daily work, develop behavioral ,social and academic skills.
Role of Resource Teacher 1) Functional Assessment Continuous collaborative process, Combines observing ,meaningful questioning, listening family stories , analysing child’s skill, observing behavior in natural and different situations. 2) P reparation of teaching learning material To enhance learning skills of CWD, Develop reciprocity and cooperation, Encourage active learning, prompt feedback, Accommodate diversity of learning in students. 3) Suggesting Curricular Adaptation inclusive for e.g. Alternative teaching mode(video, audible books), On going process, Improvement based.
Role of Resource Teacher 4) Modify academic assignments Adapt teaching and evaluation which suits CWD, Test construction objective/subjective, Provide extra time to CWD, Response method [oral/written/with the help of scribe] 5) Co-teach general classroom Teach with general [regular] teacher, Helps to understand need of student closely. 6) Spot tutoring and teaching Spot tutoring is tutoring child when child is performing task during learning process. Remedial teaching is for helping child in understanding the concept in simplified manner. 7) Parental counselling Counselling child’s parent as parental support is very essential.
Role of Resource Teacher 8) Design specific teaching activities. Teaching activities as per child’s needs, Activities which helps students to learn better. 9) Prepare Individual Educational Plan. Different educational plan for every student Plan resources as per individual educational plan 10) Regular Monitoring Monitor progress of student in depth Monitor whether resources provided to child is effective and caters child’s need or not.
