Teacher A person involved in the interactive behavior with one or more students for purpose of effecting a change in those students is a teacher.

Teaching Teaching is an interactive process between teacher and students , the interaction takes place for achieving desired goal and both are benefited by this interaction.

Purposes The sole purpose of teaching is to help the learner to acquire new habits , knowledge and skills which together enable him/ hher to do something that they could not do before

Principles Prepare teaching based on students learning needs Be well prepared and organize the information (learning activities ) in a proper sequence Select those learning experiences or activities that give students opportunity to participate actively in real situation

Teachers roles Individual role:- teacher as an individual plays Personal role Teaching role

Personal role The teacher is an individual is expected to possess a dignified personality and modest behavior The teachers attitude as a person greatly influences the students success the teachers standards are the students standards . An ideal teacher should be moral, ethical , nonjudgmental and well disciplined

Personal role The teacher should admit not knowing the answer The teacher should allow the students to work out their own contribution Never make suggestions and interrupt in students thinking

Teaching role Imparting education is the major role of teacher Appropriate selection of various methods and media that stimulates the creativity and innovation of the students . Proper clarification of doubts and concerns evaluating outcomes of students.

2)Administrative role:- Administrative responsibilities like contributing as members of various committees such as curriculum committee , staff and student welfare committee are given to faculties The opinions , references and transcript preparations are done by faculties to assist the outgoing students upon the completion of their prescribed course of study.

3)Instructor role This is main role for teacher to carry out Prepares lesson plan by identifying the learning objectives ; selecting appropriate teaching learning activities based on those objectives and organizing them in a logical sequence

3)Instructor role Creates an environment that is conducive to learning Colllects the education material that are helpful for students learning and presents them effectively Presents learning experience in logical and coherent manner by using good communication skills Encourages student participation

3)Instructor role Gives accurate and relevant information on the topic Clarifies the skill competency expected from students Guides and supervises students in clinical experience Teaching which consists of a complex role involving a series of activities like :- Supplying information needed or telling them where it mat be obtained

3)Instructor role b)Explaining , clarifying, and interpretation c) Demonstrating or explaining a procedure , a process or exhibiting materials d) Serving as a resource person for group projects or to individual students e) Supervising students performance in the classroom , the laboratory and in any other setting where the student of nursing may be having learning experiences.

4)Faculty role The nursing faculty has promotional avenues as lecture , reader , professor ,vice principal , principal etc The faculty play a role as :- Counselor of students in matters academic and non academic A researcher to a greater or lesser degree A resource person to groups outside the institution

4)Faculty role cont.. d)Chairman or dean , curriculum committee , faculty of nursing , examiners local inquiry commission etc e) A representative to other agencies

5)Curriculum maker In order to carry out the role of curriculum maker the teacher has to possess the knowledge about the forces acting on the curriculum and the process itself . The teacher activities in this regard may include:- Participate in curriculum development and review procress if called upon Take part in curriculum work shops

c) Provide feedback on curriculum review d) Depending upon the individual expertise , sometimes a teacher might have to serve as the curriculum consultant outside of his/her institute

5) Facilitator Develops rapport with learner Respects his/her strengths and weakness Acts as liaison between the students and the educational administration Gives information about the existing educational resources and helps them to locate those if needed

Cont.. Helps students to adjust better by orienting them to the general policies , rules and regulation of institution and program Acts as resource person for students Facilitates students clinical experience Motivates students Keeps student up-to-date about all the relevant areas

6) Manager/ leader Arranges and organizes the classroom with adequate facilities Ensures that the audiovisual-aids are in working condition Makes the necessary adaptation in preparing the educational resources by using locally available materials when necessary

7) counselor A teacher talks to the students if they have any learning difficulties Helps the students in dealing with personal problems Act as a guide in matter of professionalism Counsels students with academic matter

8)Researcher A teacher has to act as researcher to greater or lesser degree They keep record of facts related to teaching-learning that could be directly involved in conducting the research

9) Evaluator Finds out the reason for learning difficulty Uses learning sessions conducted in various setting for ongoing evaluation

9) Evaluator cont. Gives immediate feedback on students Evaluates own teaching sessions and uses it for improvement Evaluates students achievement at end of course and helps them understand weakness and strength
