SABANGAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENT HANDBOOK Sabangan Elementary School Bonuan Gueset , Dagupan City

This handbook is prepared for the pupils of Sabangan Elementary School. We hope that this handbook will help our students understand the school policies and regulations that have been established. No set of rules can be completely comprehensive of all types of incidents that may occur. Items not specifically addressed by the rules or special circumstances may be dealt with on a case to case basis. That may include penalties greater than those prescribed. Objectives: 1. To ensure that each pupil develops proficiency in basic academic skills. 2. To ensure that each pupil develops the capacity to recognize and cope with the problems of an unknown future. 3. To ensure the development of meaningful interpersonal relationships among pupils, staff and community. 4. To ensure maximum efficiency in the allocation of human resources 5. To ensure maximum efficiency in the allocation and material resources.

ACADEMIC POLICIES *Evaluation is a daily process and one in which teachers, parents, and pupils work together cooperatively’ *There will be four (4) formal reporting periods during the school year with a report card. * There will be four (4) schedules for parent-teacher conferences during the year. Parents/guardians are encouraged to contact their child’s teacher if additional meetings are desired.

NON ACADEMIC POLICIES ATTENDANCE POLICY Regular attendance directly affects pupil’s achievement. A pupil that is absent misses class instruction, presentations, discussions, contact time with the teacher; all of which are difficult to make up . In order to encourage attendance, the following rules must be observed: 1. If a pupil is absent for five days, the parents may receive a letter of concern. 2. When a pupil is absent for ten days, the parents will receive a letter of concern and a truancy warning report may be filed. 3. A total of 10% of the number of school days absent a pupil is strongly considered for retention. 4. Continuous absence due to prolonged illness or series of medical treatments, a note from the physician maybe required. 5. Absence for school activities will not count as an absence.

6. Attendance is also required in all extra-curricular activities that are sponsored by the school. 7. A letter of excuse for absences or tardiness shall be required before a pupil is allowed to attend classes for the following day. This letter should state the dates and reasons for absence or tardiness and should be duly signed by the parents/guardian or duly authorized representative noted by the class adviser. A phone call shall not be considered as a valid replacement for this letter. 8. Unauthorized absence is a serious offense that requires the presence of the parent/s or a duly authorized guardian before a student is readmitted to class. 9. Pupils are expected to come to school before 7:30 AM and attend the flag raising ceremony at 7:45 A.M. when the first bell rings. 10. Habitual tardiness in the morning and in the afternoon shall not be allowed. Parents’ attention will be called.

Pupils are discouraged to bring items that are not academic-related such as prohibited drugs, tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, gambling paraphernalia, pornographic materials, and other similar items. Bringing of Unnecessary Items to School

Campus Cleanliness R.A 9003 Every pupil ,parent and teacher is expected to help keep the school clean and in order. 1. Dispose garbage in the trash bins. 2. Segregate paper, plastic and leaves and put them in the assigned trash bins. 3. Learn to reduce, reuse and recycle materials. 4. Burning garbage is prohibited. 5. Smoke belching vehicles are not allowed inside the school campus.

Campus security, safety and order Parents, guardians, or other authorized representatives of students are not allowed to enter and loiter on campus during regular school days, unless for an appointment with school officials.

Library A pupil should exercise utmost care for books borrowed form the library. He/She is responsible for its punctual return.

Respect and Courtesy Sabangan pupils are expected to show respect and courtesy to all members of the school community. Sabangan pupils are expected to greet all school personnel, persons of authority, and visitors.

SCHOOL FACILITIES,EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES *Damaging school property and vandalism are strictly prohibited. Any damage to school property should be reported immediately to any school authority. *Pupils are responsible for the proper care of their assigned rooms and seats. *Repairs or replacement costs for any damage done to any of the items mentioned above, whether due to mischievous acts, accidents, or improper use or handling, shall be paid for by the student who caused it.

DRESS CODE Inappropriate clothing should be avoided at all times Examples of inappropriate clothing include: 1. Brief and revealing clothing. Pupils must recognize that brief and revealing clothing are not appropriate apparel in school. Garments that are “ see through”, cut low, halter tops, spaghetti straps, or expose one’s midriff are not acceptable. Tight fitting clothing are not appropriate at school(no biker shorts, no boxer shorts, and no short shorts or skirts. 2. Sagging Pants. All pants must fit around the waist and be properly fastened. Undergarments must be visible 3. Headgear. Pupils shall not wear hats, scarves, or other headgear except for a medical or religious purpose. 4. Vulgar , offensive language. Pupils shall not wear clothing items that contain messages that are vulgar, offensive, obscene or libelous, that denigrate others; that are otherwise contrary to the school’s educational mission. 5. Clothing which is torn or has parts missing shall not be worn 6. Caps, hats, and other headgear are not to be worn in the building during the school day.

BULLYING Persistent bullying can severely inhibit a pupil’s ability to learn effectively. The negative effects of bullying can have a major impact on a person in his/her entire life. The school is committed to providing a caring, friendly and safe environment for all the children so they can learn in a relaxed and secured atmosphere. Bullying of any kind is unacceptable, if bullying does occur, all pupils should be able to tell and know that incidents will be dealt promptly.

FORMS OF BULLYING 1. Physical- Involves harmful actions against another person’s body 2. Verbal – involves speaking to a person in an unkind or hurtful way 3. Emotional- involves bahaviours that upset, exclude, or embarrass a person 4. Sexual- involves singling out a person because of gender and demonstrates unwarranted or unwelcome sexual advances. 5. Racial- involves rejection or isolation of a person because of ethnicity 6. Cyber Bullying is a form of harassment over the internet or other forms of electronic communications, including cellphones.

Child Protection Policy ( Deped Order # 40 s. 2012) SABANGAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL shall promote a zero-tolerance policy for any act of child abuse, exploitation, violence, discrimination, bullying and other forms of abuse   1. The school shall be conducive to learning and children shall have the right to education free from fear; 2. All children shall be protected from all forms of abuse and bullying to develop self esteem and self confidence 3. The school shall advocate a positive and non-violent mode of disciplining children to foster self discipline and to improve self-esteem; 4. Corporal punishment shall not be imposed on any child in school for the purpose of discipline, training or control.

5. The school head shall take steps to prevent bullying and ensure that the appropriate interventions, counseling and other services are provided for the victims of abuse, violence, exploitation, discrimination and bullying. 6. Pupils or learners shall respect the rights of others and refrain from committing acts of bullying and peer violence. 7. Parents shall be actively involved in all school activities or events that raise awareness on children’s rights, positive discipline and the prevention of bullying. 8. Visitors and Guests shall be oriented on the Child Protection Policy. 9. The school shall establish a Child Protection Committee.  

DEGREES OF DISCIPLINE Commission of any of the above prohibited acts if proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt after investigation shall be subject to the following: First Offense. Counselling and suspension for three days. Second offense. Suspension for three days which the offender shall be under probation for one month within which he must show reformation and good behavior or otherwise recommendation for expulsion shall be justified. Third Offense. Dismissal/ Non Re-admission
