Mechanical injury Injury caused by machine, fall and blows. This involves injury by fall from a bed or window, fall while standing or walking, by tangled cords or tubing, by movement of wheelchair/ stretchers/ walker or by inadequate protection while being lifted or moved. Nursing Responsibility in meeting physical safety needs Use railing or guards on windows and beds. Keep floor dry . Hold stretchers and wheelchair securely and lock the wheels Ensure regular checking of equipment for its safe and working conditions. Restrict smoking in the hospital. MS. Careful observation is necessary while applying hot application like electric pads, hot water bottle, steam inhaler etc. Careful and regular monitoring of electric connection. Keep chemical in separate cupboard, well labelled, under lock and key and out of reach of patients. Dose of various drugs should be measured accurately before administration to prevent its toxic effects. Discard drugs for which the expiry date is over. MS. Radiation equipment should be handled and operate by trained operators. Perform hand hygiene before and after care of each patient. Infected patient should be kept under isolation. Use effective techniques for disinfection and sterilization. Ensure regular and frequent cleanliness of unit or hospital with the use of disinfectant. Do damp dusting before dry dusting.
