Safety Precautions Before a Typhoon

1. Prepare an emergency kit that contains important items such as the following. First aid kit Flashlight and extra batteries A signaling devise such as whistle or bell Bottles of drinking water Ready-to-eat food Clothes for every family member A personal hygiene kit Garbage bags Duct tape Basic Utility tools Important documents such as birth certificates, passports, marriage certificates, insurance, identification cards etc. Communication devices or gadgets Emergency cash

2. Set up a plan with your family to see that Every family members stays connected just in case the whole family is not together when the flooding occurs.

3. Check the windows and roofs. Make repairs if they are broken.

4. Keep a battery- operated radio to keep yourself updated on the latest news about the typhoon.

5. Keep a list of emergency phone numbers on display.  

Safety Precautions during a Typhoon

1. Stay indoors. Cancel or postpone any travel plan.  

2. If you live on a low-lying area, be alert of your local officials’ advisory if you need to evacuate or not.  

3. Stay away from places where some hazards may happen due to electric short circuit.  

4. Boil your drinking water. Floods may have contaminated the water from your faucet.  

5. Check family members or relatives who are staying in the affected areas if they are in need of help or rescue.  

Safety Precautions after a Typhoon

1. Stay indoors until it is safe to come out.  

2. Keep away from broken electric posts 

3. Stay away from still water. It may be Electrically charged from downed power lines.  

4. Check for injured or trapped people without putting yourself in danger.  

6. Don’t drink tap water until officials say it is safe to do so. Boil your drinking water if mineral is not available.  

7. Eat only foods that are thoroughly washed and cooked well to avoid diseases like cholera, dysentery, and typhoid fever.  

8. Keep away from manholes in the street.
