SPECIMEN COLLECTION Safety precautions Put on protection gear all times. Change gloves to every patient. Wash hands often / Sanitize with 70% alcohol Ensure proper waste handling. Avoid recapping of needles Accident reports and prophylaxis. 3

Sample transportation Samples must be transported in cool boxes. Staff should be in gloves to remove samples from the cool box to the tray at the laboratory reception Carry request forms outside the cool box 6

Recommendations Collection of EID PCR samples in purple top to improve on TAT Collection of sputum genexpert samples Ensure proper packaging of samples before delivering them at the HUB. Ensure proper filling of the request form to accompany a well labelled sample 10
