Introduction Habitat of Tigers The Magnificent Indian Tigers Importance of Tigers Decline of Tigers Conservation of Tigers Associations to Protect Tigers Project Tiger We can Save the Tiger Too CONTENTS :-

INTRODUCTION The tiger, one of the most magnificent animals in the world, is also one of the most endangered. A cat of beauty, strength, and majesty, the tiger is master of all and subject to none -- except humans. Of the eight original subspecies of tigers, three have become extinct within the last 60 years.

HABITAT OF TIGERS Tigers are wild animals and they have to stay in their original habitat that are Jungels Hills Evergreen Forest

THE MAGNIFICENT INDIAN TIGERS The Indian tiger, also called as the Royal Bengal tiger, is one of the most fascinating animals found in India. The tiger is the largest living member of the cat family. The ears of tigers are black on the outside and have a prominent white spot on them.

DECLINING OF TIGERS

In India, the species stronghold, government census suggested that there may be as few as 1,350 tigers left in 2007. If the wild tiger population continues to decline at this rate, recovery may not be possible.

CONSERVATION OF TIGERS The tiger is an endangered species. Poaching for fur and body parts and destruction of habitat have simultaneously greatly reduced tiger populations in the world. At the start of the 20th century, it is estimated there were over 100,000 tigers in the world but that the population has dwindled outside of captivity to between 1,500 and 3,500

ASSOCIATIONS TO PROTECT TIGERS WWF is one example of the associations to protect tigers. These type of associations prepare the arrangement for saving tigers and prevent deforestation. Over the last 36 years, WWF has engaged with various stakeholders, including local communities, the Forest Department, other Government agencies, trying to find a common way forward to lend support to conservation of wild tigers.

To save the falling number of tigers in India, Project Tiger was started in the year 1973. Though there has been increase in the number of tigers in India but the increase does not commensurate the efforts made in this field. Some of the important Project Tiger reserves in India are the Corbett National Park, Kanha National Park, Sariska National Park, Sunderbans National Park, etc.
