INTRODUCTION School Resources means any funds, facilities or resources (including equipment and consumables, use/supply of heat, light or power) of the School.

SCHOOL PLANT Refers to everything within the school premises which include their site, buildings, equipment and all the essentials' structures and non-permanent as well as machines and laboratory equipment and others

SCHOOL PLANT MANAGEMENT Involves planning and maintaining educational facilities, which provide housing for educational activities

IMPORTANCE OF SCHOOL PLANT School plant helps improve students’ performance School plant improves attendance and reduces dropout rate It boosts teaching effectiveness. School plant improves student’s attitude to learning.

Why should a school head/principal show concern about the use of the equipment and instructional materials in his/her school?

WHY? Because it is one of his major duty as a school head and a major aspects of his being a school administrator. Should ensure that the school plant is ready for use when due and that it is correctly used for the purpose for which it is meant.

The school head can enhance the use of appropriate teaching materials by careful planning and supervision, and it involves the ff: Ascertaining that each room in the building is used to its capacity. Ensuring that assignment of space reflects the best educational use of that space.

The school head should encourage effective utilization of school materials and equipment by: Producing and giving to every teacher a list of the available special teaching equipment , materials and supplies in their respective subject areas and encouraging them to sign them out and make use them regularly.

The school head should encourage effective utilization of school materials and equipment by: Undertaking some classroom visits from time to time to see whether and how they use the available school equipment. As in the case of school buildings, the school head has to make sure that the available teaching aids in the school are optimally used to facilitates students learning.

They can supervise their students in maintaining the cleanliness. Recognize that buildings maintenance support student learning Educate students about how to treat school buildings appropriately. Communicate their expectation for buildings as they relate to enhancing student learning. Treat buildings with respect.

Promoting School Plant Culture School Culture is the major determinant of how its members in the school like teachers, staff, head teachers and students behave in that school. Their interactions in every aspects of school life, are usually based on existing acceptable standards of behavior, the values of the group members , and their beliefs and assumptions about the school and other aspects of life. All these constitute the culture of the school.

Promoting School Plant Culture Rules and regulations are formulated by the members of the school to ensure compliance with the behavioral norms. The extent to which members of the school values and take care of the school plant is determined by their beliefs about the worth and significance of the school plant.
