Questions:
Which of the following pictures show a solution?
How are you going to describe a solution?
What are the components that make up a solution?
Look at the pictures below and answer the following questions.
Let’s start…

Questions:
1.What are the differences of the solutions above?
2.Which of these pictures show a saturated and unsaturated solution?
3.How about supersaturated solution?

A solvent is a substance that dissolves the solute.
Water is the universal solvent.
A solute is a substance dissolved in a solvent.
COMPONENTS OF A SOLUTION
water
sugar

AQUEOUS SOLUTION
is a solution of any
substance in which solvent is
water.
SOLUBILITY
is an ability of the solute to
be dissolved in a solvent.
SUGAR SOLUTION
Dissolving of sugar in water

TYPES OF SOLUTIONS

1. UNSATURATED SOLUTION
Itcontainslessthanthe
maximumamountofsolute.
Itcandissolvemoresolute.
Can we dissolve any amount of solute in water?
Whatwill
happenifwekeep
onaddingmore
solutetothe
solution?

2. SATURATED SOLUTION
It contains the maximum amount of solute
dissolved by a given amount of solvent.
If you add more solute to the solvent, it will
no longer dissolve because the solution has reach
its saturation point.
SATURATION POINT

Thus becoming SUPERSATURATED.

3. SUPERSATURATED SOLUTION
Holds more solute than it normally
could in its saturated form.
Solution that is more concentrated
than a saturated solution.
Supersaturated solutions are unstable.

Let’s wrap it up…
