SDI SDI refers to tools and resources used to keep a user informed of new resources on specified topics, including the  current-awareness  services used to inform about new library collection. It is a type of current awareness service, by which specific types of users have to inform by the mechanism or program by the library the new library collection according to their needs and interest...

Foundation The concept of Selective dissemination of information was concept firstly introduced by Hans Peter Luhn  of IBM in the 1950s. The mechanized SDI system based on Luhn’s design was first implemented in 1959 at the Advanced Systems Development Division of IBM Corporation at Yorktown Heights, New York.

Definition Continue… SDI service as a manual and automated service which attempts for a personal service (CAS) selecting for each individual that are relevant to him. -- Judith Holt Connor “It is activity of supplying a clientele on a regular basis with requested, specific type of information the emphasis is on the specific.” -- Edmon Wearing.

Objective and Aims To update researchers and Specialists. To provide personalized CAS to Specialist to be informed about new collection/documents according to his/her interest. To prevent parallel execution and replicable research. To save the time of researchers /Specialists.

Difference Between CAS and SDI CAS is common to all users. The Subject coverage is the border It can be seen in all library SDI is a personalized service. The Information is to share with the specified user according to his or her need or interest. It is available in big and special libraries, R & D , and IITs libraries.

Difference Between CAS and SDI… This service can be operated without a computer. Feedback is not required in CAS. CAS is provided by circulating the current list of periodicals among all the users To aware the user about the new collection/ information SDI is a computerized service. Feedback is an important step in SDI The user/reader has received the pinpointed or refined information. We can Save the time of the user by SDI.
