Aetiology Secondary infections of septal hematoma Furuncle of nose and upper lip Acute infections (Typhoid, measles )
Clinical features Severe bilateral nasal obstruction with pain Tenderness over bridge of nose Fever with chills Frontal headache Red and swollen skin over nasal septum Congested septal mucosa Enlargement and tender of submandibular lymph node
Treatment Septal mucosa excised Suction (removal of pus and necrosed piece of cartilage) Systemic antibiotics (for atleast 10 days)
Complications Necrosis of septal cartilage Necrosis of septal flaps lead to septal perforation Meningitis Cavernous sinus thrombosis
