Proverbs 14:17
A quick-tempered
person does foolish
things,

4 Anger Types
•Sudden
•Sinful
•Stubborn
•Sanctified

1. Sudden Anger…
is to be controlled.

Proverbs 14:17
A quick-tempered
person does foolish
things,

Proverbs 15:18
A hot-tempered person
stirs up conflict,
   but the one who is
patient calms a quarrel.

Proverbs 18:13
To answer before
listening—
   that is folly and
shame.

Proverbs 19:19
A hot-tempered person
must pay the penalty;
   rescue them, and you
will have to do it again.

2. Sinful Anger…
is to be condemned.

Matthew 5:21
“You have heard that it was said
to the people long ago, ‘You shall
not murder,

and anyone who
murders will be subject to
judgment.’ But I tell you that
anyone who is angry with a brother
or sister will be subject to
judgment.

Romans 12:19
Do not take revenge, my
dear friends, but leave
room for God’s wrath,
for it is written: “It is
mine to avenge; I will
repay,” says the Lord.

5 Question Test
To determine if your anger is
sinful
1. Is it anger directed towards a person?
2. Is it anger without a justifiable cause?
3. Is it anger that seeks vengeance?
4. Is it anger that is cherished?
5. Is it anger that has an unforgiving spirit?

3. Stubborn Anger…
can be conquered.

Ephesians 4:26-27
“In your anger do not sin”:
Do not let the sun go
down while you are still
angry, and do not give
the devil a foothold.

Get rid of all bitterness,
rage and anger, brawling
and slander, along with
every form of malice.
Be kind and compassionate to
one another, forgiving each
other, just as in Christ God
forgave you..

4. Sanctified Anger…
Must be directed in
the right way for God

Mark 3:1-5
Another time Jesus went into the synagogue, and a
man with a shriveled hand was there. Some of
them were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so
they watched him closely to see if he would heal
him on the Sabbath. Jesus said to the man with
the shriveled hand, “Stand up in front of
everyone.”  Then Jesus asked them, “Which is
lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to
save life or to kill?” But they remained silent.
He looked around at them in anger and, deeply
distressed at their stubborn hearts, said to the
man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out,
and his hand was completely restored.

Romans 12:19
Do not take revenge, my
dear friends, but leave
room for God’s wrath,
for it is written: “It is
mine to avenge; I will
repay,” says the Lord.
