and57% of its lamb production.

climate and have short grasses and thorny scrubs.

In south-eastern part of country, sheep are raised for meat. It

Sheep farms
•Sheep rearing is practiced in very large farms
called sheep stations.A sheep station is divided
into a number of fields with the help of fences.
These are called paddocks.
•Workers in sheep stations are calledjackaroos.
Nutritious grasses are grown tofeed sheep.
•The jackaroosmaintain station equipment, repair
fences and gates and also do farm work.

Shearing
In spring, as the wool of the sheep grows thick,
the shearing starts. Shearing is the removal of
fleece from the body of sheep. It is done by
shearers who use electric shear machine. The
wool is cleaned, sorted, graded and packed in
bales, which are sent for sales to the market.
