Short Essay On Mother Teresa
Crafting an essay on the subject of Mother Teresa may pose a challenge due to the multifaceted
nature of her life and work. Mother Teresa was a complex and revered figure, known for her
selfless dedication to helping the destitute and her unwavering commitment to humanitarian
causes. Writing a short essay about her requires a delicate balance between capturing the essence
of her character, highlighting her significant contributions, and delving into the impact of her
actions on society.
The difficulty lies in condensing the vast array of Mother Teresa's accomplishments and virtues
into a concise piece without oversimplifying or neglecting crucial aspects. One must navigate
through the intricacies of her life, from her early years in Albania to her founding of the
Missionaries of Charity and subsequent global recognition. The challenge is to do justice to her
legacy while maintaining coherence and relevance in the limited space of a short essay.
Furthermore, addressing the various criticisms and controversies surrounding Mother Teresa adds
another layer of complexity. Acknowledging differing perspectives on her work, including
questions about the efficiency of her methods and the motivations behind her actions, requires a
nuanced approach.
In conclusion, while the task of writing a short essay on Mother Teresa is undeniably
challenging, it also presents an opportunity to explore the depth of her impact on the world.
Balancing admiration with critical analysis is key to producing a comprehensive and well-
rounded piece that pays homage to her remarkable life and legacy.

Truth and Goodness in Immanuel Kant and St. Thomas...
Immanuel Kant and St. Thomas Aquinas account for the existence of truth in sharply
contrasting ways. Kant locates all truth inside the mind, as a pure product of reason,
operating by means of rational categories. Although Kant acknowledges that all
knowledge originates in the intuition of the senses, the intelligibility of sense
experience he attributes to innateforms of apperception and to categoriesinherent to
the mind. The innate categories shape the phenomena of sensible being, and Kant
claims nothing can be known or proved about the noumena, the presumed world
external to the mind.1 Aquinas agrees that all knowledge comes through the senses,
but disagrees with Kant in arguing that categorical qualities do not originate... Show

The two views of truth have divergent consequences for ethics. Aquinas philosophy
produces a tradition of moral clarity that endures to the present, while the philosophy
of Kant leads ultimately to the cultural relativism and moral skepticism that are
widespread in the modern world.
For Immanuel Kant, truth is accessible to the mind only because it derives from
rational categories already in the mind. Although knowledge begins in the senses,
Kant claims, besides what is given to the sensuous intuition, special concepts must
yet be superadded concepts which have their origin wholly a priori in the pure
understanding, and under which every perception must be first of all subsumed and
then by their means changed into experience. 6 The sources of such synthetic a priori
concepts are categories inherent in reason, and Kant supplies a table of such
categories, including in it: Unity (measure), Plurality (magnitude), Totality (whole),
Reality, Negation, Limitation, Substance, Cause, Community, Possibility, Existence,
and Necessity.7 Thus, the understanding of any perceived thing as a whole entity, or
as having an independent material existence, or as being caused by anything, or as
itself the cause of anything has its origin in rational categories in the mind and is not
traceable to any essential quality or state of being that can be attributed to the thing in
itself, according to Kant.

The Machine Time Span
However, in each case, it is assumed that the machine time is known as soon as it
occurs. This machine has a direct consequence on the number of operation that is
fixed and indirectly reflects on the total number of operation present in the potential
re scheduling. Instances of the job shop problem (10x10, 8x15, 5x10, 10x 15, 5x15,
5x20, 6x24, 10x20,) are considered. Two machines can influence the decision
variables. Several cases with different values of this parameter are studied. The
different simulations tested in this research consider various times of these three
machines. From the above two method the obtained sequence times are less than the
observation time span. Both method has reduce the time span of job shop but Gupta s
heuristicrule has reduce maximum time span i.e. 196 and CDS rule take 200 time to
complete all operation in here machines. Reducing the time span of the scheduling
method deteriorates the increasing production rates. Each optimizationproblem must
have an objective function which has to be either minimized or maximized in order
to get a solution. Here each job has a no operations and each operation has a
particular make time. When these make times are arranged in the sequence of the
schedule then each machine gets one particular make time. Out of all the machines
the machines which have the maximum make time that is the make span value, there

Hamlet Twelfth Night
William Shakespeare s plays Hamlet and Twelfth Night are completely opposite
plays. However, there are many connections that can be made between the two.
Seeing as Hamlet is a dark tragedy and Twelfth Night is a romantic comedy, both
seem to have romantic twists to them developed by the hindering of the truth of one s
appearance. These are shown through major themes, such as deceit through disguises,
complex love triangles, and varying opinions of marriage.
In the play Twelfth Night Shakespeare uses disguise as a major theme. This is
partially what makes the play a comedy but also creates the ties to Hamlet . In the
beginning of Hamlet the main character himself makes everyone believe he is mad
to try to get the truth out of his uncle of why is father died. Many of the other
characters in this play pretend to be good natured and caring toward Hamlet, when
in all reality they were unjust and self absorbed. In Twelfth Night, many of the
characters disguise themselves as someone else, such as Viola pretending to be
Cesario. Olivia falls in love with Cesario . Feste and Malvolio disguise themselves as
two completely different people than the people they ... Show more content on

In Twelfth Night, the main love triangle occurs between the main character Viola,
Olivia, and Orsino. The play begins with Orsino already being in love with Viola,
who then follows Olivia falling in love with Viola, who is dressed as Cesario and
in love with Orsino. The love triangle is solved when Viola s twin brother Sebastian
arrives. Olivia marries Sebastian, thinking him to be Viola. Thus leaving Orsino
without a love interest and to find out that Viola is a woman. He decides to marry
her when he finds out. The love triangle in Hamlet, or rather sexual tension, is
underlying between mother and son. A great deal of jealousy is also present between
Hamlet and Claudius in pursuit of Gertrude s

Ancient Ethiopia
Ethiopia is famously known for its river the Blue Nile which rises from a spring
near Lake Tana and flows through different directions generating much of the north
hydroelectric power (Heinrichs, Pg.20 21). Its physical landscape consists of
volcanos and earthquakes that made Ethiopia land uneven over time. An example
would be the great rift valley that runs from the north and south. Another aspect is
the highland and lowlands that consists of steep sided mountains with deep gorges
between them and flat topped peaks called Ambas (Heinrichs, Pg.13 15). These high
places on the plateau made for fortresses for Ethiopia kings, whose looked down

the region became a thriving trading center in which merchants exchange gold and
ivory for materials. The Axumite had a highly develop culture (Gish, Thay, Latif,
Nevins, Pg. 24 26). It s more famous biblical figure that s been proclaimed by the
six scribes, that the country monarchy was descended from the queen of Sheba and
King Solomon in order to unite their country. The queen of Sheba visited king
Solomon who in turn became her mentor in the arts of royal statecraft. Legend has it
that their son Menelik I, was declared king by his father and that his descendants
ruled the kingdom of Axum for centuries (Gish, Thay, Latif, Nevins, Pg. 25 26).
These details add a rich spiritual texture to Ethiopia history. Ethiopia power in the
monarchy lasted many years until it enters military rule, of 1974 1991(Gish, Thay,
Latif, Nevins, Pg. 31). The last emperor Haile Selassie modernizes the country,
introduces a constitution, a two house parliament, and a court system. He also
abolishes slavery and eliminated brutal punishment for crime (Heinrichs, Pg.50). He
was a respected leader among the African nations. He also brought Ethiopia into the
United Nations, and in 1963, helped form

Gender Roles In The Middle East And Southeast Asia
The diversities within North Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia (cultural,
religious, political, etc.) play a crucial part in the status of women and the key
features of gender roles in these particular geographic regions. The Middle East and
North Africa share commonalities through Arabic and Islamic culture. Establishing
equalities for women amongst the current social and political changes of Middle
Eastern and North African societies stands as a difficult obstacle to overcome, but in
spite of this, women s rights efforts are still being made. While Islamic culture is
dominant in Southeast Asia, the culture of Southeast Asian nations is diverse. Islam
and gender in Southeast Asia have contributed to the continuing debate over Islam,
feminism, and gender rights in the region. The cultures of North Africa, the Middle
East, and Southeast Asia are male dominated, but this cultural dominance might not
sustain in the future. This essay will compare and contrast the current status of
women and the key features of gender roles in North Africa and the Middle East
with those of Southwest Asia. Examples will also be provided to justify any
arguments that are made. The Middle East and North Africa While discussing gender
roles in North Africa and the Middle East, Pulsipher et al. (2014) found, Increasing
research evidence suggests that the dawning of agriculture may have marked the
transition to markedly distinct roles for men and women (p.244). It is implied that this

The Impact Of Neoliberal Institutionalism On The United...
RAL INSTITUTIONALISM Neoliberal Institutionalism is one of many schools of
international relations theory often used to both describe and predict trends and
characteristics of the global political landscape. The new liberal institutionalist school
of international relations theory owes it roots to the functional integration study of
the 1950 s and 1960 s, and the complex interdependence scholarship of the 1970 s and
1980 s (Lamy p.132). As part of the larger umbrella of liberal approaches, neoliberal
institutionalism holds a typically positive view of humanity and possibilities for
interaction, peace and cooperation, yet places more emphasis on exploring the role of
institutions than its predecessors. To comprehensively understand the neoliberal
institutional approach to world politics, it is also necessary to understand its
opposing theory of neorealism. While the two schools of thought disagree on the
implications of political structure, both scholarships share similar epistemology and
asks largely the same questions which is why Keohane and Martin(1999:3) refer to
neoliberal institutionalism as the half sibling of neorealism ; making it insufficient to
discuss one without comparing it to the other. Therefore I have framed much of my
definition of neoliberal institutionalism in the context of the neo neo debate. As
mentioned above, the state centric theoretical approaches of neoliberal
institutionalism and neorealism shares in many key assumptions of the global

Argument Against Golf
Nowadays there are a great many of sports and activities that we are able to enjoy.
When it comes to some of these activities many people discuss whether they are a
sport or a game. There is a certain debate that deals with Golf and it is, whether it
should be considered a sport or a game. Many people have different views and
opinions on things and golfis one of them. My view is that golf should be considered
a sportfor multiple reasons. First it follows the definition of a sport, second it is
included in major sporting events such as the Olympics, and third its golfers are
considered athletes just like any other sport. Since Golf is reaches the definition of a
sport it helps see how golf qualifies for the title of sport. Merriam Webster... Show

The definition of a athlete is someone who is proficient in a sport and other
physical exercise. There are many people who are proficient at golf and are
considered golf athletes. These people go on golf tours and do tournaments
competing against other golf athletes and are very good at what they do. Not all
people who play a sport leisurely are considered athletes so not all golfers should
be considered athletes. Professional golfers should really be considered athletes
due to the effort and work they put into getting ready for their games. ESPN did a
study in 2004 asking many other athletes on what they believed. There was
opinions that golf isn t really a sport but a very difficult game. There was however
quite a few people who said that golf is definitely a sport. Many athletes from
different sports claim that golf is a very difficult sport and that s why people like
it. They make many good points and a lot of them talk about how they thought golf
was not as difficult until they actually tried it and realised how truly difficult it is.
Many of these athletes have played golf before and understand what it s like and
they recognize that is should definitely be considered a sport. One also talks about
the training some of the golf players do in order to get ready for a game and how
intense they do train for it. According to one website called golflink it talks about
what golfers now do to

The Benefits Of Extracurricular Activities
In the United States, 57 percent of high school students participate in at least one
kind of extracurricular activity (Bureau UC). Through extracurricular activities, youth
have opportunities to develop very important life skills. Through participating in an
activity that requires time outside of the normal school hours, students can learn to
manage their time more efficiently. They must also develop rigorous study habits to
perform well in the classroom as well as in their chosen activity or activities. Through
team oriented activities and clubs, students must learn to work with others and attain
interpersonal skills, along with a solid work ethic. Such activities provide a different
type of environment than the classroom provides, and help them to become
comfortable in various situations. There are many proven benefits when teens
participate in extracurricular activities; such benefits include improved physical well
being, higher self esteem, academic excellence, important social skills, and
preparation to succeed not only school, but other settings as well. Extracurricular
activities are activities that are facilitated by adult supervisors and are conducted
outside of school hours. Examples of some such activities include sports teams,
debate teams, choir, orchestra, band, dance, cheer, and numerous clubs. Through
participation in extracurricular activities, youth can develop good health habits, even
if the activity or club does not include physical activity. In the world today, many kids
waste a great deal of time just looking at the screen of their smartphone, or sitting in
front of a television set. A lot of time may also be spent out with friends. When kids
are out participating in different after school activities, they are not only practicing
good habits and spending their time on positive developmental activities, but they can
discover activities that they really like and may not otherwise have tried. They can
find something that interests them and spend time practicing skills and discovering
their passions. Through extracurricular activities, students have opportunities to learn
things outside the classroom in a hands on experience. Being involved in these
activities enhances intrinsic motivation

Credit Sesame Commercial Meaning
The ad that caught my ear was a commercial on the Logo TV Channel (Channel
254 on Dish Network) during an episode of The Nanny that was promoting the
product Credit Sesame. The commercial begins with a woman sitting on a couch
saying, It seems like everybody wants to give you a free credit score these days.
Okay, I got my score. Now what? Then, she explains that Credit Sesame is a service
that gives consumers a free credit score, but also shows them what is impacting their
score and gives them a strategy to improve their credit score. The woman also
highlights the fact that Credit Sesame can also suggest credit cardsthat can help
consumers save money. Finally, she ends by joking, I mean if Credit Sesame can do
all that, I wonder if they... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though the advertisement was only thirty seconds long, the advertisement stuck
with me because of the humorous line at the end of the commercial that caught my
attention. Another marketing strategy used in the ad was using fear. The ad seemed
to be designed to invoke a sense of fear into consumers that just knowing their credit
score was not enough, and that Credit Sesame would be the perfect solution to
subside those fears of the unknown. Additionally, Credit Sesame seems to be using
the marketing strategy of repetition. With the commercial being only thirty seconds
long, Credit Sesame can air the advertisement more often I have seen this commercial
often on this channel and others. The advertisement was also slightly louder than the
television show I was watching, which is a famously unpopular marketing strategy;
however, the volume change was only apparent to me when I reviewed the ad a few
times for this assignment. Finally, the advertisers used bright colors and graphics to
make the television commercials eye catching. I do not own the product that the
advertisement is promoting, but these marketing strategies have almost swayed me
into checking out Credit Sesame. However, after learning about restraint in making
purchases in Personal Finance, I will do some research beforehand to make sure that
the product is legitimate and safe to

Dangers Of Pokemon Go
Pokemon Go is a free to play game on iPhone, Android, and other smartphones that
uses location (Google Maps) and data (service) to spawn virtual monsters
(Pokemon) for you to catch. Ever since Pokemon Go released back in July of 2016,
it has caused so much havoc, with deaths and other injuries related to the game
(Miller), that China banned Pokemon Go because of the dangers behind the game,
along side with the threat of China being hacked! (Sun). Pokemon Go should NOT
be banned in China because people are just overreacting, people are getting rid of
weight and their anxiety, and it increases revenues at restaurants that are Pokestops or
Gyms in the game.

Pokemon Go helps businesses increase profits and helps people get over their
PTSD and anxiety, which is HUGE. Without Pokemon Go, so many people would
still be inside, and some restaurants may or may not be able to stay open, meaning
without Pokemon Go, your favorite restaurant or shops may close down. One
good example is how their is a toy shop in Eugene called The Dancing Weasel, and
it isn t a popular shop, but since it is a Pokestop and has 6 or 7 Pokestops, along
side with Pokegyms next to it, I can guarantee that it has increased in profits. I
mean, hey, I even went in there to see their shop just because they were a
Pokestop. Pokemon has grown so much in the past 21 years, but Pokemon has
never been more popular than how it was last year. With so many stories about
how Pokemon Go helps with life problems and disorders, if China still bans this
game, it s their loss! So I advise anyone who is reading this to get outside and play
Pokemon Go, and to support your community, alongside with making some new
friends in the

Three Religions and Three Holy Cities
Southwest Asia is home to a variety of cultures as well as religions. It has an
significant past with three major religions: Islam, Christianity, and Judaism. It is
quite remarkable that Southwest Asia has been a holy place for all three, and
although it causes turmoil it is important to understand the three religions and their
customs. Such information may help us not to judge so quickly or perhaps to grow
in our knowledge about the world. Hopefully this will help everyone to have a wider
view of the world than just the town they reside in or even the country they live in.
Islam Islam is the religion founded from the teachings of the prophet
Muhammad. It is often depicted as a violent and irrational religion by the United
States. This is not entirely true and although some of its customs may seem hostile
there is always a reason for them. We must learn to respect the opinions of
everyone and make correct choices for ourselves accordingly. Islam is represented
by a crescent moon and a star. The moon is depicted as waxing or waning. Islam
has Three Major Holy cities: Mecca, Medina, and Jerusalem. The symbolic essence
of the religious holidays of Islam are quite large and are celebrated slightly different
according to your denomination. For example, if you are a Sunni Muslim then you
would not participate in the act of beating yourself and cutting yourself as a Shi ite
Muslim would practice on the holy day of Ashura. Other popular Islamic holidays
include Maulid, the

The Four Methods Of Raising Children
It is common for the older generation to talk about having their children. These
stories are usually filled with happiness and sorrow as they recount the troubles and
joys they had raising their kids. Not every parent has the same method for teaching
their children. There are four basic methods that are used by most though and they
are as follows:
В· The Authority Method This is the method where the main form of control over the
children is fear. This means that anything the parents tell their children must be
obeyed without question. The children listen because they know if they do not the
punishments are severe and followed through with. There is no conversation or
compromise, it is what it is. Those children who do not comply or who question their
parents are punished. This method does not lead to a healthy and happy child. Instead
of loving their parents, they fear them instead. Many of the children produced from an
authority upbringing have hard times in adult life because they do not know how to
interact with others in a healthy manner. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They do not stop this type of bad behavior and ignore it instead. Instead of steering
their children in the right direction or setting boundaries, they feel that their children
learn more by making their own mistakes and learning from them. There is more
openness in the parent child relationship and compromise is the key for the parents
who use this method of parenting. The one aspect that is good about this parenting
method is that the parents are much closer to their children that the authority parents
and they tend to be more open minded when their children are not cut exactly from
the same cloth as they are. The children are allowed to be their own people and this
allows for more

Green Burial
Life has a cycle and death is inevitable. We all die. How we die and the choice of
the body s disposal is what sets up apart. It is easy to think the American way of
death is the same for everyone but that s far from the truth. There are many ways to
create a meaningful send off after one s death. This include traditional burials,
cremation and a growing practice, green burials.
For the past 150 years, American funerals have consisted of traditional burial
practices which include interment of the entire body with the use of embalming in
impenetrable wood or metal caskets with concrete vaults and liners (Harris, p.13). It
involves the pumping of embalming fluid, mainly formaldehyde, into to the body to
slow decay (Harker 2012). The assumption ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Specifically, for Jewish or Muslim funeral traditions, green burial is an easy way to
meet the requirements of the individual canon law. Both of these religions reject
embalming and encourage the natural decomposition of the body. With the Muslim
funeral rites including the washing of the body, shrouding, funeral prayer, and
burial (Campo, p.161). Similarly, the Jewish funerary rites include the tahara
which is the washing and shrouding of the body by a chevra kadhisha (Golbert,
p.56). One religion that green burials wouldn t be able to fit the requirements of a
traditional funeral is Christianity, that involves a viewing, a vigil, funeral mass and
right to committal (Larson Miller, p.102 103). Even though, in terms of Christian
belief and environmental concerns, it makes more sense because it seems to honor
the Old Testament verse in Genesis which says from dust you are, and to dust you
shall return . It also makes the point that death is a natural process that involves
decay. The simplicity and authenticity it possesses are two of the many qualities that
appeal to its consumers (Chiu 2016). The Green burials allow for the decease to
have a choice in the way that they leave the earth and how they are remembered.
Whether it s by reducing their carbon footprint, rekindling one s relation to the earth
or having and allowing

Hammurabi s Codes
Hammurabi s Code is one of the earliest and most complete codes of law that have
been identified. Hammurabi the King of Babylon (located in present day Iraq)
reigned from 1792 to 1750 BCE. (History.com) His code was inscribed on a stele
which was carved from basalt and has withstood time to be currently displayed in
the Louvre in Paris. There were two known codes written before Hammurabi s, one
was written by Ur Nammu of the city of Ur, this code was written in the 21st
century B.C. The second code was the Sumerian Code of Lipit Ishtar of Isin and
dates at least two centuries prior to Hammurabi s Code. These codes referenced above

It tells us that there was some type of organized body that made decisions about
criminals, because some of the laws speak of judges. The cultures had classes of
people. There were slaves, middle class, upper class and a ruling class. There was
also a very distinct difference between men and women, so at least we know where
inequality came from. They had a family unit that consisted of a mother, father and
children. One law states that if a woman bore children for a man, he could not
divorce her, which indicates that might have been a common problem during this
age. I think that problem might have been around for a long time. They had
merchants of all types and business being performed and goods being traded. And
the laws reflected all of these activities. The punishments were sometimes fair and
sometimes harsh. The most evident deduction is that there was definitely a
pecking order between classes of people. Statements such as if a slave harmed his
master, he could be killed. But if a person of equal stature harmed another person
from his class, he might just be fined or receive the same back as his punishment.
(an eye for an eye) All of these facts are indicators that Hammurabi s Code and the
Covenant Code were intended as a deterrent for crimes that existed during his

The American Public Education System
In American two out of three eighth graders can t read proficiently and for African
American and Hispanic students across the country dropout rates are close to 40
percent and those were just two of the many ways the American Education System
has failed its members. Education in the United States is provided by public schools
and private schools. Public educationis universally required at the kindergarten
through twelfth grade level. Budgets and policies are set through locally elected
schoolboards, who have jurisdiction over individual school districts. State
governments set overall educational standards, often mandate standardized tests for K
12 public schoolsystems, and supervise, usually through a board of regents, state
colleges and universities. Funding for public schools come from the state, local, and
federal government. However, with all the aforementioned points of intervention is a
new issue which only serves to reinforce my thesis that the American Public
Education System or APES for short is a static system in which over governing,
overcrowding, and forced assimilation have run rampant. In recent years the APES
has been undergoing a crisis in which academic performance has been falling behind
other countries such as Russia, Japan, and China in core subjects. While there seems
to be a lack of public knowledge about this pressing issue its precedence still speaks
volumes about what is currently happing within our country. In comparison to

Paleolithic Food Pros And Cons
Paleolithic diets are based on a simple concept, If a caveman didn t consume it,
neither should you. Any food that was unavailable to the hunter gatherer population
of humans of old, you simply avoid. To understand what kind of food was available
back then, we must first understand the history of agriculture. The Neolithic
Revolution (which happened around 10,000 BC) brought on the mass domestication
of various plants; this paved the way for incredible economic growth, but also the
inadvertent drastic increase in the fragility of the human bodydue to the narrowed
diversity of available foods. Instead of eating a variety of meat, as humans have
done for thousands and thousands of years, we have been depending on various
mass produced grain based foods and our bodies have not acclimated well to this

Faced with an overabundance of easily accessible food, we struggle to limit our
consumption. More importantly perhaps, we struggle to eat the nutrients our body
needs. Grains are only the beginning of the problem however. It is fair to assume
our Neanderthal ancestors would not have had access to refined sugar products
(such as high fructose corn syrup that is ubiquitously available now), salt, artificial
flavouring, or even as much dairy products as we consume on a regular basis
(Kamb, 2010). According to the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention,
approximately 52.4% of adults across the United States are overweight, over 20%
of those are considered obese. These numbers are only getting worse and they
appear a direct byproduct of our sudden change of diet. Therefore, I believe that
Paleo diets are the better decision moving forward for a majority of the population as
it is more sustainable, healthier, biologically balanced, and it is a diet that can turn

Analysis Of Man In The Mirror
Man in the Mirror is about a man who believes that only by changing himself will
he be able to change the world. The main focus of the song is a man s struggle to
improve himself morally after witnessing his inability to impact the lives of those in
need. Michael Jackson reflects on how the world around him is suffering while he
lives a life of comfort, and the guilt triggers his decision to change himself so that he
can eventually help the world. . The song raises up questions such as, What purpose
does an individual serve in a community? How can we bring about positive changes
to the world? How can one person make a major impact in the world? Man in the
Mirror sends a very universal message, basically telling the world to improve
themselves individually so that the whole improves as a result. The discussion will
focus more on the symbolical lyrics because there is a lot of straightforward
vocabulary in each verse.
In the first verse, Michael uses a winter coat and cold weather to give an example of
the trying times that some people undergo. First he mentions the coat he wears to
protect himself from the chilly weather As I turned up the collar on my favourite
winter coat. Despite wearing the coat, Michael states that the wind still got to his
head This wind is blowin my mind. This personification of the wind is used to
illustrate how Michael escaped the physical affects of the cold but not the mental
effects. The reason why it affected him mentally is because of what follows, which
is the sight of kids in the street, with not enough to eat . Michael feels sorry for the
kids suffering in the street because he has the resources to survive and they don t.
He states that the coat is his favorite, meaning he has multiple coats. The difference
between him and the struggling children becomes even more apparent when the
audience realizes that Michael is rich and that he has probably never suffered like
the kids. He then questions himself saying: who am I, to be blind? In this case blind
is used as a metaphor to show how much neglect the kids have been receiving from
him as an individual. Although the kids are there struggling, Michael is probably too
caught up in his own world to acknowledge their

Theme Of Desertion In Jay Mcinerney s Bright Lights, Big
City
Bright Lights, Big City, by Jay McInerney, continually reinforces the idea that
being left behind can drastically alter someone as a person. The Narrator in this
book is a basket case due to the break up of him and his wife, Amanda. In Fight
Club, the Narrator is abandoned by his father; he, however, takes it out a different
way; violence. McInerney s noveland Palahniuk s segment both display the theme
that abandonment and desertion can lead a person to become lost and astray. Neither
author ever reveals the narrator s name, which embodies the absentness in each
characterand gives the reader the impression that they are lost. In Bright Lights, Big
City the narrator tries to run from the pain of an unsatisfying reality by going out
to the clubs every night, drinking alcohol and snorting cocaine. The narrator s
wife, Amanda, called him one day from Paris, where she was doing a photo shoot
to tell him that she wouldn t be coming home, that she was leaving him. He dwells
over this the entire novel, and his way of coping with it is to go out and alleviate
the pain through the use of drugs, All might come clear if you could just slip into
the bathroom and do a little more Bolivian marching powder (McInerney 1). Towards
the beginning of the novel, the narrator is high off of cocaine and concealed within

In each novel the narrator has lost a significant figure, which has led them to live
the way they do. One big difference though is that in Big City, Bright Lights, the
narrator and his wife were separated which caused him to rely on drugs, booze and
women to mask actuality. Whereas in Fight Club the narrator grew up without a
father, this ultimately led him to fight club. Maybe we didn t need a father to
complete ourselves. There s nothing personal about who you fight in fight club. You

Neoliberalism Vs Evangelical Internationalism
Where separate nations, people groups, and political systems exist, many differing
economic policies and ideas exist as well. All of the world economic ideologies
consist of different focuses, morals, and processes of creating the ideal economic
system. Each ideology uses different methods and ideas that conflict with the others,
but these ideas can also overlap and be consistent in many areas. Four major
economic ideologies are neoliberalism, Evangelical internationalism, and Alternative
globalization. Each of these ideologies has many differences and contradictions with
one another, and yet according to critics on both sides, they each have their flaws as
well. Whereas the idea of neoliberalism is based on privatization, free market,... Show

Evangelical Christian groups, such as the International Justice Mission (IJM) and
Concerned Women for America, aim to fight against anti trafficking and White
Slavery, or forced prostitution (Bernstein 2007, 403). Before Evangelical
Internationalism came about, these Christian groups took a much more isolationist
view, where they focused mainly on traditional religious values. These groups
were thought to have a specific sexual agenda in their missions to rescue women
forced into prostitution and slavery. These groups use the term slave instead of sex
worker, although many of the women in the industry do not see themselves as
slaves (Bernstein 2007, 405). Although the new view is anti capitalist and pro
social welfare, within this older Isolationist view, many people associated these
Evangelical groups with having neoliberal ideals. For example, many critics said
that this Evangelical fight against slavery had become a way for the groups to
advocate for their own religious agendas (Bernstein 2007, 407). For example, when
U.S. President Bush passed the charitable choice law that government funds would
help these Evangelical groups, many people were under the impression that the lines
between the secular state and religion were being blurred (Bernstein 2007, 406).
Later on, when President Bush cut off all funds from Brazil s AIDS program, these
questions seemed to be answered, and major protests erupted across the country in
response to the U.S. religious agenda, along with the neoliberal agenda of the
Washington Consensus (Amar, 438). However, after a clear shift from this
Isolationist view to an International one, different mechanisms shifted society from
repressive, into a much more empowering one (Bernstein, 430). This new view is

Censorship In Nazi Book Burning
Historical Censorship: Nazi book burnings
Censorship is one of the many manifestations used by the Nazi s throughout the most
notorious genocide in history. Censorship is essentially the suppression or
prohibition of any parts of books, films, news, etc. that are considered obscene,
politically unacceptable, or a threat to security. Book Burnings are a method of
censorship that the government uses to diminish a group of people s interpretations,
very often in a time of annihilation. Heinrich Heine once said, Wherever they burn
books, in the end will also burn human beings. Book Burning, the public act of
turning books to ash, ultimately resorts to the act of turning humans to ash. Books
represent the rights of freedom of speech and freedom to express your beliefs, and
when those rights are taken away, dehumanization is the outcome. The May 10, 1933
Nazi book burning, was the first major act of censorship against the Jews.
Symbolically, the extermination of 25,000 books ultimately led to the murder of six
million Jews. The act of book burning prohibits the spread of information through
literary works, contrary to the ultimate goal of authors and publishers who wish to
share their opinions.
During a time of annihilation, an essential tactic comes into play; censorship. When
censorship is present, the government leaves no room for individual thinking and
eliminates everything that could create it. The Holocaust was a time of liquidation
and extermination of all Jewish

Bowling For Columbine Ethos Pathos Logos
Bowling for Columbine film by Michael Moore is a film in which its central
argument is that Americans are afraid of each mainly because of the media whose
goals are to put fear in the American community. Unlike several documentaries this
one is unique; this film is intended to appeal to the audience who are against guns
or are pro gun control and safety. Across this film, Moore s takes all of the
audience through an exploration of the history of guns and violence, and with the
big question, we all ask when a young adult commits a violent act, whom should we
blame for this? We start off with ethos or credibility. One way Moore shows
credibility is when he not only interviewed one side of the gun issues but both. An
example would be when he interviewed victims of the Columbine massacre, a parent
of one of the victims, but also the NRA (National Rifle Association)... Show more

of the six year old boy who shot and killed the six year old girl Michaela Roland in
Flint, Michigan. Moore talks about how Tamarla was not home the morning of the
incident because she was on her three hour round trip bus journey to Oakland
country, to work at her two jobs at the mall, as part of the State of Michigan s
welfare program. Pathos conveyed in two ways to the audience; first, they are
shocked, that how in the world did a six year old boy get a hold of a gun?
Moreover, the audience gets exceptionally heartbroken about the little girl s death
which gave fuel to the fire on hatred for gun

while others stick with the audience. What makes some ads memorable and others
forgettable? The product may be visually appealing, from a desirable brand, or
presented as a solution to the viewer s problem such as anti aging cream for
wrinkles. Such is the case for an ad for The Venetian resort and casino in Vanity
Fair, a high end magazine. Featured in the ad is an older woman sitting invitingly on
a luxurious white bed with bountiful pillows. This ad may appeal to a high socio
economic class of viewers with a desire to belong in a high class society in
accordance with a term called snob appeal (134), coined by Stuart Hirschberg, the
Associate Professor at Rutgers University. The argument suggests advancing age will
not interfere with having fun by targeting a specific audience, using unconventional
visual appeals, a logical text structure, The Venetian s status to establish credibility,

A trip to Las Vegas entails spending several hundred dollars on a hotel alone.
Combining this with gambling, shows, sightseeing, flights, and food, the trip can

Writing history requires diligence, research, checking and rechecking the
information and most of all an understanding that no matter how hard a person tries
their own beliefs, biases, and history will color the information they are writing.
Having the ability to trace the steps writers take to arrive at certain conclusions helps
the readers to assimilate the information with some degree of understanding, if they
choose to follow the research. This does not mean that everyone who reads the
material will arrive at the same conclusion, however, just as a writer has bias, so does
the reader.

The Concept Of Excessive Cost Of Borrowing Money
The concept of excessive cost of borrowing money dates back to the earliest accord
of Barter . It was a common practice amongst the ancient civilizations to charge a
crude amount of excessive cost in their everyday borrowings. According to Andrew
Beattie, in his work on the history of money; from barter to cash notes to now
bitcoins , ancient civilizations predating to around 500BC and pre Biblical times
religion and cultures have from time to time defined the concept of the Interest,
omnibus to both the interest and usury.
The history of Riba/Interest is rich particularly in the subcontinent and with the
advent of the Islamic religion many subcontinent scholars have provided
jurisprudence for this rather controversial area, building up ... Show more content on

The caravans and the trading activities made the Quresh tribe who were one of the
controllers or the influential tribe to collect trading tax and permit transactions within
the realm of the Mekkah city. Thus Mekkah city was a hub of trading and transactions
of various commodities prominent including carpets, carpentry, wool, jewelry and
drinks.
Thus the city and the traders also had a crude system of trading laws which allowed
for loans and the cost of borrowing of such loans. Although not documented or stated
in any written instrument, the earliest documented statement about riba in pre
Islamic time also widely known as the period of Jahiliyyah or the dark age or the age
of ignorance, as stated by Imam Malik:
Riba in the Jahiliyyah was that a man would have a debt on a man for a set term.
When the term was due, he would say, Will you pay it off or increase me? If the
man paid, he took it. If not, he increased him in his debt and lengthened the term for
him.
Thus it indicated the concept of Riba was though present, however there was no
preset percentage neither any fixed charge. The charge dependent heavily upon the
ability of the debtor (the one who owes money to the lender) and it can be increased
at the discretion of the lender.
Another instance is to be found in the words Ibn Jarir;
The riba of Jahiliyyah was a transaction whereby a person would sell something for a
payment to be made at a specified

The Body As A Metaphor For Society
In Andean society many societies and cultures generally believed that all things, such
as mountains, rivers, and waterfalls had life (Benson 2001: 1). The Andean
individuals believed that all inanimate objects were thus animated. This ideology not
only influenced the way they thought about the world, but also the way they treated
and viewed the body. The body is a very important and useful theme in archeology as
the body acts as a metaphor for society, the way a society/culturetreats the body
provides vital important regarding their worldview. In addition, the body is a tool of
lived experience which can indicate how individuals lived, what was sacred or
important to them and also shedding light on who they were. In other words, by
understanding how bodies were conceptualized in Andean societies archeologist can
indicate the significance of certain ritualpractices. It is important to deconstruct the
body as it provides social truths regarding a specific culture within the Andean region.
Furthermore, people do things to their bodies which may help archeologists
understand their belief system, the practices/work they may have been doing. For
example, if an individual spends their whole life grinding corn the body would reflect
this activity and thus would be able provide information regarding that culture. This
theme concerning the body pushes us to consider distinct ontologies as different
cultures and societies developed differently and thus has diverse beliefs,

The Traditional Family And The Socialization Of The
Modern...
Introduction.
The family is one of the oldest but most important institution known to man and the
society in which he/ she lives. According to the U.S. Census Bureau (2005) a family
consists of two or more people, one of whom is the householder, related by birth,
marriage, or adoption and residing in the same housing unit. A household consists of
all people who occupy a housing unit regardless of relationship. A household may
consist of a person living alone or multiple unrelated individuals or families living
together. Therefore, during the course of time, the family structure has evolved, in
some cases, changed which resulted in different family structures forming. Two of the
most important are the traditional family structure and the modern family structure.
As a result, various theorists have his/ her own views of these two family structures.

The structural functionalists view the traditional family as an important institution
which is the basic building block of society that carry out the crucial functions of
socialising the young and meeting the emotional needs of its members. Additionally,
some theorists argue that traditional family is universal. To this extend, they see the
family as performing several essential functions. These include:
a)Stable satisfaction of the sex drive within monogomous relationships
b)The biological reproduction of the next generation without which society cannot
continue.
c)Socialisation of the young teaching basic norms and values
d)Meeting its members economic needs producing food and shelter for example
Some hold the view that the traditional family is the only institution that can perform
two core functions in society: Primary Socialisation and the Stabilisation of Adult
Personalities.
1. Primary Socialisation: the nuclear family is responsible for teaching children the
norms and values of society known as Primary

Sorry By Ntozake Shange Summary
Many people are wronged in the world. Most people think that one word will fix
that problem when in fact it doesn t. Sorry is an empty word that takes
responsibility off the person that committed the wrong. Through the poem Sorry
the author Ntozake Shange illustrates this point very well. Telling her story of the
word sorry, it just goes to show the reader that actions speak louder than words, and
how pointless and meaningless apologies through words really are. Sorries don t
always fix the wrong and also don t always make the person feel better. One thing i
don t need is any more apologies i got sorry greeting me at my front door you can

excuse to take responsibility off of a person s self. The author s style really shows
how it is an excuse for whatever and person has done

In 1815 the restored Spanish monarchy dispatched the largest army it had ever sent
to the New World. It waged a war of counter revolutionary terror. The creole patriot
movement in Venezuela was shattered by executions and confiscations. By 1816 the
revolution seemed to be on the brink of defeat. But this was not the first major
drawback. Many of the initial risings of 1810 had been defeated. The movement had
learned lessons from this, and later recovered and counterattacked. In the south, Jose
de San Martin had transcended the parochialism of local militias and built a
centralised revolutionary army the Army of the Andes capable of operating across the
continent. In the north, Simon Bolivar had also grasped the need for organisation and

Case Study Of The Body Shop

Personal profile the name behind the Body Shop, a famous cosmetic line for decades
now, is Anita Roddick. On October 23, 1942 in Littlehampton, Sussex, England marks
her birth to an immigrant Italian family. After completing her degree at the Newton
Park College of education, she worked as a part time teacher and for the United
Nations in Geneva. After that, she travelled to different places like Tahiti, New
Hebrides, New Caledonia, Reunion, Madagascar, Mauritius, Australia, and
Johannesburg. Her fascination with the women she encountered in these places

Roddick started with small bottles since that was what she was complaining on.

and at the same time, maintaining products to be in line with green . Supporting the
environment is ensconced in the Body Shop from the very beginning. Years later, as
the Body Shop grew larger and larger, Roddick combined principles with profit.
Personality has much to say in defining Roddick s success. In Roddick s eyes,
Body Shop succeeded because of two reasons. Economic survival of her family,
especially during its beginnings, was a primary driving factor; and, the passion to
establish a shop of her own and to engage in trading was the other. She therefore
succeeded not because of a capitalist goal, which is profit. What she did was she
thought of ways to survive in the market. She did not dream of a big shop. The shop

Dolores Huerta
Latina Leader
For thousands of years immigration to the United States has been considered one
of the biggest problems and has been one of the topics most talked about, especially
in this year, being one of the favorite topics to talk about in the presidential debates.
Yet, due to speeches given by President Donald Trump little is known and talked
about the problems immigrants, especially Latinos face day by day, socially and
economically. By being a minority in the United States it has been very difficult for
immigrant farm workers to get where they are now and have more opportunities than
before the 1970s. Fortunately, there have been organizations and leaders that have
helped immigrants through the years, one of these being Dolores Huerta. ... Show

Socially Huerta fought against discrimination and racism against Latinos, but she did
not only help the Latino community, but she also helped fight for women s rights.
Although there hasn t been a complete elimination discrimination against minorities
and women in the whole country there has been a big improvement. It was while
she was working in New York, where she met feminist Gloria Steinem, who
inspired her to start a feminist movement (Dolores Huerta). Another big social
change is that Latinos became more involved in politics each year. Especially in
this year s elections Latinos have proved to have a big influence in state politics as
their power have boosted the concentration on the Democratic side as 22 out of 24
are democratic (Los Angeles Times). Now in days Dolores Huerta has continued to
influence politicians and organizations to continue helping the Latino/immigrant
community. One of these being the U visa program which has helped to encourage
more than 2000 immigrants that have suffered from domestic violence to report
these crimes without having to fear that they will be deported (Kaitlyn Schallhorn).
Politicians such as Jerry Brown in California have also helped the Latino community
by providing $ 176.6 million to fix and clean houses (California Latino Legislative).
Dolores Huerta has not taken for granted as shown by today and the previous year,
her legacy continues as she herself countess helping the Latino community. Creating
the United Farm Workers association and helping pass the Agricultural relation acts
as being without a doubt one of the most and significant things that Dolores has done
to help the immigrant and Latino community

The State Council Of The Peoples Republic Of China
The State Council of the Peoples Republic of China violates the Hong Kong Basic
Law by purposefully creating a pro Beijing majority in the Hong Kong Election
Committee and thus denies citizens participation in the election of their Chief
Executive. This social injustice forms part of a larger social justice struggle whereby
the autonomy of Hong Kongis slowly being eroded by Central Government control.
Hong Kong citizens have long been discontent with the Chinese Central
Government over concerns about their long term political freedom. Many believe
in the principles set forth by their British colonisers: capitalism, free trade and
freedom of speech. In contrast, China believes in communism by means of a one
party state and censorship. As a result of the huge disparity of social, economic and
political freedoms between Hong Kong and China, Hong Kong citizens have
developed their own sense of national pride, a type of Hong Kong centric identity
that celebrates their autonomy from the Central Government (Leung). Indeed a 2011
poll found that 67% of Hong Kong citizens considered them Hong Kong people first
and Chinese second showing the deep rootedness of the cultural divide that exists
between Hong Kong and China (The University of Hong Kong).
Meanwhile, the People s Republic of China and its citizens have never accepted
Hong Kong as a separate state; the reason for which lies in China s history. When the
British won the Opium Wars, they forced China into an unequal

brings multiple questions to the table. Is it moral to allow people like white

What Is The Difference Between The Harness And The
Murder
John Steinbeck is the author of several very successful books, one of which being
The Long Valley. Steinbeck wrote about what he knew, regardless of whether or not
it was appreciated by others. Not everyone was immediately enamored by his
writing, as his hometown of Salinas burned his books (Curwen) when he was first
beginning to write. However, as the stories gained popularity, Steinbeck was able to
return to his origins and found the National Steinbeck Center. The Long Valley is
made up of twelve different stories that consist of entirely different characters, but
many similarities can be found throughout the different stories in addition to the
differences. The Harness and The Murder are two stories that have both similarities
and differences. The first story, The Harness , tells the story of a model farmer
named Peter Randall, who is highly respected within the community. In the
beginning of the story, Peter s wife, Emma Randall, dies, and Peter becomes
predictably hysterical. However, throughout the rest of the story, the reader learns
how Peter s wife had dominated her husband and made practically all of his
decisions for him. The second story, The Murder , tells the story of another married
couple. The main character, Jim Moore, marries a sweet foreign girl named Jelka;
however, due to the communication barrier between the two, Moore begins to
frequent brothels in order to communicate with other women. At the end of the story,
Moore finds Jelka cheating on

Essay on Morrie Schwartz
Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom is a true story of an old man and his way of
dealing with the knowledge that he is slowly dying, and a disease is taking over his
body.
Morrie Schwartz was Mitch Alboms college professor more than twenty years ago.
We are first introduced to Morrie while Mitch is flipping through the television
channels and suddenly hears Morrie s name. Mitch had not heard from his from
professor for years and had not tried to get in touch with the professor, so the news
he heard next from the screen was a shock. Morrie Schwartz, his college professor
had been diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Scierosis or (ALS) an incurable and
fatal disease that takes over your nervous system. It is also known as Lou Gehrig s ...

Once Mitch finds out that Morrie is sick he tries to get a hold of Morrie and
travels to Morrie s house to meet with Morrie. Over the course of the next few
months Mitch flies to Pennsylvania every Tuesday to meet with Morrie. The
reunited friends begin to have their last sessions together about the importance of
life and what is in it. Morrie has lost the use of his legs by now and uses his hands
and arms to explain everything. Mitch gradually starts to open up to Morrie and is
more comfortable about being around him. The first television special they had on
Morrie was so popular that another special was recorded about the development of
the disease. Morrie eventually loses the ability to eat normal foods and the ability to
move his hand. Mitch had recorded the sessions every Tuesday and on one special
Tuesday Morrie asks to meet Mitch s wife, Janine.
The disease finally completely took over Morrie one evening, he passed away when
everyone had stepped out of the room peacefully, not wanting any one person to have
to bear the memory of when Morrie passed.
The author, Mitch Albom was a former professional musician, and hosts a daily
radio show on WJR in Detroit. Albom writes for the Detroit Free Press, and has
been voted America s number one sport columnist ten times by the Associated Press

Argumentative Essay On School Choice
The benefits or pitfalls of school choice are especially critical in our current
political climate. For one, Betsy DeVos, the current secretary of education, is an
avid proponent of school choice. Furthermore, President Trump s 2018 budget
request includes $1.4 billion toward new public and private school choice
opportunities (United States Department of Education, 2017). As taxpayers, it is
important to determine whether this sort of funding will succeed in what it sets
out to accomplish better educated students. The relationship between student
performance and school choice is also important to policymakers, as it would be
useless to funnel over a billion dollars into a program that does not work. Finally,
this topic is important to parents nationwide who expect their children will receive
the education they are entitled to. This research seeks to explore whether school
choice positively effects American students. This simple two word phrase
encapsulates a few different ideas. For one, school choice refers to the ability of
parents to enroll their child in any school they d like. Sometimes this is in the form
of open enrollment, in which parents may enroll their child in any public school
nearby (Cullen et.al., 2005). Generally, however, school choice is often used in
conjunction with the concept of school vouchers. School vouchers allow parents to
use government funds to help pay for the school of their choice (Greene Peterson,
1999). Usually the way this works is the

Compare Montesssori And Powell
In today s society, education is something that could definitely be improved for
children. Teachers could improve the kind of guidance and structure that they
provide for their children. Maria Montessori and Colin Powell have devoted their
lives trying to help reform education to be more beneficial for children. While
Montessori and Powell both have an amazing passion for their purpose, they both
have differing opinions of how this should happen. To begin, It is clear to readers
that both Montessori and Powell have contradicting ideas about the role of the
teacher in a child s development. In Montessori s handbook, the role of the teacher is
to be a guide. Montessori believes that we shall notice that the child has a personality
which... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Montessori shares her passion and desire for her hope of adult guidance in a child
s life as she states our Intervention in this marvelous process is indirect; we are here
to offer to this life, which came into the world by itself, the means necessary for its
development . Montessori uses this to express her passion and desire for children.
She implies that teachers should be even more patient with a child as his
development evolves because teachers are indirect in this intervention. She also
states that teachers are there for children to offer to the life they already have
because they came into this world by themselves and this is the means for
development. This implies that teachers have a special place in a child s life to
improve to the life that they already have. This shows that she wants what is best
for children. Furthermore, readers can comprehend that Montessori wants what s
best for kids because she elaborates that teachers should be always ready to share in
both the joys and the difficulties which the child experiences . Montessori explains
that adults should be always ready to share in a child s experiences. This implies that
adults need to be patient with children but always be ready to help them when
needed and rejoice with them when they succeed. She also explains that teachers
should always be ready. This display s that a teacher should always be there to help
each child and that a child should be able to approach her with any need that he has
without feeling a resistance to her. This shows that Montessori wants what is best
for kids, and she goes about this in a very passionate way. Similarly, Powell also
wants what is best for children. Lastly, Powell shows his passion for children as the
states that you d be amazed at what you can do with them once you put them in that
structure. Powell uses

3 Year Old Preschoolers
Human Development According to Piaget s theory of cognitive development
between 3 year old preschoolers and a 9 year old student, the age different plays a
significant role in their behavior. The 3 years old is starting to experience:
egocentricism, animism, using symbols to represent words and ask a lot of
questions to find out information. On the other hand, the 9 year old student is
experiencing: less egocentrism, centration no longer exists, capable of
conservation, capable of reversible thinking, but cannot think abstractly yet. There
are multiple stages that explain the core idea on why children with 2 different ages
express themselves in many different ways. The 3 year old preschooler goes
through the Piaget s preoperational stage by starting with pretend play and using
symbols to relate his or her message towards the people around. Since they are just
starting to talk and express themselves, egocentricism is starting to take place, but
that is not necessarily a problem. Their needs come first because they don t
understand that other people have a different point of view. One example would be:

Analysis Of The Jellyfish By Daniel Quinn

Ishmael
As much as humans don t want to admit it, the world wasn t solely created for us.
The novel, Ishmael, written by Daniel Quinn has given us an insight on how the
world has been treated by man and how it could end. In a time where the world is
being destroyed we need to step up and protect the earth from total destruction.
The Taker culture believes that the world was created for them so therefore they can
do whatever they want to it without any consequences. The idea that man believes he
rules the world is not only false but its constantly causing harm to the planet, Quinn
uses a lot of metaphors to try and explain what the takers are doing wrong and what
should be fixed. An example would be the jellyfish story, the point of the jellyfish
story is to show that man is not the final product of evolution. In Ishmael s story, the
jellyfish tells the anthropologist a factual account similar to the narrator s, except that
its version ends with the appearance of jellyfish.
Ishmael s point is that human culture operates under a creation myth where man is
the climax of evolution even though the universe continues to develop and evolution
is still occuring, man assumes that the Earth was made for them, since they were its
ultimate creation and final product. The narrator then concludes that the premise of
the Taker s story is that the world was made for man (Quinn) (61). The jellyfish story
gives another

Tunes to Tune Up Your Body to
Ah, the sound of music, one of the modern marvels that man has created since its
beginning. Over time, we have developed new ways to produce it, and now, we
can hear what others have produced on our phones, MP3 players, and radios. This
is the most awesome thing, because now, we can take music anywhere with us,
even when we are out and about working out. In fact, it is scientifically proven to
improve your exercising performance if you listen to the right songs. Now, how

Vatican II And The Church
On the eve of Vatican II, the Church struggled with the maximalist interpretation of
the two dogmas; at the same time, Vatican II took up the concerns of the minority
bishops as a bridge in order to discuss further the compatibility of the dogma of
infallibility with a communion ecclesiology. The work of Vatican II has remained a
building site, whose attempts to end Vatican centralization by means of its teachings
on collegiality. The challenges that Vatican II needs to deal with are two major
concerns: to rebel against centralization, and to bring the church out of its ghetto into
the modern world. Lumen Gentium offers very little attention to the two concerns,
and the appearance of the phrase hierarchical communion weakens the idea of
communion without actually saying anything new. After Vatican II, Pottmeyer
observes, The fear of a shared governance by bishops had remained. For example, in
1965, PopePaul VI established the synod of bishops and published the norms for its
operation. This form of permanent participation of the bishops in the leadership of
the church also made many of the council fathers disappointed. Fifty years after
Vatican II, the leadership struggle remains by unsuccessfully overcoming and
reconciling with tradition and former dogmas. According to the biblical and patristic
concept, the development of a primacy in communion is to move beyond
centralization to a restoration of the communion of churches within the unity of the

The Importance Of Media Writing
Introduction Authors of the book, Reaching Audiences, 6th Ed. (K. McAdams, J.
Yopp, 2013), describe four essential qualities necessary for effective and
appropriate media writing. Consequently, a four pronged approach must include
accuracy, clarity, completeness, and fairness, within the writing process.
Additionally, professional writers, Katherine McAdams and Jan Yopp, further
explain: Writing that is accurate, clear, complete, and fair has a better chance of
holding audiences, particularly those who might be clicking through websites or
leafing through magazines (2013). Moreover, writers must create engaging articles
as readers are bombarded with competing news stories from a variety of sources, on
a daily basis. Therefore, capturing readers attention is only the beginning of the
intended goal for writers. The next important step is keeping readers engaged by
ensuring there are no grammatical errors; writing in a simple language; satisfying the
reader by answering questions; and, by striving to be objective. In the end, a writers
task is to incorporate the four essential elements of effective and appropriate media
writing within the writing process.
Analyzing News Articles Obviously, business owners and individuals tune in to the
news when the issue of tax cuts is raised by the government. Yet, individuals and
many news reports are skeptical of a tax plan proposed by Congress. While the
administration promises a middle class tax cut, an article published on
businessinsider.com disagrees, as the title exclaims: Here s how the Trump tax plan
would raise taxes on many middle income families (J. Barro, 2017). Effectively,
contents of the proposal as well as its probable effect on businesses and individuals
are reported in debt in the written piece by Josh Barro. As a result, his analysis
confirms that businesses will benefit from the proposed tax cuts. However, upon
further assessment, the final breakdown for individuals is not so positive. In other
words, individual tax payers will see their tax bill increase under the new proposal.
Accordingly, research performed by other online news outlets confirms this reporting,
including; salon.com, washingtonpost.com, cnn.com, and forbes.com. In

Crime And Punishment In The Victorian Era
Crime and Punishment The increase in poverty in the 1800s and the rise of the
industrial revolution had a direct correlation to the escalation of crime throughout
the world. The Victorian Era was harsh on the poor and on those who pushed the
boundaries of the law, meaning that living as a criminal was particularly risky.
Many had no other choice because they had no occupation or job that gave decent
pay. However, there were a good number of rich people who were involved in a
recent surge in new ideas and manufacturing. The culmination of these different
classes resulted in acts of misconduct that included theft and riots and murder in
other cases. To make matters worse the system of justice in place across the world
was not yet refined, especially the Wild West days of America and the United
Kingdom. Victorian England was well known for being rampant with crimeand many
people are well aware of killers like Jack the Ripper having the ability to roam the
streets without proper containment. Policing was of low quality, as was the
detective field. The level of safety was extremely low and many crimes were merely
dismissed as accident or non troublesome. The squalor of life had infested itself into
the homes of the less fortunate who relied solely on poor law relief. When these
people became discontented with their measly handouts, they took it upon themselves
to steal from others. Children became pickpockets and women became shoplifters.
Not only did England

Theories Of Bering Strait Theory
The bering strait theory is named after Vitus Bering. It is also known as the land
bridge theory as well, the theory takes places during the ice age it is said that the
waters of the Bering straits were frozen over and match up, making sea levels lower
which allowed the natives of North America to cross over from Asiavia Siberia. They

The Industrial Age In Upton Sinclair s The Jungle
From 1865 to 1910, the Industrial Age was an interesting time of great economic
growth and prosperity for the United States as a whole, however the American
citizens who worked to push this positive chain of success paved the way and paid
the cost for that very occurrence. In The Jungle, a family from Lithuania travels to the
United States in order to gain a better living than what they had in their home country.
During their time of adjustment to life within the United States, some members of the
Rudkus and Lukoszaite family especially Jurgis Rudkus, experienced extreme
hardship while attempting to develop their lives into a better state for the sake of
their family s wellbeing. Upton Sinclairopens a small window into the lives of
hopeful and hardworking immigrants to reveal how America s Industrialization Age
hindered many from true freedom. This was due to a lack of care for employees and
their wellbeing in the workplace, poor sanitary conditions that led to unhealthy living
conditions for workers, and political corruptionwhich was held over certain citizens
in order to allow corruption to thrive, making workers remain powerless.
Industrialization called for the opening of many different factories for increased
economic boom within America. These factories allowed strenuous jobs to men and
children for poor pay. The Jungleclosely follows Jurgis during his time as a floor
cleaner whose job it is to remove cattle remains following their death. In one example,

The Issue Of Copyrighted Music And Its Illegal
Consumption...
Though it doesn t receive as much attention in terms of media attention and public
discourse as it earlier in the 2000s, the issue of copyrighted music and its illegal
consumption over the internet still continues to be a major issue. With the advent of
the internet, digital music, and mp3 players, one of the drawbacks for many of those
in the music industrywas the subsequent increase in pirated music that occurred. As
illegal torrent sites appeared, such as Napster and Limewire, people were
discovering that they could now download for free what they once paid for. Of
course, as a direct result, music companies and artists both saw a significant
decrease in sales in terms of the physical medium, with CD sales beginning to show
sharp declines. In fact, this had a carryover effects of also closing down many of
the mom and pop record stores that existed, since they did not have the financial
means to withstand a restructuring process. Major chain stores were also not
immune to the decline sales, as some once prominent stores, such as the Virgin
Megastore and the Wall, had to close down. Once Apple Inc. released its iPod and
created the iTunes Store, the music industry was finally beginning to adapt itself to
the digital realm, as Apple began signing agreements with most of the major music
labels to release their songs on a digital platform as well. With songs being available
individually for just $0.99 cents and whole albums able to be purchased, people now

The Theme and Style of Beowulf
Interpretations of Beowulf s theme vary much more than commentary on the poet s
style. In this essay I hope to state clearly some of the popularly mentioned themes
running through the poem, and to carefully delineate many aspects of the author s
style.
Many critics feel that the speech of Hrothgar between lines 1700 and 1784
encapsulates the moral of the poem.... He does not know the worse till inside him
great arrogance grows and spreads (Shippey 38). Is the theme of the poem that pride
kills? Hrothgar s ominous words do come back to haunt the hero more than once.

Civility Vs. Savagery In William Golding s Lord Of The

In the novel Lord of the Flies written by William Golding the novels main theme
was civility versus savagery. The novel is about school boys who get stranded in
an island because the airplane the boys were in was shot down. The only adult
who was the pilot died so the boys had to learn how to survive without any adults.
The schoolboys were aged ranged from 6 to 12 and since there is no adult
supervision the boys vote for a leader which causes conflict with two boys. Things
begin to get out of hand because they are free from any rules resulting in them
acting like savages and forgetting about civilization. The conflict between the two

something they would not do it. All the boys did not care about their appearance
they were not those civilized boys anymore. As the days passed and the boys were
still stranded in the island they would become less civilized. In chapter 7 all the
boy s appearance is not civilized they begin to look like animals: Not one of them
was an obvious subject for a shower, and yet hair, much too long, tangled here and
there, knotted round a dead leaf or a twig (Golding). What this means in terms of
civilization is that the appearances the boys present is symbolizing that they have
no hope and that the boys do not care. They are hiding their feelings inside but are
showing them in the outside by acting like animals and dressing uncivilized. Ralph
and Jack disagree with hunting or being rescued being the main goal. Jack and Ralph

surviving and eating meat. Jack and his hunters become obsessed with hunting that

How Does Magwitch Affect Pip s Relationship
The novel Great Expectations by Charles Dickens is a piece of classic British
literature that depicts the story of a boy named Pip coming out of poverty and
becoming a gentleman only to realize what is truly important in life. Pip is strongly
influenced by his relationships with Joe Gargery, Abel Magwitch, and Herbert Pocket

friendships he develops with Joe, Herbert, and Magwitch.
