WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF EATING?

Eating is important because it provides all the energy, we need to keep active throughout the day.  

  Types of Eating habits 1. Fuel for Performance 2. Emotional Eating 3. Social Eating 4. Eating while watching tv and Sports

Fuel for performance

As eating to optimize energy levels and support physical activity. Eating balanced meal before a sports game or having a healthy snack during long hike.

Why does fueling is important to our body?

They give you energy. They keep your heart beating, your brain active, and your muscles working. They also help to build and strengthen bones , muscles, and other body tissues.

What are the consequences of poor Nutrition?

Poor performance Long recovery Immune suppression Weight changes

Emotional Eating

Occurs when individuals eat in response to their emotions. Such as stress, sadness, boredom or happiness rather than physical activity. It is often driven by the desire to comfort or soothe oneself with food, rather than addressing the underling emotional issues.

Why do we stress eat?

Stress causes high cortisol levels that increases the appetite and may cause as to eat more than we should These food cravings are mostly for sugary or fatty foods Stress also make us release hunger hormones which again leads us release hunger hormones which again leads to overeating

Social Eating

Eating in the company of others during social gatherings. Example: Sharing a meal with family or friends at restaurant, attending party.

What are the effects of social eating?

Social meals are enjoyable, which makes the meal more fun and better tasting , bonds people together. Social eaters are happier in most aspects of their lives . Moreover eating with our families not only binds us to them and is enjoyable but helps us to eat healthier meals.

What are the disadvantage of social eating?

Cost High in calories, fat and sodium Low in fruits and vegetables Weight control/special diets

Watching tv and sports while eating

Eating while watching tv and sports- consuming foods during sedentary activities: watching movies while eating chips.

What happens if you eat while watching TV and Sports?

When you eat while watching television your concentration deviates and thus the brain gets distracted and sends out wrong signals and hence leads to overeating Dinning or eating while watching TV puts you at risk of obesity especially in kids. It not only slows your metabolic rate but also increases your risk of obesity

Reflection Among those four eating habits what did you mostly experience? What happen to your body if you have a poor nutrition? What are your ways to avoid emotional eating?

GROUP ACTIVITY

activity # 1 The student will be grouped in to two groups Each group will be given placards and pictures to locate if it belongs to Fuel for performance eating, Emotional Eating, Social eating, eating while watching tv or sports. The students will be given 8 minutes to do the activity Each group will choose a leader to present the output in front.
