The Missing Painting In a small town museum, a famous painting disappeared overnight. The guard said he heard nothing unusual. Detectives arrived the next morning to investigate. They looked for fingerprints and searched every corner. Soon, they found muddy footprints leading to an open window. The thief had climbed in during the night! Later, a local boy found the missing painting hidden behind the bushes near the park. Everyone praised him for being observant and brave. The museum rewarded the boy with a medal and free tickets for life.

Questions 1. Where did the painting disappear from? 2. Who was on duty that night? 3. What did detectives look for? 4. What clue did they find? 5. How did the thief enter? 6. Who found the painting? 7. Where was it hidden? 8. What did people think of the boy? 9. What reward did he get? 10. What does "observant" mean?

The Secret Garden Door While exploring her grandmother’s backyard, Emma found a small wooden door covered in vines. She pulled the vines away and pushed the door open. Behind it was a secret garden filled with colorful flowers, butterflies, and singing birds. In the center stood a tall tree with a swing. Emma spent the afternoon swinging and collecting petals to show her grandmother. When she returned to the house, she promised to keep the garden a secret between them.

Questions Where did Emma find the door? What covered the door? What did Emma find behind it? What kinds of creatures were in the garden? What stood in the center of the garden? What did Emma do in the garden? What did she collect? Who did Emma want to show the petals to? What did she promise? What word best describes Emma’s discovery?

The Brave Little Turtle Toby the turtle lived in a small pond. One afternoon, a big storm came, and the water began to rise quickly. The waves pushed him far from his home. Toby didn’t give up; he swam hard toward the shore. He saw a frog struggling on a leaf and helped it to safety. When the rain stopped, Toby finally found his way back. All the pond animals cheered for his bravery. From that day on, Toby was known as the little turtle with the biggest heart.

Questions Where did Toby live? What happened during the storm? How did Toby get pushed away? What did Toby do to help another animal? What kind of animal did he save? How did Toby return home? How did the other animals react? What does the word “bravery” mean? What shows Toby had a kind heart? What was Toby called after that day?

The Floating Lanterns Every summer, the river in Lyria glows with floating lanterns. People gather along the banks, each holding a small paper lantern with a candle inside. When the sun sets, they light their lanterns and let them drift on the water. The river looks like a moving field of stars. Mila made a wish for her sick grandmother to get well. As her lantern floated away, she smiled and hoped her wish would come true. The cool breeze carried hundreds of lights down the river, filling the night with peace and hope.

Questions Where do people gather in Lyria? What is inside each lantern? When do they light their lanterns? What does the river look like after sunset? What wish did Mila make? Who was Mila wishing for? How did she feel as her lantern floated away? What carried the lanterns down the river? What filled the night sky? What words best describe the scene?
