DESCRIPTION:
This song-based STEP-BY-STEP LESSON PLAN for ENGLISH language
TEACHING features the song lyrics for The girl that never was (James
Blunt), Closure (Henry Moodie), One More Time (Blink 182), Mess It Up
(The Rollingstones) and Evolution (Sheryl Crow)
Students watch five separate videos with song extracts. The lyrics
appear on the screen with gaps, and their task is to listen and
complete the missing words as they hear them. This activity is perfect
as a review, extra listening practice, reward activity, or just for a good
time! You and your students deserve it! XD
OBS: This lesson plan was made for ONLINE TEACHING, but it can be
modified for face-to-face instruction, as well.

Instructions
There are five song extracts in this activity. Each song
extract has a slide for the students to read and prepare
before they listen to the song to identify the missing words.
IMPORTANT
All the missing words are verbs in the Simple Past tense
affirmative (one in the negative: couldn’t) (regular and
irregular verbs), so it’s a good idea to review this verb tense
by having students give you some examples and write
them on the board before playing the video.
For the activity, Instruct students to write their answers
down on a sheet of paper. It's also a good idea to pause the
video and have students read it. Clarify any doubts about
the vocabulary.

Then play the first song for the students (the extract is
recorded 3 times in a row). Have students check their
answers in pairs, before playing once more and correcting
the exercises. You can also have a group competition to see
which group has more correct answers.

How there was something missing in our lives /A little life
So we tried (2)

But some things you just don't get to decide

Song 2 Closure (Henry Moodie)
You never lied (1), never cheated, never hurt (2) me once
You never tried (3) to mess up my feelings, but you're the
reason that I don't know how to get closure
So, do something I can't get over
Song 3 One More Time (Blink 182)
Strangers, from strangers into brothers
From brothers into strangers once again
We saw (1) the whole world
But I couldn't (2) see the meaning
I couldn't (3) even recognize my friends
Song 4 mess it Up (rhe Rollingstones)
You stole (1) my numbers, you stole (2) my codes
You took (3) my keys and then you nicked my phone
Seduced my landlord, broke (4) in my home
Song 5 Evolution (Sheryl Crow)
I held my baby as the sun came up
And I watched him as he opened up his eyes
What will I tell him when he's old enough
