simpsons script analysis

Slide Content

Style
The media is television and the institution are 20
th
century fox. The Simpsons script follows the
general TV and Film script where there are descriptions of what is going on so the cast and the
audience know what is going on on the screen. There is also dialogue so the cast and the audience
know what is being said at what time. The tv script is not the same as a film script as because the
film script has a few scenes before dialogue setting the scene where as the Simpsons gets straight
into dialogue as it is a tv show so people already know what the scene is as there has been other
episodes.

Content
The Simpsons is one of the most well-known tv shows in the world. It is a family comedy that has
been going for almost 30 years. It aired on December 17
th
, 1989 and has 30 seasons and 654
episodes roughly around 20-25 minutes each. It follows the lives of a carton family called the
Simpsons who live in a town called Springfield.

Genre
The genre for the Simpsons is comedy and it is made for the whole family. It also goes with
buckinghams theory that genres change as it is very different comedy in newer episodes compared
to when it first aired. Also the Simpsons also has hints of action and romance in it while keeping the
main genre comedy.

Target audience

The simpsons doesn’t have a direct target audience as in my opinion it appeals to everyone. This is
because it is light hearted comedy that anyone can laugh at. Also each episode doesn’t carry on from
the last on so you can watch the odd episode and still understand it. It is a great family show, but can
also be watched by children who would find it extremely funny and also by elderly people who
would like the light heartedness in today’s world of tv shows.
