About This Presentation

The skeletal system forms the framework of the human body, providing shape, support, and protection to vital organs. It consists of 206 bones joined by ligaments and supported by cartilage. The system enables movement when muscles pull on bones, stores minerals like calcium and phosphorus, and produ...

Human Skeletal System Subject- Science Lesson Plan no-2 Grade-5 Chapter-2

Muscles There are more than 600 muscles in human body. Muscles are made up of tough elastic tissue. They are attached to the bones by strong fibers called tendons. Muscles help bones to move and make movement of our body possible and smooth.

How do muscles move bone? Muscles can only pull a bone. They can not push the bone . Hence two muscles are required to move a bone in one direction.

To lift the lower arm biceps muscle contract sand gets shorter. Triceps muscle relaxes and gets longer. To move the arm again down the triceps contracts and gets shorter. Biceps muscle relaxes and gets longer. Role of the muscles in moving arm

Types of Muscles Voluntary muscles (Skeletal muscles) Involuntary muscles (smooth muscles) Cardiac muscles

Voluntary muscles (Skeletal muscles) Muscles which are attached to our skeleton are called voluntary or skeletal muscles. These muscles are under our control. These muscles are present in our arms, hands, legs Voluntary muscles help us carry out actions whenever we want to ( at our will ) Function: Movement of skeletal. e.g. movement of limbs, fingers, neck, toes etc.

Involuntary muscles (Smooth muscles) These muscles are not under our control. They are controlled by our nervous system . They are also called as smooth muscles. Function: These muscles are i nvolved in the internal movements of the organs, aiding the passage of fluids and food in the digestive system. Muscles of the stomach, esophagus, diaphragm, walls of blood vessels are involuntary muscles.

Cardiac muscles Our heart is made up of cardiac muscles. These muscles are not attached to any bone. These muscles are also involuntary muscles. Function: These muscles carry out repetitive pumping of blood through heart to all body parts for our entire lifetime.

A . Choose the correct option Muscles are attached to the bones by strong fibers called. a. tendons b. ligaments c. ribs d. joints Ans : tendons Movement of human body is produced by the contraction and relaxation of a. joints b. nerves c. bones d. muscles Ans : muscles 3. We have ________ kinds of muscles in our body. a. three b. two c. five d. four Ans : three

Care of bones and muscles We should take food rich in calcium and phosphorus

Exposing skin to mornin g sunlight helps to synthesize Vitamin D .

Do exercise or yogasana Maintain a good posture

Importance of good posture Posture is a position of our body when we sit, stand and walk. Good posture gives graceful appearance to our body . It keeps our body in proper shape and make us look smart. Good posture keeps our bones, muscles and joints strong.

Importance of Exercise Regular exercise keeps our muscles in good tone. It keeps the bones strong. It helps the lungs, heart and blood vessels to function properly. It supplies extra blood to the brain. Outdoor games are good for wellness of our body and mind.

A . Mark the statement as true or false Good muscles keep our bones , muscles and joints strong. Ans : True Vitamin C is synthesized in our body in presence of sunlight Ans : False 3.
