Appropriate to ability and pupils’ experience and age. Interrelated to the new materials to be learnt. Focusing pupils’ interest and attention. Principles of the skill

Components of the skill Use of previous knowledge ( UPK): Preliminary Attention Gaining ( PAG) Relevance and Continuity of Questions and Answers (RC) Arousing Motivation (AM) Topic Declaration (TD)

Previous knowledge of students refers to the level of achievements from previous experience. Awareness of previous knowledge of the pupils is must before starting the teaching of new content. Testing the previous knowledge of pupils help the teacher to establish integration between the pre-existing knowledge of student and the new knowledge that the teacher wants to impart. Use of Previous Knowledge (UPK)

Preliminary Attention Gaining ( PAG) Gains the attention of the pupils towards his/her teaching by doing some kinds of activities like telling interesting stories, recalling experiences, dramatization or role-playing, using audio-visual aids, etc.

Relevance and Continuity of Questions and Answers (RC) While teaching the lesson the statements to be used must have some relationship with the new contents to be taught. Relevant questions to recall previous knowledge are to be used by the teachers .

Arousing Motivation (AM ) The teacher link the required previous knowledge to the present knowledge with the motivation of introducing a lesson. The teacher should use questions or activities to motivate pupils.

Topic Declaration (TD) The teacher should declare the topic or lesson after introducing the lesson. It indicates the beginning of presentation of the lesson. By the topic declaration the pupils understand what they are going to learn
