What is an adjective?

An adjective is a part of speech that describes a noun or a pronoun.

Examples of Adjectives

Adjectives make sentences interesting and colorful. Without adjectives, sentences are boring. Example : The dog is barking .( without adjective ) The angry dog is barking . ( with adjective ) WHY ARE ADJECTIVES IMPORTANT?

ADJECTIVEs OF QUALITY They tells us what kind of a person, place or a thing is. She is a strong girl. I have a lovely doll. Ex:-

ADJECTIVES OF QUANTITY They tell us how much a thing is intended. I drank some water. He has much money. Ex:-

ADJECTIVES OF NUMBER They tell us how many or in what order persons or things stand. Mili has one pencil . Rohan secured first position in the race.

DEMONSTRATIVE ADJECTIVES They tell which person or thing is meant. These are my books. Those girls are my friends.

INTERROGATIVE ADJECTIVES They are used with nouns to ask questions. Whose book is this? Which way should he take? Ex:-

POSSESSIVE ADJECTIVES They show ownership or belonging. Their house is big. My cat is sleeping .

DISTRIBUTIVE ADJECTIVES These refer to each individual or every person/ thing in a group separately . Each child loves to play. Ex:- Neither book is interesting.

COMPOUND ADJECTIVES A compound adjective is made up of two or more words joined together to describe a noun. Often joined with hyphens. The girl is wearing a sky-blue dress. She is a well-known singer. Ex:-

Possessive Adjectives My, your, his, her, its, our, their. Shows ownership or belonging. Distributive Adjectives Each, every, either, neither Refers to individuals in a group. Compound Adjectives Well- known, sky-blue, five-star, full-length etc. Made by joining two or more words with hyphen.
