2. introduction Social planning is a process for planning social services programs, services, and policies. Government agencies engage in large-scale development, research, and planning to address social problems.  It’s a process in which preventive , protective and controlling measures in solvation of social problems and social resources

3. Meaning Planning gives expression to the idea of intervention and it is a central notion in social development. Advocates of planning contend that social and economic processes can be directed through rational intervention to improve society

4. Definition Merrill and Eldredge : “Social planning is merely organised foresight aimed at accepted goals and based on existing knowledge of skills”

Steps in social planning cycle Analysis of social situation : collection, assessment , interpretation of information related to a factual situation Establishment of objectives and goals: short term and long term plans , general and specific objectives have to be formulated based on problem Assessment of resources: manpower ,money and material ,skills , knowledge and needed technique available, existence of resource and needed will be estimated

Steps in planning cycle Fixing priorities: by priority ranking method the need or magnitude of the problem Alternate plans Programing and implementation Monitoring : day to day follow up activities Evaluation: To access the achievement ,adequacy, efficiency, quality assurance can be made .based on the result modified strategy can be implemented
