A seminar is a form of academic instruction , either at an academic institution or offered by a commercial or professional organization. What is seminar? What is presentation? A presentation is the process of presenting a topic to an audience. It is typically a demonstration , introduction , lecture or speech meant to inform , persuade or build good will.

Types of seminar : Mini Seminar Main Seminar National Seminar International Seminar Importance of seminar : The main goal of seminar presentation for the students is to enhance – Their critical thinking skills. To gain experience in the critical assessment of the available scientific literature. To practice the use of various resources to locate and extract information using offline & online tools , journals. Practice the preparation and presentation of scientific papers and seminars in exhaustive manner

Advantages and disadvantages of seminar Advantages of seminar are : Instructor is able to teach modules that build upon one another. Users gain more expertise than is possible from a single workshop. Consolidated block of time helps focus users attention on seminar topic . Teaching a group help builds peer support network . Users learn skills that they can apply immediately to real information problems. Disadvantages of seminar are : Schedule conflicts hard to avoid. May have to offer multiple times , depending on topic and how after user population turns over. Preparation and teaching takes a lot of hard work.

Objectives To provide the knowledge of natural and social environment It make us know how man can fulfill their needs To develop human qualities in students To know duties towards human society To develop imagination,critical thinking,resoning power in students

Social science as an area of study The curriculum should reflect issues related to nation and national unity along with local issues and perspectives so that local people can relate themselves to nation and national development. In most democratic countries social science make the greatest possible contribution to citizenship education in the broad sense of maximum personal development , human relationship and loyalty to the principles and practices that support freedom. Social science focused more on ‘developmental’ issues. It was proposed that there should be shift of focus from this utilitarian aspect to egalitarianism. Textbooks of social science are not be written as instructive but suggestive. It is not the only source of knowledge but one of the sources. Social science is important because it helps to knowledge structure to prepare the environment of relevant understanding of the role of social science teacher as creative.

Social science as an area of study The curriculum of social at different stage of school education was discussed in the NCF (2005) : During the primary stage of education natural science and social science are integrated as environmental science. At the upper primary stage the students start learning about their regions and country and are introduced to issue like poverty , child , and bonded labour , the functioning of the govt. of local and state level. At the secondary level the students should learn to analyze and think critically about these issues. Contemporary issues posing socio economic challenges are inclueded in the syllabus. In the next stage of higher secondary level the students have the option to choose the subjects from the social science group. This is where academic specialization begins.

Conclusion Social sciences is often taken for non-utility subject with lesser value for job market in comparison of science. It is also considered as inferior to science which is accepted as the domain of bright students. The importance of social sciences should not be ignored. In fact , in areas such as social and primary care , the justice system and business , to name just a few , social science is extremely important and necessary.

Reflection Social science deal with the socio – cultural aspects of human behaviour . It is defined as the scholastic discipline or scientific field that investigate human society , that is man and his relationship with other men environment
