Objectives At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to: Define communication; Value the essence of communication; and, Present a role play depicting different situations showing effective communication.
motivation Begin by playing :Telephone.” have participants sit in a circle. Ask one participant to think of a phrase or sentence. Direct them to whisper it in the ear of the person sitting next to them. Each participant whispers what they think they heard to the next participant next to them. The last participant says the phrase or sentence out loud. Ask the first participant if that was the phrase. Did anything change? Did the message get lost or changed in the translation?
Activity Using the sketch or picture, ask for a student volunteer from the class to assist this demonstration about communication. Explain to the other students that the volunteer is going to describe something to them and their task is to simply follow instructions in sketching out exactly what is described.
Analysis Questions: Is there a communication takes place in the activity? How many of us got confused and just quit listening? Why? Why was the one way communication so difficult to follow? Even two-way communication cannot ensure complete understanding. How can we make our communication efforts more effective?
abstraction Communication is the process of sharing ideas, thoughts and feelings with other people and having those ideas, thoughts and feelings understood by the people we are talking with. When we communicate, we speak, listen and observe. - Communication occurs when a sender expresses an emotion or a feeling, creates an idea or senses, the need to communicate.
application Group activity: make a short presentation depicting different situations. Present how communication works effectively. Group 1: you and your friends are in a concert. Group 2: you are lsot when you meet a group of friends having fun on the road. Group 3: a famous actor/actress visited your village. Group 4: your teacher informed you about your failing grade/marks.
evaluation The students will be provided with a quiz related to topics discussed.
assignment The students are asked to have an advance study of the process of communication as a continuation of the first topic presented on the first day. The students will ask to recite about their understanding of the topic and assess if they find time to research and do their assignment as expected from them.
