This cricketer broke out into the scenes in 2021 and by 2022 became a huge
sensation. He started travelling with his national team thereafter due to a
rare skill not many from his country possesses.
Once after being announced as the POTM in an IPL match he was asked
whether he was getting used to the hot and humid conditions where the
matches were played. To everyone’s surprise, he replied that it usually gets
to 47-48 degree celsius in his hometown so heat was never an issue.
Who is this player?

Arterial Switch is a procedure often done in the first two weeks of a
newborn baby to correct any congenial heart defect. The process involves a
heart surgery followed by a risky move of shifting the patient to the ICU. In
the mid 1990s, in a horrifying instance in UK, seven infants dies in rapid
succession in the shifting process. Alarmed by the situation the hospital
decided to consult people from a different profession after which the error
rate dropped from 30% to 10%.

Monfalcone is a coastal town in Italy. It is the
home of Fincantieri cruise ship building
company. It has recently taken a decision in
order to protect their Italian identity after it
was found that the growing immigrant
Bangladeshi community in that area were
involved in this.
What did they do?

6th August, 2021 was a historic day for Indians as India was back on the
Olympic podium in hockey after 41 years. After the usual congratulatory
tweet, PM Modi took to Twitter once again to announce a historic decision.
Although it was proposed earlier as well, the timing of the announcement was
in sync with the prevailing sentiments of the country.
Although the Congress did welcome the PM’s decision but later accused him
of playing myopic politics.
What was the announcement about ?

Nicolae Ceausescu (image) was an East European
dictator who was known for bringing on regressive acts
on civilians and keeping them under hardcore
surveillance. Even the country’s greatest sportsperson
was unable to escape his policies.
Despite all this, he was conferred with the highest
honour by an international organization in 1985 for
something he did not do.
What is the something he did not do in the previous
year?

Raul is placed sixth on this list with 12179, Ramos is fifth with 12571,
Neuer is fourth with 12975 and Messi is third on the list with 13584.
If with 16189, Ronaldo is placed second then which player tops the list
with 16267 ?
Also what is this list all about?

This was originally initiated by countries like Japan, Philippines and mainland
China. But with Japan invading China, whatever progression was made,
came to a halt and the whole idea was scrapped. A few years later when it
was revived, India was in the forefront of things. However due to funding
issues, the event was postponed. With funds from BCCI and also assistance
from the King of Nepal, India went on to schedule the event on 4th of
March, the next year.
Anthony de Mello, the then BCCI president on being asked whether this is
the greatest moment in Indian sport, replied: “There was never an occasion to
beat that of 4th March”.
What event? Which year?
11

In an India vs England ODI match on 23rd October 2011, in the 4th ball of
the 15th over, Kevin Pietersen hit Varun Aaron for a four through covers.
Known for his enthusiastic signallings, umpire X swung his arms back and
forth with a dramatic flourish to award 4 runs. While majority people at that
moment thought it was as an appreciation for the shot played, it was later
clarified that the extra energy in the flamboyant gesture was attributed to
another sporting achievement at that particular instant by X’s home country
on the other side of the equator.
Who is X? What sporting achievement?
12

Athletes across sports seem to practice an age old tradition of checking
whether the given contents in a certain entity are pure or not. If it is pure,
then some marks are left on the surface. However most athletes have
denied doing it on their own, as it was mostly an obsession of ___________ to
sell it as iconic.
The most famous player you would associate with this activity was being
asked about it, to which he/she replied, “The truth is that it all started as a
joke. But from then on there were always ____________ who were asking me to do
it. I kept doing it and now I have no option but to go on doing so”.
What practice? Which player is being talked about?
13

This lady till a few months ago was the only member in a very elusive list.
Which Indian player recently also joined this list?
What feat needs to achieved to be a part of this list?

In 1982, an European was on a business trip in Thailand. While in the
country, he met with a local businessman where he got introduced to a
product and modified it to suit the Westerners, and founded X along with
him in 1987.
X created a general awareness with a brand myth (statement Y) due to
which they had to face legal problems initially. They however continued to
support their claim and went on to sponsor extreme sports such as Cliff
Diving, Air Racing, Mountain Biking etc creating a cool public image. They
then set into multiple sports teams ownerships, celebrity endorsements and
music.

India won its first ever medal at a global event in this sport only in August
2018, and the athlete responsible for this feat, came from a certain region in
the country which has traditionally produced good athletes in this sport. Ever
since the inception of Khelo India, this region always ends up winning majority
of the disciplines in this sport.
The children here mostly play football and climb coconut and areca nut trees
from a young age due to which their thighs and calves are well developed.
Many sports pundits of India believe that had there not been a major setback
in the region in the early part of 21st century, such results would have been
visible way earlier.

successful in this, as when the name was raised, they were instantly flooded

found the name was not easy to swallow for everyone so they decided not
make it official.

These huge structures called gasometers, mostly
cylindrical, were prevalent in Europe during the 19th
and early 20th centuries. They were used to store
coal gas (town gas) at low pressure for distribution.
Once a common sight in major European cities, these
are now very rare to find.
The transition from coal gas to natural gas in the 1960s led to their decline.
The UK government in 1990s ordered the dismantling of all gasometers within
the next 10 years. Still a few were kept as heritage landmarks or were
repurposed for new uses.
One such gasometer can be seen near a place which is a historic location for
both cricket and football.

Sir G. Alan X (image) was a baronet born in Istanbul
in 1881. He won the British Chess Championship
twice in 1923 and 1934. He was awarded the
International Master title by FIDE in 1950.
Apart from this, he has also reached the
quarterfinals of the singles and the semifinals of the
men's tennis doubles at Wimbledon in 1911.
He was also instrumental in the foundation of a
sport governing body in 1934.
He never represented England in the Davis Cup. Also he never married so the
hereditary X baronetcy ended on his death. So you might say as a tribute, his name
was immortalized in a different way. India tasted success in that event in the 2020s
and that’s how most of us got to know about him. Put Funda
