St. Catherine of Siena
was born in Sienna,
Italy, on March 25,
1341.
She died in 1380 in
Rome, Italy, on April 29.
St. Catherine of Siena is
the patron Saint of Italy
and fire preventions.
Her Feast Day is April 29
and she was canonized
in 1461.
Catherine's mother had twenty-three children.
At the age of six, Catherine saw a vision of Christ
above the Church.
She wanted to be Christ’s wife and therefore, she
remained unmarried.
She told Pope Gregory XI, who was living in
France, to go back to Rome where the church
should be.
Saint Catherine of Siena was important to us
because she was a fearless saint who was not
afraid to fight for what she believed in.
St. Catherine of Siena joined the Third Order
of Dominicans. They were women who are
like nuns, but they chose to live in their own
homes.
St. Catherine bore the stigmata, the wounds
of Christ on herself, invisible to all until her
death.
