Student led conferences are a conversation between children, parents and teachers that is focussed on recent learning. Children need to know exactly what they have learnt and be able to describe this to others . Children showing ownership of their learning. Time to celebrate children’s learning Focus on achievement and progress

Children are at the centre of learning Children share what they are learning and what they need to continue working on Children are active participants in talking about learning Opportunity for parents to view work, listen to and support children with their learning Provide more time for parents to talk about learning

Parents and children can be in the classroom for 30 minutes Children will share a range of curriculum areas Teachers will answer questions from the mid year report and discuss progress Three families in the room with one family talking to the teacher at a time

Student Led Conferences Broomfield School Active, Innovative, Collaborative Up to 3 families in thirty minutes Enter the classroom at the allocated time Check the door to see when you are timetabled to talk with your child’s teacher Take a parent prompt card to help support your child with discussion of their learning 20 minutes of sharing and celebrating learning with your child 10 minutes teachers sharing information about progress Families in different areas of the class Families moving around the class What does it look like?

Student Led Conferences Broomfield School Active, Innovative, Collaborative Three in 30… IS Focussed on learning A time for your child to lead you through their learning A time to find a spot in the classroom to enjoy listening to your child A time to walk around the room and discuss the work your child has created and presented IS NOT About behaviour, social or family issues – another time can be made to discuss these

Absolutely – you have an allocated time in the 30 minutes Will my child know what to do and what to share? Yes, teachers discuss on a regular basis the progress children are making and what they need to work on next Children will have time to practice in class Parents will have a prompt card to support the discussion

Student Led Conferences Broomfield School Active, Innovative, Collaborative Questions Will the other families hear us during our discussion with the teacher? Teachers will set up the classroom thinking about proximity to each other Parents will be focussed on their own child’s learning Families will show the value of Belonging by being respectful of the conversations around them Background music may be playing Can I bring my other children? We will have a supervised dvd running in the library, please drop siblings off so you can focus on one child at a time. I have three / four children at school… Return your booking form with your preferred times. We will contact you with shortened times if you prefer so you will not need to be at school for 1 ½ - 2 hours.
