Introduction to SRP T he student ready was launched by the honourable prime minister of I ndia on 25th J uly, 2015. The concept is to reorient graduates of agriculture and allied subjects for ensuring and assuring employability and develop entrepreneurs for emerging knowledge intensive agriculture. T he student Ready (rural entrepreneurship awareness development yojana) programme(SRP) is a initiative by ICAR to impose graduates of Agriculture. It aims to provide rural entrepreneurship awareness, practical experience in real-life situation in agriculture and allied enterprises to the undergraduate students by keeping themselves physically present in rural situation and interacting personally with various stakeholders. T he programme aims at building confidence, developing skill and acquiring knowledge about local field situation of the farmers and the locality.

Observation Village- Ratanpura Block – Bonli District – Sawai madhopur State – Rajasthan Soil Type – Sandy loam(Mainly), Black,Red Agro climatic zone – Zone III-B of Rajasthan(Flood Prone Eastern Plain) Growing Crops – Pearl millet,Groundnut,Wheat , Mustard, Chickpea, Tomato, Brinjal Fruit plantation – Guava,Aonla Mostly Farmers are Marginal and Small Irrigation Source is Tube well, Well , Rainfed Farmers used mainly Fertilizers like-Urea, DAP, FYM Only few about 2-3% will have ideas about SHC,KCC etc. Maximum Farmer practice only subsistence farming.(Only for family livelihood) & adopt agriculture as a traditional family under taking. Problem Faced by the Farmers Most small farmers have no reach to the agricultural institution for help so they seldom get any benefits from the schemes/programmes. Soil testing is not conducted properly. Small land holdings limit the farmers from use of machinery. Destruction of crops by nilgai High cost of fertilizer Unavailability of good quality seed Poor Mechanization Loss of crop yield due to attack of insect and pest Losses due to Crop diseases “ Mandies are a headache. The system is utterly mismanaged and influenced by powerful people, there are daily fights at the mandies ” Lack of transport facilities

The new Speed Breeding (Speed Breed) facility at ISARC can rapidly grow rice plants in special growth chambers using controlled protocols for optimal light intensity and spectrum, day length, temperature, humidity, and CO2. This will reduce the overall plant growth period by inducing early flowering and maturity. With Speed Breed facility we can take up to 4-5 generations per year instead of 1-2 generations under normal field conditions. Also, it can be used in many other mandated crops of NARES. The prime objective of establishment of NSRTC is to have a separate National Seed Quality Control Laboratory, which serves as a Central Seed Testing Laboratory (CSTL) w.e.f. 1st April, 2007 by Gazette Notification No. REGD.NO. D.L-33004/99 dated: 8th March, 2007. Organizational Structure

Presently CSTL is testing approximately 20,000 seed samples per year and performs at par with ISTA, Switzerland (International Seed Testing Association) with regard to germination test. Conclusion Through this Student ready Programme (SRP) , we got the practical and ground zero exposure to the real status of farmer and their practices. SRP enabled me to develop entrepreneurial skills and boosted up my confidence. So, it will help me to be a job provider instead job seeker .
