The Earth-Our Living Planet PPT Name of the student teacher : Pooja Benachamaradi Subject : Social science(Geography) The Earth-Our Living Planet Sub-unit : Size & Shape Of Earth
. Student’s previous knowledge :- They already know about the existence of Earth. Sources Consulated :- Social Science Text book 8 th std. General Objectives :- Knowledge : Students have already known about the Earth & Planets. Understanding : Students understand the Living components of Earth. Skill : Students acquire the knowledge that Earth is the living Planet containing Biotic factors in them. Application :Students learn about various living forms on Earth. Specific Objectives :- Knowledge : Students recall about Earth & its habitats. Understanding : Students explain & describe about various components of Earth, Its Size, Shape & also the distribution of Water. Application : Students learn about the Latitudes, Longitudes, Local Time, Standard Time, International Date line & also Oceans of Map. Content Analysis :- Introduction – Names of the Earth Size of the Earth Shape of the Earth
Introduction Names of the Earth- Our Planet, Watery Planet, Blue Planet, The Living Planet etc. Size of the Earth 5 th largest, suitable for living beings, presence of Atmosphere, Water cycle,, Sunlight, Supporting gases. Diameter – 4 times moon, 107 times greater than Sun, Total area- 510 sq.kms , 70.78% of water, 29.22% of land . Ratio – (land)1:2.43(water). This forms the Unequal distribution.
Shape of the Earth Geoid , Oblate, Spheroid, Flattened at Poles & Bulged at Equator. Equator Diameter- 12,756kms, Polar diameter- 40,008 kms . This difference of 42 kms is responsible for the Geoid shape. Land distribution 7 Continents :- Asia(largest), Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe, Australia. 4 Major Water bodies :- Pacific Ocean(largest), Atlantic Ocean, Indian Ocean, Arctic Ocean.
Evaluation The total geographical area of Earth is ____ . The Shape of the Earth is ____ . The 4 major Oceans are____,____,____ & ____ . ____ is the largest Continent of Earth. The Earth has different names such as ____,____&____ .
Key answers 510 million sq.kms Geoid Pacific, Atlantic, Indian & Arctic Asia Blue Planet, Watery Planet & The Living Planet.
Students previous knowledge : Students already know about the existence of Earth. Sources consulated : Social Science text book 8 th std General Objectives Knowledge : Students have already known about Planets. Understanding : Students Understand the Living Components of Earth. Application : Students acquire knowledge that Earth is the Living Planet containing Biotic factors in them. Specific Objectives Knowledge : Students recall about Earth & its different names of being a Living Planet. Understanding : Students explain & describe about the Latitudes & Longitudes on the Earth. Application : Students Understand the facts about Standard times, Local & International Date lines. Content Analysis Latitudes & Longitudes Important Latitudes Local time, Standard time, Time zones International Date Line (IDL)
Latitudes & Longitudes Latitudes - Imaginary lines which run horizontally from east to west on Earth. Longitudes - Imaginary lines which run vertically from north to south on Earth. Important Latitudes : 0⁰ - Equator 23⅟ 2 ⁰N - Tropic of Cancer 23⅟ 2 ⁰S - Tropic of Capricorn 66⅟ 2 ⁰N- Arctic Circle 66⅟ 2 ⁰S - Antarctic Circle 90⁰N - North pole 90⁰S - South pole 180⁰ - Greenwich meridian
Local time – Local place Meridian at that place Standard Time – At India 82⅟ 2 ⁰ Longitude, Allahabad, U.P Total time zones – 24( 3-4 hrs difference between each zones) IDL (International Date Line) - 180⁰ meridian. Date & Days change when we travel from one country to another. Geographical conditions describe Time zones & also Date Lines. Latitudes are responsible for Days & Longitudes are responsible for Time.
Evaluation The imaginary lines which run horizontally on earth are called ____. The Abbreviation of IDL is ____. Longitudes are mainly responsible for ____. The important Latitudes are____,____,____ &____. ____ Latitude forms the Greenwich Meridian.
Key answers Latitudes International Date Line Time changing 4) 23⅟ 2 ⁰N - Tropic of Cancer,23⅟ 2 ⁰S - Tropic of Capricorn,66⅟ 2 ⁰N- Arctic Circle,66⅟ 2 ⁰S - Antarctic Circle. 5) 180⁰
