It is a culminative achievement awarded to students at the end of Year 10 and Year 11, before the HSC Students are awarded an A-E grade for each course in Years 10 and 11 based on moderated school assessments. There are no external examinations – all assessments and examinations are school based. Students are eligible for a RoSA if they complete Year 10 and complete courses that satisfy NESA curriculum and assessment requirements. Potentially may be used for early entry to university and scholarship applications. What is the RoSA ?

Student in Years 9 and 10 are required to study the mandatory subjects of : English Mathematics Science Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) Geography History Religious Education (non-RoSA) Students at KWS complete three additional subjects (electives) across Years 9 and 10: 25 electives to choose from: - 12 x 200-hour (2 year) courses - 13 x 100-hour (single year) courses Stage 5 Pattern of study at kws

Elective courses are usually 100 or 200 hours in Stage 5 At Kinross Wolaroi School, students will select ONE 200-hour course and TWO 100-hour courses The 200-hour course will be studied across Years 9 and 10 Students will study ONE 100-hour course in Year 9 and select a new 100-hour course for Year 10 Students cannot select the same 100-hour course twice or choose a 100-hour course similar to a 200-hour course. For example, a student cannot study 200-hour Agriculture and select 100-hour Agriculture in either year. Elective Courses

How Do I Decide which ELECTIVES are best for me? Research your choices – read the information and watch the videos on the Online Subject Selection site. It’s important to consider: Your interests and what you enjoy studying. Subjects that you have an aptitude for and can succeed at. Subjects that will give you a good understanding and foundation to succeed in Years 11 and 12. (consider pre-requisites). Don’t choose electives because your friends are choosing them. Stage 5 is a good opportunity to try something new. INTEREST + ACHIEVEMENT = SUCCESS

Will I be able to study the electives I choose? Whilst every effort is made to ensure that students are able to undertake the study of their selected electives, KWS cannot guarantee that every elective will run or that every possible combination of electives can be timetabled. Practical electives have a maximum number of students per class due to equipment and safety restrictions It is essential that you select your electives in PRIORITY ORDER, as this will be one of the considerations when allocating classes.
