1. WHAT DOES IT TAKES TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN MINISTRY? Colossians 2:24-29

2. Does it seem to you that being successful in the ministry is never an easy thing to do?

3. The highest service that man may attain to on earth is to preach the Word of God. This services falls peculiarly to priests and therefore demands it of them. And for this cause, Jesus Christ left other works and occupied himself mostly in preaching, and thus did his apostles, and for this God loved them. - John Wycliffe

4. PASSAGE CONTEXT: To refute the heresy that was beginning to infiltrate the church; To give them practical instructions in deepening their walk with Christ, and To update them on his current situation.

5. Because of the complete supremacy of Christ over human philosophy and tradition, Christians should: Be complete in Christ; Be aware of the danger of false teaching, and Behave in a way that will glorify God.

6. What it takes to be successful in ministry is… Suffering (v. 24) Service (v. 25-27) Discipling (v. 28) Struggle (v.29)

7. 1. IF YOU WANT TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN MINISTRY, YOU MUST BE WILLING TO SUFFER FOR JESUS CHRIST AND HIS BODY. It reads, “Now I rejoice in my suffering for your sake, and in my flesh I am filling up what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the church.” Colossians 1:24

8. 2. IF YOU WANT TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN MINISTRY, YOU MUST BE WILLING TO SERVE THROUGH FULLY PREACHING THE WORD. A leader who loves people devotes his life serving them, this attitude leads ultimately to success. A leader who does not love people spends his life using them, this attitude leads ultimately to failure.

9. 2. IF YOU WANT TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN MINISTRY, YOU MUST BE WILLING TO SERVE THROUGH FULLY PREACHING THE WORD. So we tell others about Christ, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all the wisdom God has given us. We want to present them to God, perfect in their relationship to Christ. Colossians 1:28

10. 3. IF YOU WANT TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN MINISTRY, YOU MUST BE WILLING TO WORK HARD AND STRUGGLE. The struggle never ends. Paul’s struggle was to lead others into a life-changing relationship with Jesus, and, like Walter Pyton , he refused to let up until he died.

11. That is what success really is. It is not about living an easy life; it is about living a great life. But if you want to succeed, you must be willing to suffer , you must be willing to serve , you must be willing to disciple , and you must be willing to struggle .
