Surah At-tin Created by: Banan Mahmaljy Obeid

I swear by the fig and the olive وَٱلتِّينِ وَٱلزَّيۡتُونِ Ayah #1 This Surah starts with an oath (attention grabber) Allah swears by 4 things. Each one represents a special place & person Classical A rabs used to nickname places based on what they were known for. T he fig might be a reference to Bilad Al Sham region – Syria/Iraq- close to where the ark of Nuh landed. T his could be referring to Prophet Nuh . Olive trees are known to grow in Palestine. T his could be referring to Prophet Isa.

And the mountain of Sinai وَطُورِ سِينِينَ This is the holy mountain where Musa (AS) spoke to Allah (SWT) Ayah #2

And this is the safe land This is a reference to the city of Mecca, so this may refer to P. Muhammad (S ) وَهَـٰذَا ٱلۡبَلَدِ ٱلۡأَمِينِ Ayah #3

The 4 oaths follow Bani Israel's journey through the lands, starting with P. Ibraheem, continuing with his children , Ishaq and Ismaeel, then P. Musa, and ending in Mecca with Muhammad (S). 4 Lands 4 Prophets

Surely, we created the human in the best form Allah created us in a balanced way. Physically , we stand upright on 2 legs. We have 2 arms, 2 eyes and 2 ears. Spiritually , Allah gave us the balance of intellect and emotions. He did this by giving us a brain and a heart with which to make choices. Ayah #4 Look how Allah protected the 2 most important things in our bodies. Our brain- protected by a hard skull. Our heart- protected by our rib cage.

Then we reduced him to the lowest of the low Meaning #2: Some humans can act so badly that they drop themselves to a level that’s lower than animals . ( Even though Allah is capable of stopping them in their misguidance, He allows them to make their own choices.) Meaning #1: Here Allah (S) describes the tragedy that affects humans. One meaning is that we were created to deteriorate. Our capabilities start to diminish: Our eyesight gets weaker. Our hearing gets weaker Our bodies get older. Our strength diminishes.

Except those who believed and did good deeds, they will have endless rewards 1. Their reward is never ending in the after life. 2. The effects of the good they do in this life could continue until the end of time. EX: We are Muslims today because of the good work done by the Prophets alluded to in the beginning of the Surah. These are the people who lived up to their potential. They used their strength, intellect, and resources to do good and benefit others. Ayah #6 P. Nuh, Musa, Isa & Muhammad (S)

What makes you disbelieve in the Day of Judgement (after that) ? In this Ayah, Allah is talking to the human. He asks us a question to help us think, and realize that even though we were created with intellect, sometimes we don’t use it . Ayah #7 What’s a reason that might cause people to deny the existence of the Day of Judgment?

Isn’t Allah (S) the fairest judge? This is a rhetorical question where Allah wants us to realize that He is the most suitable to judge us all. He is the only judge who knows everyone’s thoughts, feelings, desires, and actions. Denying the Day of Judgment means you are accusing Allah of not being fair. If he allowed people to get away with the bad things they do on Earth, then He would not be fair.

Summary Allah sent his Wisdom and his laws to the lands of the Prophets. Their people denied Allah’s existence, yet Allah spread his religion throughout the land. Allah created us with the potential to do good, and this was exemplified by the Prophets. Those who followed their teachings succeeded, and those who rejected them became the lowest of the low. In the end, Allah will judge us all.
