2. TAUHEED Introduction لا إله إلا الله “There is no God, but Allah.” The doctrine of unity or the One-ness of God is the pivot around which the whole system of Islam revolves. Allah other beliefs culminate on this belief and according to it: Allah is One. He alone is the Creator, Capital, Sustainer and the Master. He is Just, Eternal, and has full Command over the whole world. Its only Him, who is worthy to be praised and worshipped. Allah is unique and non-parallel in His being as well as His attributes.

TAUHEED Introduction Earlier Divine Books of Allah too preached the Unity of God, but due to the interpretations made in the test of the scriptures and inclusion of facts against the principle of Tauheed , the divine teachings were changed. So Allah sent His Last Prophet (SAWW) to set people on the right path again. وَّ هُوَ عَلٰى كُلِّ شَىۡءٍ وَّكِيۡل اَللّٰهُ خَالِقُ كُلِّ شَىۡءٍ‌ٌ “Allah is Creator of all things and He is guardian over all things.” (Surah Az Zumar : 62) اللہ ہر چیز کا پیدا کرنے والا ہے، اور وہ ہرچیز کا مختار ہے ، ترجمہ:

4. TAUHEED ATHEISTS People who do not believe in God or religion are called atheists. It is astonishing to note in the contemporary world that their number is increasing instead of declining. How unfortunate is the fact that some highly educated Muslims are also accepting these false beliefs that they are not greater in number. Today, it is the world of fashion and atheism has also somewhat become a fashion. Presently, Muslim Ummah is facing two main challenges: Proof of the existence of God Proving that Allah is just One-Unity of Allah About Atheists, Allah says in Holy Quran: اَمۡ خُلِقُوۡا مِنۡ غَيۡرِ شَىۡءٍ اَمۡ هُمُ الۡخَـالِقُوۡنَؕ کیا یہ کسی کے پیدا کئے بغیر ہی پیدا ہوگئے ہیں۔ یا یہ خود (اپنے تئیں) پیدا کرنے والے ہیں ترجمہ:  وَقَالُوۡا مَا هِىَ اِلَّا حَيَاتُنَا الدُّنۡيَا نَمُوۡتُ وَنَحۡيَا وَمَا يُهۡلِكُنَاۤ اِلَّا الدَّهۡرُ‌ؕ وَمَا لَهُمۡ بِذٰلِكَ مِنۡ عِلۡمٍ‌ ۚ اِنۡ هُمۡ اِلَّا يَظُنُّوۡنَ ‏ اور کہتے ہیں کہ ہماری زندگی تو صرف دنیا ہی کی ہے کہ (یہیں) مرتے اور جیتے ہیں اور ہمیں تو زمانہ مار دیتا ہے۔ اور ان کو اس کا کچھ علم نہیں۔ صرف ظن سے کام لیتے ہیں

5. TAUHEED Logical Arguments to Prove the Existence of Allah There are many logical arguments which can prove the existence of Allah! Some of them are discussed below:- 1. Extension of Imam Abu Hanifa’s argument :- Someone asked Abu Hanifa to prove the existence of Allah, he said: “I observe a strange phenomenon today while I was standing on the bank of river. I saw the the tree falling, turning into plants, and these plants joined automatically to form a boat and the boat started sailing in the river by itself.” The person disdainfully denounced the argument, upon which Abu Hanifa replied: “If a boat cannot be built automatically, then how the whole world would come into existence by itself? God is present and He created this universe.”

6. TAUHEED WHO Created Allah? If we present Imam Abu Hanifa’s argument to them, many atheists can respond like: “If nothing can be created without a Creator, then who created Allah? Like everything, Allah must be created by someone ( Nauzubillah ).” The answer to this question is that: Lets suppose “someone = X” created universe and “another one = y” created “X”. Y -> created X -> created Universe Then who created “Y”? This chain can be stretched back as long as an atheist wants but he would agree that there would certainly be an end of this chain. The end was at a supreme entity who would be the creator of everything. That supreme entity is “Allah Almighty”.

7. TAUHEED WHO Created Allah? Allah (SWT) asserts in the Quran that:  اَفِىۡ اللّٰهِ شَكٌّ فَاطِرِ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالۡاَرۡضِ‌ؕ “Can there be doubt concerning Allah, the Creator of the heavens and the Earth.” (Surah Ibrahim: 10) ان کے پیغمبروں نے کہا کیا (تم کو) خدا (کے بارے) میں شک ہے جو آسمانوں اور زمین کا پیدا کرنے والا ہے۔ ترجمہ : One another incident in Quran, Allah says: “Allah is He who created the Heavens and the Earth and caused water to descend from the sky, thereby producing fruits as food for you, and made ships to be of service onto you that they may run upon the sea at His commands and has made the sun and moon, constant in their courses to be of service onto you, and has made of service onto you the night and the day.” (Surah Ibrahim: 32-33) اللہ ہے جس نے آسمان اور زمین بنائے اور آسمان سے پانی اتارا تو اس سے کچھ پھل تمہارے کھانے کو پیدا کیے اور تمہارے لیے کشتی کو مسخر کیا کہ اس کے حکم سے دریا میں چلے (ف۷۸) اور تمہارے لیے ندیاں مسخر کیں ، اور تمہارے لیے سورج اور چاند مسخر کیے جو برابر چل رہے ہیں (ف۸۰) اور تمہارے لیے رات اور دن مسخر کیے

8. TAUHEED Logical Arguments to Prove the Existence of Allah 2. Special Creation: Hen vs. Egg Mystery : There are two different theories regarding the diversity of life on Earth. i) Theory of Evolution : All living beings are evolved from some pre-existing organisms, and organisms were not specially created by any God rather they evolved from some primitive unicellular organisms. Question arises Where does those unicellular organisms come from? The scientists would give you many absurd answers! Those answers would just be speculations which would not satisfy you because the true answer is that the God created every kind of living organisms and they did not evolve. They were specially created by Allah.

9. TAUHEED Logical Arguments to Prove the Existence of Allah 2. Special Creation: Hen vs. Egg Mystery : ii) Theory of Special Creation : Another theory is present and this is the theory that Islam preaches. That Allah created everything that is living on Earth. “Which comes first, hen or egg?” This question has been confusing the scientists for long! But recently scientists have discovered that there is specific protein called Ovocedidin-17, which is only present in the ovaries of hen and the egg of hen also contains it. The egg cannot survive without this special protein. Hence, hen is necessary for the existence of egg. Now, w here did the hen come from? The answer is that it was specially created by Allah Almighty. This scientific theory strongly proves the existence of God. And Allah says in Quran, “Verily, We have created everything with a measure.” (Surah Qamar : 49) . بیشک ہم نے ہر چیز ایک اندازہ سے پیدا فرمائی ترجمہ :

10. TAUHEED Logical Arguments to Prove the Existence of Allah iii) Character of Holy Prophet (SAWW ): History is evident of the fact that Holy Prophet (SAWW) never lied. People of Arabia blindly believed him even before his declaration of Prophethood . They used to call him SAADIQ (the one who always speaks the truth) and AMEEN (the one who keeps the belongings of other people with utmost honesty. Even in international practice, people of honesty, righteousness and clean history hold enormous evidential value, today. Then, how come one an deny anything said by Holy Prophet (SAWW) be denied. He preached “ Tauheed ” and we certainly will have to accept on the bans of a known truth that he never lied. iv) Discipline and Order of the Universe : Can human beings create anything like universe? Can human beings create even the smallest particles like electron, proton, neutron, or even Quartz? Can he even create a verse of Allah’s Quran? He could not! He cannot!

11. TAUHEED CONCEPTUAL PROOF: ONLY ONE GOD, ALLAH If there had been more than one Gods, there would have been chaos and complete disorder in the universe. But we do not see anything like this and everything is going smoothly. If there were more than one Gods, they would have conflict of interests, which would have lead to the destruction of the whole universe. As Allah himself says, لَوۡ كَانَ فِيۡهِمَاۤ اٰلِهَةٌ اِلَّا اللّٰهُ لَـفَسَدَتَا‌ۚ  “Had there been in them (Earth & Heaven) any other Gods except Allah, they would have certainly been ruined.” (Surah Anbiya : 22) . اگر آسمان و زمین میں اللہ کے سوا اور خدا ہوتے تو ضرور وہ (ف۴۰) تباہ ہوجاتے ترجمہ :

TAUHEED CONCEPTUAL PROOF: ONLY ONE GOD, ALLAH At another place, Allah confirms, لَآ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا هُوَ الرَّحۡمٰنُ الرَّحِيۡمُ “There is no God, but He (Allah), the beneficent, the Merciful.” (Surah Al Baqarah : 162) .  اس کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں مگر وہی بڑی رحمت والا مہربان So there is only one God and He is Allah Almighty. Everything is following His Orders in a disciplined manner. There are His signs in everything including human beings. Human beings could even not make a camera that would match human eye. Allah says in Quran, “It is not for Sun to overtake moon, nor can the night outstrip the day. They float each in an orbit.” ( Yasin : 40) نہ تو سورج ہی سے ہوسکتا ہے کہ چاند کو جا پکڑے اور نہ رات ہی دن سے پہلے آسکتی ہے۔ اور سب اپنے اپنے دائرے میں تیر رہے ہیں

TAUHEED CONCEPTUAL PROOF: ONLY ONE GOD, ALLAH At another place in Holy Quran, Allah says: “Surely, in the Creation of heavens and earth and in alternations of days and nights, there are signs for the men of understanding.” ( Aal e Imran: 190) . بے شک آسمانوں اور زمین کی پیدائش اور رات اور دن کے بدل بدل کے آنے جانے میں عقل والوں کے لیے نشانیاں ہیں Allah also says: “And in the Earth, there are signs for those having firm faith. And also in yourselves. Do you see?” (Surah Al Zariat : 20-21) اور یقین کرنے والوں کے لئے زمین میں (بہت سی) نشانیاں ہیں اور خود تمہارے نفوس میں تو کیا تم دیکھتے نہیں؟

14. TAUHEED CONCEPT OF TAUHEED IN ISLAM If someone has to enter in the ambit of Islam, he/she will have to recite the first K alma of Islam, which is the basic acceptance of Tauheed , whereas the first part of the Kalama e Tayyaba says: لا إله إلا الله “There is no Ma’bood (God), except Allah.” So Tauheed has the central value in Islam without it, no one can enter Islam and when someone stops believing in it, he/she no longer remains in Islam. Definition : Tauheed in Islam is to believe in the Oneness of Allah in the following three things: Tauheed related to Oneness of Allah’s being Tauheed related to its attributes Tauheed related to the implications of His attributes

15. TAUHEED CONCEPT OF TAUHEED IN ISLAM First and foremost doctrine in Islam- Tauheed . Literal meaning: To believe in Oneness Oneness of Self Oneness of Attributes Oneness in Implications of Attributes Allah is only one being. He has no father and he has no progeny. Nor he has any partner. He is Omnipresent and Almighty. Allah has certain attributes, which belongs to Him, only. Those attributes are not present in any other beings. Example: Al- Khaliq means, the Creator. He is the only One, who is the Creator of everything. Belief in One self and attributes of Allah is not enough. We should practically show it though our actions and worship that only He is the one, who is worthy to be bowed.

16. TAUHEED TAUHEED related to Allah’s Being This means that there is neither plurality of God, nor the plurality of persons in Godhood. Allah is neither the father of Hazrat Uzair (AS), Hazrat Esa (AS) or anyone else nor He has any father. There is One being, who was there when nothing was there and who would be there when nothing would be there and He would be ALLAH! Allah himself says in Surah Ikhlas , وَلَمۡ يَكُنۡ لَّهٗ كُفُوًا اَحَدٌ وَلَمۡ يُوۡلَدۡۙ لَمۡ يَلِد اللّٰهُ الصَّمَدُ قُلۡ هُوَ اللّٰهُ اَحَدٌ‌ۚ‏ “Say, He is Allah, (who is) One, Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born. Nor is to Him any equivalent.” (Surah Ikhlas ) کہو کہ وہ (ذات پاک جس کا نام) الله (ہے) ایک ہے معبود برحق جو بےنیاز ہے نہ کسی کا باپ ہے اور نہ کسی کا بیٹا اور کوئی اس کا ہمسر نہیں In Surah Baqarah , Allah again says: “There is no God, but He (ALLAH), the Beneficent, the Merciful.”

17. TAUHEED ii) Tauheed in attributes of Allah Allah’s inmate name is “ALLAH”. This is known as “ Ismauazzat ”. Other beautiful names of Allah which show certain attributes of Allah are called “ Asma-ul-Hasna ”. Some of them are:- Other than these, there are many other which are mentioned in Quran and Tauheed in attributes means to believe that no one else possess these attributes other than Allah. Even if some people possess little bit of these attributes, they were blessed by Allah with them because: لَيۡسَ كَمِثۡلِهٖ شَىۡ “Nothing is like Him.” (Surah Shura : 11) . اس جیسا کوئی نہیں ترجمہ:  الخالق The Creator الْقَادِرُ All powerful الْهَادِي The Guide الرَّزَّاقُ The Sustainer الْحَيُّ Eternally Alive

18. TAUHEED ii) Tauheed in attributes of Allah Allah further explains His Attributes in Ayat-ul-Kursi as: Allah! there is no God except Him. The Everlasting. The Sustainer of (All) existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him, nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the Heavens and whatever is o n Earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission. He knows what was before them and what will be after them and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the Heavens and the Earth. Their (of Heavens and of Earth) preservation does not tire Him. And He is the Most High, the most Great. (Al Baqarah : 255)

19. TAUHEED iii) Tauheed in Implications of His Attributes It means that we should practically be accepting the attributes of Allah as exclusive to Him. For Example: If we believe that ALLAH is “Al- Razzaq ” then we should not be bowing before anyone for our food or other things. If we believe that ALLAH is “ Illah ” which means worthy to be worshipped then we should be worshipping only Him and not anyone else. And Allah himself instructs people to worship only Him: اَلَّا تَعۡبُدُوۡۤا اِلَّاۤ اِيَّاهُ “And you should worship only Him.” (Surah Isra : 23) . اس کے سوا کسی کی عبادت نہ کرو ترجمہ:

20. TAUHEED Impacts of Tauheed in Human Life When someone starts believing in the Oneness of ALLAH, firmly; following impacts are created in his life via this belief. i) Love for Allah : “The men whom neither any merchandise nor any business distracts from remembrance of Allah.” (Al-Noor: 37) (یعنی ایسے) لوگ جن کو خدا کے ذکر اور نماز پڑھنے اور زکوٰة دینے سے نہ سوداگری غافل کرتی ہے نہ خرید وفروخت۔ وَالَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡٓا اَشَدُّ حُبًّا “The people who believe have extreme love for Allah.” (Al- Baqarah : 165) . اور ایمان والوں کو اللہ کے برابر کسی کی محبت نہیں ترجمہ:

21. TAUHEED Impacts of Tauheed in Human Life ii) Broader vision and Prospicience iii) Self Respect : يہ ايک سجدہ جسے تو گراں سمجھتا ہے ہزار سجدے سے ديتا ہے آدمی کو نجات iv) Humility and Humbleness v) Ethics and Moral values vi) Patience : “Surely; Allah is with those, who are patiently steadfast.” (Al Baqarah : 155) . صبر کرنے والوں کو (خدا کی خوشنودی کی) بشارت سنا دو ترجمہ :

22. TAUHEED Impacts of Tauheed in Human Life vii) Bravery : وَلَا خَوۡفٌ عَلَيۡهِمۡ وَلَا هُمۡ يَحۡزَنُوۡنَ “They are neither afraid, nor aggrieved.” (Al- Baqarah : 62) . ان کو نہ کسی طرح کا خوف ہوگا اور نہ وہ غم ناک ہوں گے ترجمہ : viii) Trust in Allah and Optimism : “And believers should pu t their full trust in Allah.” (Al Baqarah : 165) (was not able to find urdu translation in the verse)

23. TAUHEED Impact on Collective Life i) Equality : “Oh People, Your Lord is One and certainly your father is One. There is no preference to an Arab over non-Arab and non-Arab over Arab; white over black and black over white but only due to Taqwah .” ( Khutba e Hajjat ul Widda ) ii) Unity and Brotherhood : “Certainly, all Muslims are brother.” (Al-Quran) iii) Peace : Equality + Unity = Peace + Accountability

24. TAUHEED Opposite of Tauheed : Shirk The arabic word “shirk” means “to share”. In religious sense, it means attributing partners with Allah, that is if a person consider someone else as a sharer in the Being of ALLAH, his attributes and in the implications of his attributes, he is a Mushrik , an Infidel, or Kaa’fir . Shirk is not only idolatry but also offering prayers and supplications to anyone, dead or living, believing that they hold the same attributes in a lesser degree than Allah. In Quran, Allah has called shirk, “ Zulumun Azeem ” which means the worst oppression or wrong. اِنَّ الشِّرۡكَ لَـظُلۡمٌ عَظِيۡمٌ “Verily, shirk is (a worst of sins) tremendous wrong.” (Surah Luqman : 13) .   بیشک شرک بڑا ظلم ہے ترجمہ: And Shirk is the only sin which is unforgiveable.
