LESSON OUTCOMES -have knowledge what is a cartoon and identify different types of cartoons - be able to identify the use of language use - know the use of the certain punctuation marks used -be able to describe the facial expression and body language in the cartoon. -leaners should be able to know the message of a certain cartoon
WHAT IS A CARTOON A cartoon is a piece of art, usually humorous in intent.
TYPES OF CARTOONS WITH FORMATION AND CHARACTER
Single frame cartoon
Comic strip – each block is a frame (this cartoon has 16 frames)
Political satire The use of humor to expose and criticize a person’s or community’s vices (immoral behavior) or stupidity The aim is to entertain and educate us about politics.
Editorial More serious Comments on something important happening at the moment The editorial cartoon usually reflects the topic written about in the Editorial Article in the newspaper
Most important aspects in the cartoon
Font size and bold scripts Font size and bold scripts they show that the cartoon is stressing their words or they are shouting and the use of these two elements at the same time they work along with exclamation mark. (!)
Use of punctuation marks and language
Facial expression and body language are key to the character’s thoughts, feelings and emotions
Message In editorial cartoons and political satire it is also important to discuss the intention of the cartoonist or the message.
