Techno-Pedagogue – concept, meaning and scope, Role of teacher as a techno-pedagogue.

Concept of techno-pedagogue Acquiring techno-pedagogical proficiency will make teaching and learning a pleasurable exercise as it would lessen the pressure on the teachers and enable the students to develop deeper domain of knowledge. The education system now witnessing a paradigm shift from the traditional chalk and board teaching methodology to digitalizing the pedagogical approach through technical devices. The technological Revolution has promoted a fundamental shift in our understanding of pedagogy and its related practices. Techno- pedagogy demands that life world experience be enmeshed in hyper learning.

Meaning of techno-pedagogue   Techno-Pedagogy means, positioning educational technologies as the basis of teaching learning process. It is an integration of information technology in the teaching and learning process. This is the hybrid method of teaching in which ICT is being used for teaching learning situation. Literally ‘pedagogy’ refers to the “science and art of teaching”. ‘Techno’ is derived from the Latin word ‘ texere ’, it means ‘weave’ or ‘merge’. Techno-pedagogy means tailoring teaching strategies in the learning environment itself. According to H.Cannors , “Electronically mediated courses that integrate sound pedagogic principles of teaching or learning with the use of technology”.

Need and scope of techno-pedagogy   Enhance linguistic abilities. Develop teaching learning process. Design multigrade instruction. Plan specific pedagogy. Improve study material. Support distance education through e-learning. Guided and counselling for carrier choices. Stimulate self learning ability.

Facilitating the acquisition of basic skills. Enhance teacher training. Active learning. Collaborative learning. Creative learning. Integrative learning. Evaluating learning. Development of life skill.

Role of teacher as a techno-pedagogue In education, teachers facilitate student learning. The objectives of learning is typically accomplished through either an informal or formal approach to learning, including a course of study and lesson plan that teachers skills, knowledge and thinking skills. Different ways to teach are often referred to as pedagogy. When deciding what teaching method to use teachers consider students background knowledge, environment and their learning goals as well as standardized curricula as determined by the relevant authority. Most of the teachers follows traditional ways of teaching.

The increasing use of technology, specifically the rise of the internet over the past decade, has begun to shape the way teachers approach their roles in the classroom. I t is important for teachers to have pedagogical skills and technological knowledge along with content knowledge. Teacher should act as a techno pedagogue in this present era of technology revolution. Technological pedagogical content knowledge helps the teachers by giving proper guidance on classroom teaching as a techno pedagogue.
