Technology In Education Essay
Crafting an essay on the intersection of technology and education presents a multifaceted
challenge. The task demands not only a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter but
also the ability to navigate through the intricate dynamics of both fields. Addressing the intricate
relationship between technology and education requires an in-depth exploration of various
facets, including historical contexts, current trends, and potential future developments.
The complexity lies in the need to strike a balance between the advantages and disadvantages of
technology in education. While technology offers innovative solutions to enhance learning
experiences, it also introduces challenges such as the digital divide and concerns about screen
time. Navigating through the vast array of technological tools and their implications on
pedagogy demands a keen analytical mind.
Furthermore, one must carefully structure the essay to provide a coherent narrative that guides
the reader through the evolution of technology in education. Balancing theoretical perspectives
with practical examples and case studies adds another layer of intricacy. This not only requires
meticulous research but also the ability to synthesize information in a way that is accessible to a
diverse audience.
Moreover, staying abreast of the latest developments in both technology and education is
essential. The rapid pace of technological innovation means that what was relevant yesterday
may be obsolete today. Integrating cutting-edge insights into the essay adds a layer of timeliness
and relevance, but it also makes the writing process an ongoing and dynamic endeavor.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of technology in education is no simple task. It
necessitates a deep understanding of the subject matter, the ability to critically analyze various
perspectives, and the skill to present complex ideas in a clear and engaging manner. However, the
challenge is not insurmountable, and with dedication and thorough research, one can navigate
through the complexities of this topic to create a compelling and informative piece.

Essay about Early Medieval Barbarians Sense of Ethnicity
Early Medieval Barbarians Sense of Ethnicity
There has always been, and will most likely continue to be, great debate as to what
we can or cant truly known about the Barbarians . To the peoples of ancient Greece,
and later, Rome, a barbarian was anyone who was not of their extraction or culture.
Because most of these strangers regularly practiced raids upon these civilizations, the
term barbarian gradually evolved into a perjorative term: a person who was sub
human, uncivilized, and regularly practiced the most vile and inhuman acts
imaginable . [1] In a good overall summary of the barbarians, it has been stated that
these Barbarians were a tall, fierce, fair haired and fair skinned ... Show more content

There has also been a vast array of archeological evidence that has been discovered
that may or may not give us more insight into the lives of the mysterious middle
aged warriors, however this type of evidence does not give historians solid facts, but
rather evidence upon which an opinion may be formed. It has been stated that the
only thing we can truly know about early medieval barbarians is their sense of
ethnicity .
The oxford English dictionary defines ethnicity as pertaining to race; peculiar to a
race or nation; ethnological. Also, pertaining to or having common racial, cultural,
religious, or linguistic characteristics, esp. designating a racial or other group within
a larger system; hence (U.S. colloq.), foreign, exotic .[3]
Research however has shown that the in some cases Barbarians did not have such an
extreme sense of ethnicity , or unique otherness , that has previously been suggested.
In today s age, our common preconception of somebody who is ethnic is more than
often a negative perception. There are many reasons for this, but the most common
explanation may simply lay with the fact that just because we may not understand
enough about a different groups culture or way of life, or we have different

Telling a true war story
Christian Peters 02/04/14 Telling a True War Story Assignment Vietnam was a
place like no other. It was swarmed with presence of stories, some strange, some
nefarious, and some just utterly incredible. But for those who think like me,
Vietnam, even in its times of horror and imperfections, can really bring out the very
true nature in someone. Like the way someone stands upon his feet after numerous
bumps and blows, like the grit that one shows after driven against the wall the true
character of one person is dictated and influenced by his or her environment and how
he or she chooses to deal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I also noticed how people like Rat Kiley could kill innocent water buffalos and
torture villagers. Yes, it is true that I kill animals too. But I do not kill innocent
creatures out of sheer fun or stupidity, I do it to survive. And I sure as h*ll would
never torture villagers who are only helping me by cleaning my gun. But listen.
Even that story is made up. I don t kill animals, nor live in the wilderness, nor do I
associate myself with monkeys. I want you to feel what I felt as I was present in
Alpha Company . Sometimes I felt like a monkey in a cage when I was in the
presence of that company; putting on a show for them by looking beautiful.
Sometimes I even felt as though living in the wilderness could alleviate my anger
towards that company. I also made up that story to highlight the reality of war
stories. Sometimes, in many war stories, it is difficult for the reader or listener to
separate what happened from what seemed to happen. What appeared to happen
could become its own story and therefore people begin to tell the story that way. A
true war story doesn t require a PHD to understand it. Here is what really happened
to me after I left the group of soldiers. I came across this old, meek, and innocent
looking lady. Her name is Thi Dung. But I call her Ong Dung out of respect. I told
her that the American soldiers who are here in Vietnam are good for nothing sly
devils. I also told

Depression And Depression In The Bell Jar By Sylvia Plath
Depression is like drowning in a pool of water and there is absolutely no escape
from it. In The Bell Jar, written by Sylvia Plath, the main character, Esther
Greenwood goes through the awful troubling depths of depression. The Bell Jar
goes back in time beginning in the summer of 1953 and follows the story of Esther
Greenwood. Esther should be having the time of her life having won an internship
in New York City, but the unfortunate truth is that she is slowly falling further into
a deep depression. Sylvia Plath strongly incorporates metaphors, internal conflict,
and symbolism to reveal the theme that despite the hardships and awful drowning
thoughts that plague people s mind, life does get better, if only people don t lose
hope. To begin with, Sylvia Plath successfully incorporates internal conflict to
reveal that Esther doesn t know what to do with herself after not getting accepted
into the writing program of her dreams, which is also when she starts falling into
her deep depression. According to author Kirsty Grocott, the illness is [Esther s]
reality and everything outside [Esther s] own head feels flimsy and unreal
(Grocott, Sylvia Plath s Bell Jar Still Haunts Me ). Esther feels unsure of what she
wants to do with her life. Esther saw her life as if it was a fig tree. She saw one fig
as a husband and a happy home and children, and another fig was a famous poet
and another fig was a brilliant professor (Plath Sylvia 77). Esther seems paralyzed
on what fig she wants to choose. It appears as if she wants all of them, but she
realizes that if she only chooses one she can t have the rest. Esther appears
bewildered because she doesn t know what life choice to make. The hardships that
Esther is enduring appears to be too much for her to handle. Secondly, Sylvia Plath
strongly utilizes a beating heart as a metaphor to disclose how Esther just can t
find the will to succumb to her depression. When decides to go to the beach on a
double date, the thought of drowning herself profoundly crossed her mind. As she
was swimming in the ocean she thought: that drowning must be the kindest way to
die...but as I paddled on, my heartbeat boomed like a dull motor in my ears, I am, I
am, I am (Plath 157 158). It

Sherry Turgle Analysis
Sherry Turkle We as a community and generation have become dependent on
technology. This is a controversial issue many find themselves on one side or the
other, although a gray area exists. Sherry Turkle, MIT professor, finds herself in this
gray area yet, she is more lenient to dismissing technology. She writes numerous
articles such as: The Second Self: Computers and the Human Spirit (1984) and Alone
Together (2011), in which she says technology, primarily cell phones, are problematic
to advancing culture. Turkle studied present technology for fifteen years, making her
quite knowledgeable on this subject. Turkle addresses technology in her essay The
Flight from Conversation, but has many pros and cons to her reasoning. Addressing

The two examples earlier mentioned, the boy and old lady, address our weird
connection to AI. A high school sophomore confides to me that he wishes he could
talk to an artificial intelligence program instead of his dad about dating; he says
the A.I. would have so much more in its database (51). The issue here is human
bias, which Turkle has plenty of. An AI, short for Artificial intelligence, would
have non biased information in its data. The boy s father, on the other hand, would
be lenient to choosing what he chose when he was in a relevant situation. An AI
could give probability of choices, where the dad would only have a wild guess.
Another example she uses is with an older woman. One of the most haunting
experiences during my research came when I brought one of these robots,
designed in the shape of a baby seal, to an elder care facility, and an older woman
began to talk to it about the loss of her child. The robot seemed to be looking into
her eyes. It seemed to be following the conversation. The woman was comforted
(51). In that situation, human bias would affect the woman s emotions negatively.
Humans are free to judge her on said topic, the seal was not programed to judge or
talk back. To keep emotions to oneself has a negative impact on one s mental

Essay on General Revelations of God
A question that has perplexed humans through the ages is if we have the ability to
reach God. The witness of Scripture and leading theologians attest that individuals
have a limited knowledge of God through general revelation in the natural world.
General revelation can provide valid knowledge that there is a God, which aids in the
acceptance of special revelation.
General revelation is an individual s ability to gain knowledge of God through his
presence in the world. The knowledge we are able to gain through general
revelation is limited. It doesn t bring salvation and tells very little about God s
character, but it can bring us knowledge of the existence of God. We are able to gain
this knowledge of him because he is a Creator ... Show more content on

Humans, unlike animals, have a sense of moral responsibility to do what is good
(Guthrie, 42). It is more than a subjective sense of what is right and wrong, it is a
understanding of justice and injustice. The presence of our conscience implies there
is a moral standard. If there is a moral standard, then the standard had to be set by
someone or something. An objective moral order is meaningless unless there is a
Divine Being (Trueblood, Philosophy of Religion, 114). Aesthetics is another place a
person can experience general revelation. Like our sense of morals, beauty is not
subjective. It is something we discover. For example, music is random sounds but
is based on scales. A musician has to learn about scales and chords before writing a
song. If beauty is not something we create, but something we discover then there
must be a set standard of what is beautiful. If there is a standard of beauty in the
world, then there must be a Creator of the world. It is through the various forms of
general revelation that individuals are able to learn certain aspects about the
character of God and the purpose of human life. We can see this in other belief
systems, theories, and ideas about life and the world that non Christians hold to that
are very similar to certain biblical teachings.
Without any reference to Jesus, the Bible, or the Christian church, many philosophers,
scientists, psychologists, artists, and followers of other
religions have

Nuclear Proliferation
Andrew Jackson s farewell address to the nation, he stated, We shall more certainly
preserve peace when it is well understood that we are prepared for war, (Political
Quotations #3719). The United States has always throughout history been a major
military power from the use of abnormal tactics during the Revolutionary War (1776)
to the use of its technology and advanced weapons in the Persian Gulf War (1991).
After World War II and the Cold War Era, the United States has been able to defend
its citizens from any form of a military attack from the sea, air, and the ground on the

Then during the Persian Gulf War the Patriot Missile System was used to shoot
down Iraq s SCUD missiles flying towards other nations. (Kitfield 119 121). The
system s history started in 1983 with Ronald Reagan s speech, but was only used
during the 1991 Persian Gulf War in a reduced in the form, of the Patriot Missile
system to defend nation of Israel.
The American people feel the system is unnecessary for the protection of the
mainland United States. The United States is currently unable of intercepting a
ballistic missile warhead once it has been deployed against the United States
(Freeman 37+). Along with these threats from the former Soviet Union States the
United States now has to worry about such Rogue nations like North Korea, Iran and
Iraq. During the 1990 s, some experts believed that it would take such rogue nations
at least a decade to develop intercontinental ballistic missiles capable of reaching the
continental United States. (Kitfield 111 112). Paul Freeman reported Most
Americans, however, believe that there is adequate capability of defend their
homeland against a ballistic missile attack. (37+). The American people do not
believe that these rogue nations have the capability to destroy American cities. The
threat is there the question is not there capably but their willingness to use nuclear or
chemical weapons against

A Comparison Of Frank Lloyd Wright And Frank OGehry
Two architects who works needs to be recognized too are Frank Lloyd Wright and
Frank O Gehry. Both great architects with creative designs that seem to incorporate
with their surroundings. Who contributed so much to our modern designs and
buildings that we still visit today. Both architects who came up with new ideas and
designs instead of the traditional like houses and buildings but added new concept to
what we see today. Frank Lloyd Wrightwas born in the year 1867, in Richland
Center, Wisconsin. Both an architect and writer, he is considered a genius of the
American architecture (Kaufmann 1). Wright went to the University of Wisconsin at
Madison for a few terms where he took engineering courses (Kaufmann 3). He
finally left Madison after a few years and found work with J.L. Silsbee, in
architectural detailing. After a few years he opened his own architectural practice.
One of his styles that became the residential design of the 20th century in the United
Stateswas the Prairie Style. The Prairie architecture was known for its revolutionary
approach to the building of modern homes. Wright built about 50 prairie houses in
ten years. Two of his major works that stand out is the Guggenheim Museum located
in New York and the Marin County government Centre located near San Francisco.
The Guggenheim Museum is a form of abstract art which has no separate floor
levels but uses a spiral ramp. This was his ideal of continuous space and most
significant building. His principles

Story Of The Migrant Mother Analysis
The iconic image for discussion is from the women named Florence Owens
Thompson. The image is this woman who is with her children in the Great
Depression era called the Migrant Mother taken by the photographer Dorothea Lange.
The Great Depression was a difficult time for people in the United States. The stock
market crash caused debt for many citizens, which caused them to struggle with their
bills. Thus, people lost their homes which caused them to be homeless. The Great
Depressionoccurred during the 1930 s a little before World War II. This war helped
carry the U.S. out of the struggle of the Great Depression. This image reflects a
strong message showing how troubling the Great Depression was. To decipher the
mysterious meaning of this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When looking at this image I personally cannot relate to the troubles Florence
Thompson went through because she was living during the Great Depression as a
single mother with her children. The image portrays more than just a woman, it
shows hope and resilience, which is probably why it is such an iconic image.
Comparing this image of the Great Depression to others of its time, Thompson s
gaze is serious and many describe her as beautiful in a motherly way. In reading
other people s point of views, the image of Thompson seems to be a mystery to all.
It must be the serious gaze she reflects while looking away from the camera. The
image should make many thankful not having to live during the Great Depression.
This was a time where many families became homeless, divorced, sick and fatalities
where at its high. The image of Thompson is a historic picture and for good reason.
This is because her image is still taught in today s classroom in American society as
a symbol of hope in desperate

Three Different Types Of Teachers
What is a teacher? A teacher is someone who provides education for students,
someone who delivers a message for the future generation and someone who is
willing to strive to help students expand their knowledge. However, not all teachers
are the same. The fact that each teacher has her own personality, style and interaction
with students makes the teachers come in three different types. The first type of
teachers, the strict teacher, is always undesirable with the students. The strict teacher
has an unpleasant face. She ll walk into the class without a smile on her face neither
a salute. Usually teachers would wait for students to come after class begins, she
doesn t. The strict teacher would let a studentgo back home and mark them... Show

The friendly teacher does always have a smile on her face. She ll come to class
greeting all the students. If you got late for the class about 10 minutes, she will
allow you to come to class. The friendly teacher always pushes her students to
participate during the lecture, she will try her best to make learning interesting as
well as creative. The friendly teacher would let you go to restrooms once during
the class. After having the break, she ll let you eat something if you didn t have
the time to. The friendly teacher would give you an assignment for each week, to
get enough time to do it. She is the right person to consult your problems with. For
instance, if you got a problem outside the class in any particular area of study she
will be very helpful. Moreover, she is considered to be a good listener, she will
find the right solution for any problem you have. The friendly teacher would let
you know about each quiz you re having before getting it, so you have the right
time to study for it. Even though the friendly teacher is a good teacher, you still
have to be active with her. She is a kind of a teacher who every student would want
to take with

also use their sense of smell to discriminate related and unrelated individuals and

Analysis Of The Generation Of Monsters
According to Jenny Strauss Clay, in their journal titled The Generation of Monsters
in Hesiod, there is a natural hierarchy of men and beasts (Clay 112). As with any
hierarchy, there are usually differences, or in this case distinguishing features of the
divine, the bestial, and the human, which instinctively place some creatures above
others (Clay 108). In the Greek and Roman myths that we read in class, this hierarchy
is clearly shown through the relationship between the gods and monsters. As written
in Theogony, all monsters derived from Gaia, however it is their appearances that set
them apart from the gods. Clay defines being monstrous as being an anomaly. From
birth, a monster does not fit into usual classifications, or... Show more content on

Thus, there are new standards for all beings.
Greek and Roman monsters are hybrid creatures that unite normally disparate
elements, like for example, the human and the bestial (Clay 106). It is their
distinctive qualities that make them discriminated against. Sometimes, they involve a
multiplication of human or animal features or they violate fundamental categories,
for instance, mortal/immortal, young/old, and male/female (Clay 106). One example
of this in the Aeneid is Cerberus. Once Aeneas and the Sibyl cross the river to get
into the underworld, they see this multi headed dog that guarding the gates. As
revealed in Theogony, Cerberus is also the offspring of two monsters, Echidna and
Typhon (Hesiod, Theogony, 310 315). Like Clay wrote, the gods would view those
who had multiples of the same feature as monsterous. Thus, it makes sense how in the
Aeneid, Cerberus is described as having three throats, an enormous bulk, and serpents
writh[ing] around his neck (Virgil, Aeneid, p. 198, 6.480 482). Because of this, the
gods are fine with using him as a guard. They are taking advantage of him so that
they don t have to deal with people trying to sneak out of the underworld. This is all
because, as a monster, their excessive power or distinguishing features inspires fear,
especially in those who rule . So Zeus is left neutralize the threat and then incorporate
them into his new order (Clay

Improving an Organization s Relations with the Zone of...
The zone of industrial/organizational psychology that deals with the selection and
evaluation of personnel, and other job aspects such as morale, satisfaction, and
relationships between managers and workers in the workplace. Personnel
psychology is a sub division of industrial psychology which deals with selection
and evaluation of personnel. It also looks into other job parts such as morale,
satisfaction, and relationships between managers and workers in the workplace.(
Bovee, 1992, p. 7) The main aim for it is to improve work competence and output
quality of the organization. Personal psychology refers to the application of
psychology in the hiring and caring of employees. (Bovee, 1992, p. 78) Psychology
is both an academic and applied field which deals with the study of human mind
and behaviour. It seeks to understand and even explain emotion, thought and
behaviour. Personnel means a body of persons employed in a place of work or
organisation or a group of people who work together in the same organisation are
referred to as personnel, and are willing to obey orders through the organisation which

management (Sehrebo, 2008, p. 38).Psychology is the scientific study of the human
mind and its mental characteristics or attitude of a person. Similarities between
personnel psychology and human resource The major relationship between these two
concepts stems from their overall goals. They all aim at

Scarface Heroism
The film Scarface was released in 1983 as a modern remake of the 1932 film of the
same name. Directed by Brian De Palma, It tells the story of Cuban refugee Tony
Montana and his rise to power through criminal action. Tony arrives in Miami
during the Mariel boat lift of 1980, already having been labeled a criminal he starts
doing favors before he even has his freedom in America. After his criminal heroics
are recognized by his boss, Tony has the ticket he needs to carve out his own empire
built on drugs and extortion. Eventually Tony becomes addicted to the very drugs he
sells and becomes too bold in his ways, prompting his demise in one of the most
famous gangster movie scenes ever. Scarfacehad many of the traditional elements of

In the same year Time Magazine offered its own take on Miami saying; If you stay
here, you arm yourself to the teeth, put bars on the windows and stay at home at all
times. (Aguirre 487) Only 2 years after this blow came Scarface, then Miami Vice
and so on. While obviously the Cuban refugees can not be blamed for the spike in
crime entirely, the American media certainly helped aid this notion into becoming
popular public opinion. While there are no concrete numbers on how many
criminals and other undesirables Castro had dumped on us, everyone with any
kind of voice in media offered their estimate. Depending on the publishers own bias
the number ranged from 7,500 to 40,000 (Aguirre 487) estimated criminals.
Perhaps the most well known and controversial estimates came during the opening
credits of Scarface. De Palma boldly states that 25,000 (Bregman) of the refugees
were criminals and other undesirables, a figure accounting for exactly 1 in 5 of the
refugees. While obviously Scarface was not the only vessel of this anti Cuban
propaganda, considering the medium the message was delivered through it was a
huge factor in public opinion. The character and actions of Tony Montana came to
represent the crime wave flooding Miami and the Cubans blamed for causing it.
Sadly enough while Scarface did support a negative image of the Cuban immigrants
of the time, it also portrayed an idea

Orion Magazine Based On Environmental Activism
Although Orion is a magazine based primarily on environmental activism, it also
often incorporates scientific thought and evidence. Sometimes the articles do roam
into the world of eco extremism, but I genuinely feel that by reading this website,
audiences lives are enriched by its content. The editors clearly care as much about the
message each issue sends as the authors of the pieces presented therein. The layout
provides the respect to the articles and photography that they deserve. Thus, the
website Orionprovides an effective translation of science by displaying inspiration
relating to travel, writing, and learning successfully to the intended audience of the
young or old adult.
The objective of Orion magazine is to not only providing valuable information to
numerous scientific related articles, but also to cultural concerns. I was able to
conclude that it is an extremely successful entertainment and educational site. The
design of the website is very bright and appealing to the eye. Its layout is inviting
and easy to navigate. When looking further into the magazine s design, one sees that
it is consistent with all the pages. There are many graphics including, photographs,
which eventually lead the reader into more personal topics. This attention grabbing
mechanism, essentially allows the audience to explore what they are interested in.
The articles are also placed in an orderly fashion and do not create a cluttered
appearance. The simplicity does not mean Orion is

How Self-Driving Cars Work
Driving a car safely requires complete attention of the driver in order to minimize
risk of accidents. With the fast pace and busy lives of people today, sometimes
risky choices are made, like texting or making calls while driving, even though it is
unsafe and against the law. Calling a taxi to drive you to your destination is a safer
alternative, but could be expensive over time. Imagine being able to safely and
affordably drive to your desired destination while eating breakfast, reviewing business
documents, and/or making phone calls en route. This vision is possible with self
drivingcars, but what consideration must be taken into account to make this a reality?

3]. The car is also equipped with a laser range finder which is used to scan more than
200 feet in all directions to generate a 3 dimentional map area around the car. This
helps the self driving car determine if it is on a road or heading towards the sidewalk.
Four small radars are located in the front bumper and rear bumper to aid in figuring
out the positions of far objects. In addition, the Google car has a camera which is
used to detect traffic lights and help figure out moving objects [Ref. 4]
As a safety precaution, self driving cars need to have some way for passengers to
manually override the autonomous driver and take control of the car in the event a
sensor fails or the car is malfunctioning.
Some Potential Problems and Solutions with Implementing Self Driving Cars
There are some major challenges in getting self driving cars on the road safely.
One problem that has been identified is having the car understand when traffic
signs are not working and a police officer is directing traffic. This has been
identified as very difficult [Ref. 5]. A possible solution is to have police officers
equipped with special transmitters that the car can recognize. This would prevent the
possibility of just anyone on the street making hand signs and controlling where your
car is going.
Another identified issue with self driving cars is that if the car

Biological Processes Through Light Regulation Essay
Photolabile nucleobase protection has been used to achieve exquisite control over
biological processes through light regulation, also referred as photocaging. The
concept was introduced by Engels (Engels and Schlaeger, 1977; Engels and
Reidys, 1978) and independently by Hofmann (Kaplan et al., 1978). Watson Crick
base pairing is blocked by caging groups, completely preventing oligonucleotide
duplex formation. Duplex formation is restored when irradiated by light at a specfic
wavelength. Photolabile groups when introduced at specific locations render the
molecule inactive; however, upon irradiation with light at a particular wavelength,
the molecules can be activated (See detailed review by Shao and Xing, 2010; Tang
et al. 2013; Liu and Deiters, 2014). Caging groups can also be introduced at
phosphate, 2в ЂІ OH, and nucleobases (Tang et al., 2013); however, nucleobase
caging has been of particular interest.
Oligonucleotides containing NVOC protecting groups were used as the
photocleavable protecting group at the N3 position of thymidine, and duplex
formation was achieved by photoradiation at 365 nm for 5 h (Iwase et al., 2003).
NPOM caged dT (X) introduced by the Deiters group is of particular interest. Figure
2.1.39 shows the synthesis of NPOM caged thymidine phsophoramidite S.62 (Lusic et
al. 2007) from nucleoside S.63 using reagent S.64, and DNA incorporating NPOM
caged thymdine was prepared by standard phosphoramidite chemistry and irradiated

The Gladiator Games Jeffrey Castro
Research Paper The Gladiator Games Jeffrey Castro
When you think about the Roman Empire and their culture, it is hard to not think
about the gladiator games. To the romans, the gladiator games were more than just a
sport. They were a huge part of their history and culture. In our modern times, there
are many misconceptions about the gladiator games and the gladiators themselves.
The gladiators are often thought of as either slaves being forced to fight to the
death or as blood crazed barbarians who just want to kill people. Hollywood and
other unreliable sources can be blamed for portraying the gladiators to be as such,
when in reality, the gladiators were mostly highly trained warriors, who fought with
honor, and did not always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the games started growing in fame in popularity they had to increase the space of
where they would fight into larger and more permanent locations. This marked the
beginning of construction of various arenas and amphitheaters. The arenas were
huge, some holding up to 20,000 people. The biggest and most famous of the
building built for the gladiators is the Coliseum. The Coliseum would hold anywhere
from 40,000 to 60000 attendants, trumping the 20000 seat amphitheaters. It was also
made out of stone other than wood which made it more durable compared to other
amphitheaters. The Coliseum still stands in Rome and is one of the main attractions of
the city, showing what a big impact the gladiators had on roman history.
Not all of the gladiators were slaves or criminals. When the games first originated,
most of the combatants were indeed slaves and criminals but the demographic
started changing towards the beginning of 1st century AD. At the end of the
republic, around 27 BC, freed men constituted for about half of the number of
gladiators. There is even evidence that supports that there were even female
gladiators. The women that participated were mostly high class women who did it
for attention, excitement and the trills that gladiatorial combat has to offer. The
gladiators would become celebrities and sex symbols to the lower class romans to
the point that kids played with clay action figures of them and they would even be in
endorsements like modern day

Of What Remains By Alicia Jurman Summary
Of What Remains
From the ashes of hate, a story of acceptance was born. Alicia Jurman was nine
years old when the Russians invaded her town of Buczacz, Poland. The German
Nazis followed almost immediately after. As a young Jewish girl, Alicia feared for
her life on a daily basis. Alicia survived the German invasion and Holocaust,
however, she lost everything that she previously needed to survive. Alicia Jurman
wrote Alicia in 1982 in memory of the children of the ghettos who were cruelly
murdered by the Nazis and their collaborators. The novel is the manifestation of her
concession that what she lost to the war will never come back. Alicia tells the
courageous story of a girl looking for herself and love during the mass extinction of
humanity and identity.
The Russians invaded Buczacz on September 17, 1939. The Germans invaded in
1941. Alicia lost her father, her mother, and her four brothers: Zachary, Bunio,

With little money, a five bedroom apartment, and a strong connection to the Russians,
Alicia built an orphanage and business that outlasted the war. Unfortunately the end
of the war did not guarantee the freedoms and safety of the remaining Jews in Eastern
Europe. An organization named the Brecha, centered in Lodz, Poland, was
responsible for smuggling Jews out of Russian occupied areas such as Latvia,
Poland, Czechoslovakia, and Hungary. The Jews were led to western Europe, where
they travelled by boat to Israel. Alicia had realized by this point that she wanted to
go to Israel, to the land of her people: that is where she belonged now. The Brecha
asked Alicia to be a group leader, transporting Jews from Eastern Europe to Israel.
Her age did not reflect her strength and experience. Alicia agreed to join despite the

Children In North Korea Essay
Kindergarten. The age of innocence where we learn and sing the alphabet.
Children all over the world learn their ABC s and nursery rhymes well almost
everybody. In North Korea, children as early as Kindergarten are being
brainwashed with information about the North Korean leader, Kim Jong Il. The so
called genuine faith in their leadership is not just from being brainwashed but also
from fear of the government. During an interview with Jeon Geum ju by Anna
Fifield from The Washington Post, she recalls her time during her elementary years

One night while he was in the Army, he took a train to the river, where he swam to
China. Comparing North Korea to China, he realized that they had been brainwashed.
When describing his education, he said that 30 percent of their studies was about the
leader and 20 percent was about the enemy aka people who were living in paradise
because they had money and land. He recalls many time when people would be
sent to prison because of saying a wrong word. A common saying, there is an ear,
even on the wall If the people know that there is a punishment by the government
for their wrongful actions, they most likely will not commit that act as a common
saying amongst the people was there is an ear, even on the wall. Because of this
fear and the brainwashing at a young age, it is common sense for North Koreans to
have genuine faith in the great leader. Some people might say that it s not fear or
brainwashing rather that the brainwashing is just North Korea s unique way of
teaching. Brainwashing no matter the country should not occur. Yes, they should
learn about their leader, but it should not be forced upon them and take up almost
the majority of what they learn let alone at such a young age. One might say it s fear
and not brainwashing but in order to have fear, you have to have some brainwashing

What Is The Psychological Criticism Of Black Swan
Psychoanalytical criticism intends to illustrate how literary works are often shaped
and constructed by an intricate system of natural human emotion in particular those
of desire. Lacan, who was heavily influenced by Sigmund Freud, re thought various
elements that were essential to Freudian theory and emerged with his own ideas
and terms to decipher psychiatric phenomena. One of these theories is that of the

Factory Workers In The Late 1800s
In the first nineteenth century, the class system is defined by people s
background. People in the upper class like aristocrat did not have to work, and
their income was from inherited land and investment. People in the middle class s
salary was paid monthly, and most of them worked on the decent work such as
bankers, ship owners, doctors, and teachers. Physical labour, carpenter and sailor
belong to the working class and these humble occupation s salary paid daily or
weekly wages. In other words, these occupations are not steady. It was unfortunately
for people in the underclass, most of them were beggars, thieves and criminals and
did not have work.
Also, a group of people in the working class is child labour. The situation of children
was not good: Children under 6 years old worked for a long time and they worked in
very dangerous environments. In 1833, the government enacted the Factory Act. In
this law, it required that no child worker under 9, employers had to have certificate,
no work at night, limited the working time foe children, inspectors to enforce the
law and so on (The Factory Act, 1833). However, According to Reports of
Inspectors of Factories 1863, inspectors had to enforce the law, otherwise they would
receive penalty. But data showed that the penalty was less than their salary, so to
work quickly, they were still not abidance the law. A Factory Inspector (1836)

The Beautiful And Damned, By F. Scott Fitzgerald
Beautiful things grow to a certain height and then they fail and fade off, breathing
out memories as they decay (137). Beauty and youth are often held at high regard,
people will go to any length to keep themselves young and beautiful. However,
sometimes the striving to stay youthful and attractive is what causes the people to
lose and waste what they previously had. This is the case in The Beautiful and
Damned, Anthony and Gloria Patch are obsessed with the ideas of youth, beauty, and
money. They desire only beautiful things and a beautiful lifestyle, however, they must

Anthony found that his life was lacking meaning, and decided to fill the void with
a woman, Gloria Gilbert. Gloria was a girl who made a living directly on her
prettiness (32). Gloria, like Anthony, grew up rich and desires to keep the same
lifestyle into her adult years. Like Anthony, Gloria is driven by the dream to retain
her beauty, but also feels the need for more meaning. Gloria fits the typical female
stereotype for Fitzgerald s novels, the beautiful and alluring flapper girl who has the
ability to put the serenity of his [Anthony s] life in jeopardy (Perosa). Gloria tries to
add meaning to her life through her marriage to Anthony. However, the relationship
between them was not healthy. Gloria understands the idea of how a woman is
thought to behave, and disagrees with it. She knows Anthony views women in the
world s most contemptuous sense, breeders and bearers (87) and she does not want to
become that herself. Also, she holds her beauty in such a high regard that she would
much rather retain her physical beauty than to go through having a child.
Anthony and Gloria Patch each begin the book as characters with whom readers can
relate. They both possess traditional characteristics that transcend any time period.

Theme Of Forgiveness In The Kite Runner
Some Title I ll Have To Come Up With Later
Forgiveness and redemption make up considerable parts of our lives, as we all
make mistakes. For some of these mistakes, we need to atone ourselves, and gain
forgiveness of either ourselves or another individual. Many times, we make big
decisions based receiving forgiveness on the past mistakes we have made. This theme
of forgiveness and atonement is also conveyed in the Kite Runner written by Khaled
Hosseini. Forgiveness and atonement is a significant theme throughout the Kite
Runner because it causes many of the major events in the story, which is illustrated
when characters do certain actions or make decisions driven by the possibility of
atonement or forgiveness.
The theme of forgiveness is shown from the very beginning of the story, when
Amir tries to gain the respect and love for his father. Baba is characterized as a
strong, righteous, and respected character, where Amir is portrayed as the exact
opposite. Baba, as a result seems to be disappointed in Amir for this, and seems not
to regard Amir very highly in his interactions with him. Amir as a result wanted
Baba all to [himself]. And besides, one time at Gharga Lake, Hassan and [him were]
skimming stones and Hassan made his stone skip eight times. The most [he]
managed was five. Baba was there, watching, and he patted Hassan on the back. Even
put his arm around his shoulder. This quote sets the stage for the novel, and reveals
how he feels inferior to Hassan. Throughout

How Did Icarus Change Ovid s Life

not high in the sky, bold and arrogant enough at the success of his career, which
causes him to take risks. The Partridge enjoys a steady life, living the middle way.
After Ovid s poem and a mistake , which he told his readers himself was the reason
that he was exiled, he lived a relatively average life. He was miserable enough at
first in his prison, but not because he lived in poverty, the bottom ground. He lived a
relatively comfortable life, treated extremely well by inhabitants of Tomis, and as
stated by Kenney, there are hints in the later poems that Ovid was even becoming
reconciled to his fate when death released him. Ovid continued to write the poetry he
so dearly loved, but they never reached the grand heights of his earlier successes.
They attracted less attention, and made no bold statements anyone might find

Career And Technical Education Programs

Holland (2013) notes that, Despite stubbornly high unemployment, many employers

applicants inadequate communication skills.
As Holland points out, the need for skilled workers is extensive. In a time when
unemployment rates are high there are plenty of people willing to work, but because
of a shortage in literacy skills and experience, there are not many people able to
work in these positions. Students who participate in CTE programs may be more
prepared to enter the workforce because of the hands on experience they receive in
the classroom and through co curricular programs such as DECA or FFA.
In addition to not having experience, students are not employable because of their
lack of communication skills. Students who are not literate are not able to
communicate in writing with clients, coworkers, or a supervisor. An inability to
express oneself effectively and coherently will render an individual unemployable.

An Explication Of Langston Hughes Mother To Son
An Explication of Langston Hughes Mother to Son Langston Hughes once stated
in his own words that his whole purpose for writing was, to explain and illuminate
the Negro condition in America. In the poem Mother to Son , he denotes his belief
on racism in America. In Mother to Son , a mother is giving advice to her son
about life from her perspective and experiences. She wants her son to keep striving
on what he believes and to have a more prosperous life than what she had.
Langston Hughes was born in Joplin, Missouri in 1902. He lived with his
grandmother for most of her life but often stayed with his mother in Cleveland,
Ohio. He grew up in poverty and was exposed to racism in his youth. However, he
believed that things would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was also during a time when Congress had passed several laws to protect
Negroes civil rights. In contrast, many whites disregarded the newly won rights of
Negroes. (World Book Encyclopedia. Civil Rights. Field Enterprises Educational
Corporation. Chicago. 1977. P.468) Like many other Lyrics, Mother to Son , is
expressing the thoughts and feelings of a single speaker and is written in first
person point of view. In the very first line, Well, son, I ll tell you , Hughes
demonstrates to the reader that this is going to be a first person point of view.
Readers can see that the mother is the central character in this poem because the
reader is focused on her next word as she describes her view of life. The mother
speaks her thoughts and feelings for the entirety of the poem but the boy doesn t
speak at all. This is called a dramatic monologue.
Langston s attitude toward life in Mother to Son is slightly unpleasant but solemn and
trustworthy. The reader gains a sense of sympathy for the mother as she tells her son
about her misfortunes from the past.
In Mother to Son , a mother is urging her son to keep striving with assurance to have
a more prosperous life than she had.
Langston Hughes was born in Joplin, Missouri in 1902. He was a well known poet
during the Harlem Renaissance. He believed strongly in his culture and he had faith
that things would change for the better.
The title itself gives the reader a sense of

Textual Analysis Of Hate Speech
Discursive practices were evident in this article as ideologies were discussed
(Schroder, 2012:115), for example minority and majority groups were analysed
according to the comments of hate speech as people in Slovenia write hate speech
towards editors or political groups that they don t agree with and to influence
political participation (Erjavec KovaД ЌiДЌ, 2012:917). This emphasises the fact that
with the use of discursive practices and discourse analysis one can gain insight about
a particular issue and construct opinions regarding the use of hate speech (Schroder,
2012:115). With the help of critical discourse analysis the author was able to find the
reasons and values behind hate speech. This influences the argument stating that the

This is evident as four strategies regarding hate speech which came about from the
critical discourse analysis of the comments were analysed. The first strategy is known
as the rearticulation of the meaning of news items and so they change the meaning
and refer to politics and nationality. The second strategy is the rearticulation of
domestic political topics, the third strategy is the rearticulation of events and
situations and the fourth strategy is the attack on certain celebrities opinions (Erjavec
KovaД ЌiДЌ, 2012:907 908). This emphasises the effectiveness of the analysis of
text and how important it is to deeply analyse the posts and identify the meanings
behind them. These strategies influence the author s arguments stating that most of
hate speech is directed towards an opposite side and that all hate speech is based on
political issues (Erjavec KovaД ЌiДЌ,

Impressionism And Its Influence On Art
Impressionism began in 1860 s in Paris when a group of artists refused to paint in
the realistic style of their day. These originators were rejected by the art society
and denied to show their work in exhibitions or salons. Impressionists did not use
the fine details in trying to paint an accurate replica of what they saw instead they
painted what their brains saw as the overall impression of a particular scene. Rivers
were no longer one whole body of blue and green, instead they became a myriad of
colors intertwined to give an overall impression of a river. Impressionismcan be
considered the first distinctly modern movement in art because of the way that it
turned away from the modern art convention of the time that focused on the fine line
details and instead centered on the sensory effect of the scene, the impression objects
made on the eye in a fleeting instant. This style of painting was best captured in the
outdoors, thus the artists moved from the studio to the streets and countryside,
painting en plein air (www.theartstory.org/movement impressionism.htm). There are
no lines in nature, only areas of color, one against another. Г‰douard Manet Another
aspect that made Impressionism revolutionary is that it broke with the traditional
salon style of painting by attempting to capture a moment in time as experienced by
the viewer. The way the light hit the water, the shadows at that time of day, would
never be repeated. The salon style was more pictorial of

What Is A Synagogue
The biblical term for holiness is kodesb. The way to holiness, in other words, was for
Israelites, individually and collectively, to emulate God s attributes. The same
interaction is evident in the commandment to sanctify the Sabbath, with God and the
Israelite people acting in tandem to realize the holiness of this occasion. Godshows
the way and Israel follows. Synagogue is a holy place dedicated to the glory of
God. If prayers are to ascend to heaven, the synagogue must reflect sanctity and
humility. God has chosen Israel, both land and people, to be witnesses and a testing
ground for God to reveal His holiness in the world and through them the ultimate
purpose of creation should be unveiled and clarified.
Land of Israel allows the earth

Who Is The Bottom Line Of Business Is Profit And Profit...
Running Head: IS IT TRUE THE BOTTOM LINE OF BUSINESS
Is It True That The Bottom Line Of Business Is Profit and Profit Alone?

Abstract
This will be an over view of ethics as it relates to business in our society. Concepts
from Philosophy will seek to describe the correlation between actions that are
classified as morally right or ethical in our dealings with each other as human
beings. Clear and concise examples will be given as well as ways in which to
improve upon business ethics.
Can business thrive by profit alone? Barry (2000) described Milton Friedman s
short essay, in the 1970 s, as extremely controversial, in which he denied that
corporate executives had any moral duty to relax the conditions of profit
maximization on behalf of the wider interests of society. This example of the bottom
line of business has been demonstrated within the past couple of decades by publicly
criticized companies, for fraudulent activities, such as, Enron, WorldCom, and
HealthSouth along with many others. These company executives were willing to
sacrifice the vast majority and greater good of society for profit gains. This mindset
left many of loyal investors, consumers and employees without a sound stabilized
future. There are also many businesses that produce a high yield on their investments;

Death Schone Magelone By Ludwig Tieck
Sind es Schumerzen, sind es Freuden ( are they sorrows or are they joys ) is a song
from Brahms song cycle Romanzen aus L. Tieck s Magelone, Op. 33 No. 3. As
text for his song cycle, Brahms chose excerpts from the novel Die schöne
Magelone by Ludwig Tieck (1773 1853). The novel tells a love story between Peter
von Provence and Magelone, the king s daughter. In this particular song, Peter and
Magelone falls in love with each other. Though Brahms is most widely known as an
instrumental composer, more than half of his opus numbers are devoted to vocal
works. In Brahms song cycles, he avoided the traditional strophic forms. Instead, he
chooses dramatic shifts in music material, unpredictable harmonies, and sudden
changes in tempoand rhythm.
The song starts with an unusually long piano introduction that lasted 8 measures,
gives an idea of the large scale of this song. The rolled chords (mm.1 8) and broken
octaves underneath the beautiful melody suggesting Peter s lute. The vocal line
begins with the expressive melody identical to the beginning of the piano
introduction. It is characterized by embellishments on words sind (to be), busen
(bosom) and wГ јnsche (desire). Emphasizing Peter yearning for Magelone s love.
The second stanza is set to the same music as the first stanza, and Brahms even
indicates this with a repeat sign rather than notating the music twice. The harmony of
the verse ends on a half cadence but the chords at the last measure are not rolled,
