THE BELIEFS OF THE PHILOSOPHY EDUCATION IN SINGAPORE

DID U KNOW THAT SINGAPORE CURRICULUM PHILOSOPHY IS GREATLY IMPORTANT TO ALL THE STUDENTS, TEACHERS AND THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION ITSELF ?

Beliefs in Singapore curriculum philosophy is intend to: To place every student at the heart of our education decision. To guide the teachers and authorities to design and implement their curriculum. To transform every students to be an engaged learners. To describe teachers and students’ roles in the process of teaching and learning.

WHAT SINGAPORE BELIEVE ABOUT TEACHING AND LEARNING? We believe in holistic education, centred on values, social and emotional well-being and character development. The learning process is of whole coverage which means it is not only focused in the the syllabus learning. It also covers the learning across the curriculum which emcompasses the soft skill and the hard skill. The soft skill is the communication skill and the hardskill is the other skills like can speak in many language and possess several other skills like drawing and calculating numbers. Character development also important as it can cultivate a polite manner within the students themselves.

2. We believe that learning flourishes in a caring and safe environment For your information, Singapore is very strict with the governing rule. If there are any education personnel is crossing the boundary of what it means in education, they will be severely punished by the law enforced in Singapore. For example, when the teacher is get caught of swindling the book funds costing about a few thousands, she is apprehended swiftly by the police officer. Learning can be good in caring environment as the teachers there are all soft, kind and gentle towards students. They are not allowed to use any form of violation towards their students.

3. We value every child as an individual . Every child has different abilities when it comes to learning skills. For learning to be effective, teachers have to cope with the teaching pace, approaches and assessment practices to be developmentally appropriate. Each children has their own learning needs, thus teacher cannot teach too fast. Teacher need to know every students need. For example, when they are autistic students in the school, the teacher need to spare extra time with the students in order for the students to catch up with the syllabus.

4. We believe in developing thinking skills in our learners. Teacher responsibilities is to construct, interpret and evaluate knowledge from different perspectives. For example, students are given projects to do by their teacher. The project is to act out a film like “Crazy Rich Asian” and they are given a scene to investigate. They need to become the investigator. From here, they can learn a lot apart from the theory in the books. They have learnt the practical skills in the real life of becoming cinematographer and detective.
