Curriculum: a
dynamic
process
•to create a process where faculty can
adequately and speedily assure that
students are learning what our
evidence indicates they should learn.
6
Purpose of
curricular
change
Categories of curricular change
Substitution
•The current curriculum will be replaced or substituted by
a new one. Sometimes, we call this a complete overhaul.
Alteration
•There is a minor change to the current or existing
curriculum
Restructuring
•Building a new structure would mean major change or
modificationin the school system, degree program or
educational system.
Perturbations
•These are changes that are disruptive, but teachers have
to adjust to them within a fairly short time
Value orientation
•It responds to a shift in the emphasis that the teacher
provides which are not within the mission or vision or
vice versa.

Curriculum
implementation
Learner
at the center
of curriculum
•Primary stakeholders
•Make the curriculum alive
•A fit between the planned, taught
curriculum and the characteristics of
the learner will guarantee success in
education.
18
Teacher
from
curriculum developer
to implementer
19
•Planning and writing the curriculum are the
primary roles of the teacher.
•A teacher is a curriculum maker.
•He/she writes curriculum daily through a lesson
plan, unit plan or yearly plan
Teacher
from
curriculum developer
to implementer
20
•Teachers are empowered to develop their own
school curricula taking into consideration their
own expertise, the context of the school and the
abilities of the learners.
•The teacher designs, enriches and modifies the
curriculum to suit the learner’s characteristics.
–The teacher addressesthe institutional goals,
societal needs and learner’s interests by creating
examples/experiences from where the students
can learn.
Teacher
from
curriculum developer
to implementer
21
•A developed curriculum remains inactive, if it is
not implemented. At this point, teachers’ role
shifts from a developer to an implementer.
–Study guides, timetables
–module coordinators
–Evaluate the course
Teachers are the most
crucial persons in the
implementation of a
curriculum
22
•Teachers shape the curriculum by
sharing their experiences and the
resources they are capable of
imparting to the learners and
provide a basis for changing
curriculum.
Implementation
23
Evaluation
24
Factors which make
implementation of
the new curriculum a
challenge
25
The shortageof teaching and
learning resources
Lack of in-service training on new
curriculum to teachers, management
staff and staff development methods
•Lack of support from the
management
26
The quality and quantity of the teachers
Workload and method of teaching of
teachers
Teacher and student readiness to accept
the teaching approaches on new curriculum
Poor cooperation and coordination among
departments
Diseases of
curriculum
Time passes
and problems
start arising
•various disciplines
–Major
–minor
•Definite proportion of the content of each
discipline
•Year-wise division of content of respective
departments
•Harmony among various disciplines on content,
sequence, coordination& communication,
•Better understanding with management
•students feedback
•Contribution , cooperation of all disciplines
involved in the development of the curriculum
